I may actually try and go to this if I am feeling brave.

And me

AgentProvocateur · 11/01/2018 22:28

Yes, count me in, too, please.

Seeing and camomile

I'm super keen to meet up again soon too for a chance to chat irl (that's not on a cold Glasgow street in January) but also to plan how we can take action.

As you say I'm not sure how easy it is to arrange things as a group through PMs.

I'm not a FB user and don't really want to be either (yes, I am a member of the awkward squad!)

Ereshkigal · 11/01/2018 22:22

They're scared of "violent" photographers exposing their faces when they might kick off. As at speakers corner.

Seeingadistance · 11/01/2018 22:17

53rdWay, yes, I saw that photo too and thought, well, thought lots of things but one was that we didn't hide our faces, but they did! We didn't hide our faces, but their actions last night and at similar events in the past, meant that we couldn't talk freely about arranging to meet, and the issue of people not wanting to be seen on the TV footage was also raised by the organiser last night. We are reduced to sneaking about, looking over our shoulder, doubting who we meet, because of them and they don't even show their faces!

Grin

I really should stir myself and learn how to work Twitter. I do have naturally low blood pressure, but even so, it might be more than I can bear.

53rdWay · 11/01/2018 22:13

surely the "potentially dangerous" reference means they were planning to kick off themselves?

Hoping not. But I've seen a photo of them protesting outside Central (on Twitter earlier) and they all seemed to have scarves hiding their faces. Hard not to read that as threatening, really.

cromeyellow0 · 11/01/2018 22:09

I was sorely tempted to tweet "Bros before hoes, right pal!" (cf. Ereshkigal) but instead I asked a version of your question, Seeingadistance.

Seeingadistance · 11/01/2018 22:08

I do think we should all meet, and soon, but we can't organise it on this thread. I've just sent a message to Plectrum who was messaging people before the meeting to see how best we can communicate with each other. I don't know if she was able to set up a group here or if she had to pm everyone individually, which is a bit of a hassle.

I'm also conscious that there are things I would like to say here, but don't, because it's a public space. And Scotland is a small country, so people know people who know people.

Snowdrop18 · 11/01/2018 22:03

I haven't heard anything about this on the news so thank you for updates

camomileteadrinker · 11/01/2018 21:56

Hello! Yes Lovely to meet
! I would definitely like to talk more than on
a cold street under stress!! We really should be brave enough to take a chance on building some connections and relationships, otherwise I do not see how we can oppose this or if the worst comes, support each other through the new legislation. And I want to stop this, it has already gone too far! PS I hated being manipulated by ITV and dread to see what they do to us all. I find it odd that no activists ever entered a meeting until last night and low and behold a film crew - too convenient.

Ereshkigal · 11/01/2018 21:53

"I support men, not women"

Seeingadistance · 11/01/2018 21:44

Hi, camomiletreedrinker! I think we met outside the Central Hotel last night - being angry and ranty!

Seeingadistance · 11/01/2018 21:41

Are you tweeting him, cromeyellow0?

If so, could you ask him why he supports the intimidation and harassment of women when they meet to discuss proposed legislation which the Parliament he is elected to is holding a consultation? Why is he seeking to suppress one particular point of view and prevent that perspective being expressed in that public consultation?

gunsandbanjos · 11/01/2018 21:40

Quite the smart one is Ross by the sounds of it. I despair.

Redonionricedpotato · 11/01/2018 21:35

Seriously crone???

cromeyellow0 · 11/01/2018 21:31

Response from @Ross_Greer:

I support trans people, not transphobes.

camomileteadrinker · 11/01/2018 21:21

I am a new Mumsnet user having spoken to a few of you last night, finally worked out how to change my user name! I'm still feeling very overwhelmed by the meeting. I can hardly settle to stuff today. I really was glad to meet the women I met last night, Terry, Itsallgoingtobefine et al, and to have a connection. It felt like a dam bursting. I feel that the bravest thing to do is connect. The biggest thing they have over us is fear of exposure, but ultimately there is more at stake than this, if they have us so scared to introduce ourselves, so scared to meet then how is this going to go on? What human rights will remain if this continues? How many minority issues need we be divided by and suffocated by? This is surely the time to be strong enough to take a chance and arrange a meeting? I was thinking somewhere like the CCA, maybe a Saturday afternoon? I will be there if others want to!?

AgentProvocateur · 11/01/2018 20:47

Ha! I can’t remembef enough of my sign-in details to name change.

Is he a list msp? I have a horrible feeling he might be mine. I wonder what Patrick Harvie’s views are.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 19:34

Nah it's ok. Agent might like it though!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/01/2018 19:24

Ereshkigal. Membership of a closed group of that particular FB is pretty damning on its own, I'd say.

Ok fair enough. I don't know the group.
