New guidelines:

Sorry I’m not sure how to do a clicky link.

I haven’t read through it properly yet but will do now. Just posting as I’m sure others will be interested.

Has anyone contacted their LA about these? If so, any response?

LangCleg · 15/02/2018 11:12

Welcome from me too, Oldman. Stick around!

OldmanOfTheWeb · 15/02/2018 11:10

Thanks, Flamingowings. Good to hear!

And no, I believe in universal equal rights and the wellbeing of children above all.

Transgender advocates are trying to create a new class of males that cannot be refused by the lower classes. I wonder how long the other children will put up with it.

OvaHere · 14/02/2018 20:42

That sounds more realistic. Still great! Grin

OldmanOfTheWeb · 14/02/2018 20:18

Ah, sorry. It's one a minute. Which is still amazing. Just not insane.

Don't know how I managed to type that and there doesn't seem to be an edit. No option but to own up to being a klutz, I guess! My bad!

OvaHere · 14/02/2018 19:40

That could just be TRAs trying to bring the site down

I didn't think of that Sad

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/02/2018 19:36

OvaHere · 14/02/2018 19:31

The producers have reported that it's hitting 1,000 downloads per minute so that's good news.

Wow that's amazing!

OldmanOfTheWeb · 14/02/2018 19:29

Thanks. I am a delicate male - I shall try to hang on. Grin

I missed that link. I'll go over to that thread then. I have been debating this mainly on Twitter and a pack has now formed and is working itself into a frenzy at this document. The producers have reported that it's hitting 1,000 downloads per minute so that's good news. :)

terryleather · 14/02/2018 18:58

I really want to write to the equalities commission about this but I find it so difficult not to rant, I had the same problem filling out the GRA consultation...

OvaHere · 14/02/2018 18:49

Welcome Oldman

Yes you can post here, we have a few men that stick around. Be warned though the conversation in these parts can be quite robust. But I'm sure you realised that Grin

There is a thread running on the transgender trend guidance if you want to join

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3166853-Transgender-Trends-new-resource-pack-for-schools

Many of us share similar concerns about guidance in schools that has been prepared by Mermaids and GIRES.

OldmanOfTheWeb · 14/02/2018 18:35

Ah, in for a penny in for a pound. One more thing...

I imagine most of my concerns with the Trans Youth guidance have been picked apart by others so I'll skip the full list. But I took the time to look into some of the research they use for it (didn't take long - there's hardly any). The page full of stats showing parental support helping children gets all its figures from a PRELIMINARY results in Canada that used a small sample size and for which the base data is not available. Also, the institute doing it is the "Trans Pulse Project", I'll leave it to the intelligent people of Mumsnet to conclude whether there could be bias at work or not.

Of course parents should be supportive of their children and of course that helps them. But the Scottish Trans guidelines just present some dubious figures as fact to imply if you don't whole-heartedly support your child AS a trans, you're harming them. There's nothing about questioning it or whether parental encouragement could harm the child long-term. Combined with the way they advise schools to actively promote trans identity with posters and celebrities to actually encourage children to identify as trans, I think it's downright dangerous to kids.

OldmanOfTheWeb · 14/02/2018 18:27

Hi. New member! I'm not even sure if men are allowed - I might get chased off! (Benny Hill style if so, please!) :)

I saw this topic and figured this would be interesting to you all. A group called Transgender Trend have published their own Information Pack for Schools. Forgive me if this has been linked - it's rather a long thread.

www.transgendertrend.com/transgender-schools-guidance/

The Scottish "Trans Youth" guidance is frankly dangerous to my mind. This is a much more neutral document and actually discusses things like desistance (changing your mind about being trans) and the effect of trans policies on other pupils. Also, unlike the "Scottish Trans" one, its advice to schools dealing with concerned parents isn't to just tell them they're bigots who should suck it up. Schools really need advice on the trans movement and can't just ignore it. I really recommend sharing this with them if you can. It's much better researched and much less ideological.

It's sadly already being attacked by the usual suspects because it dares to say things like gender non-conformity isn't the same thing as being trans and that putting boys in a girls sporting event can negatively affect the girls' safety and enjoyment.

I'll leave it there. Probably enough words from a newbie. But I hope it's of interest and I believe strongly this should get wide attention in schools. I hope it's of interest.

loopsdefruit · 14/11/2017 00:55

It's not really Christians though, just the super conservative 'Christians' that seem to ignore The Church and The Bible on inclusivity. The Church of England has published guidance for faith schools on supporting LGBT+ children and young people, and identifying, challenging, and preventing homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying. So, thankfully, things are moving in the right direction across most areas of society.

doctorcuntybollocks · 13/11/2017 23:36

Philip Schofield should have stayed in the broom cupboard with Gordon the Gopher. He doesn't seem to have a functioning mind.

Datun · 13/11/2017 23:31

They seem to favour Christians who object, rather than feminists, on that programme.

I’m not sure Philip Schofield can get his head around Identity politics, to be honest.

SisterMoonshine · 13/11/2017 23:22

Oh that This Morning clip Shock
That's a few times now (both sides of the Atlantic) that it's the voice of Christians opposing the ideology. Too easy to poo poo their thoughts as bigotry.
It would have been good to have had someone who could have shown Philip and Holly without Jesus being brought into it.
That Philip Schofield is so smug!

dinosaursandtea · 13/11/2017 21:49

I’ve read the whole thing and I’m really pleased by it. Realise in the minority here, but I think it’s a huge step in the right direction.

Tinycitrus · 13/11/2017 21:45

Did you see the interview on This Morning with the teacher who might lose his job fur misgendering pupil?

here

VerticalBlinds · 11/11/2017 21:20

"Part of the guidance refers to binders causing shortness of breath"

Yes that bit jumped out at me as well.

When I was a girl, it was common for girls to starve themselves and wear baggy clothes to try and hold development back, and stop the attention from men that suddenly starts. And it doesn't need to be a criminal thing - just the way men look at you changes and it's unsettling.

Binding breasts is a new solution to an old problem. In some countries they iron them. How is it that binding is new and progressive? It doesn't sound it to me. May cause shortness of breath Sad I mean we look back with horror at corsets that did that.

RunningWild12 · 11/11/2017 14:51

Part of the guidance refers to binders causing shortness of breath, but that they can have positive effect on the mental health of girl wearing them. Do you think it's worth contacting chief medical officer in Scotland and asking if this has been researched, the evidence base for such advice and if she agrees with advice being given to girls? Yes I am clutching at straws.

yantantethermetherpimp · 11/11/2017 14:21

In fact the entire of patriarchy is based on dick worship isn't it?

Grin only laughing cuz I don't want to cry...

VerticalBlinds · 11/11/2017 14:15

Same as the golf club (men only) that caitlyn jenner still happily attends and the other day about a MTF being allowed to continue membership at an exclusive men's club.

The institutions that churn out the men who will have power, and the ones that allow them to network once they have it, they know full well who they want as members and who they don't in all this. Gender is irrelevant - I'm afraid they appear to be genital fetishists.

In fact the entire of patriarchy is based on dick worship isn't it?
