They got Stephanie's surname wrong but other than that, they actually deserve clicks for this one.

I suspect the reason your DH isn’t worried is because it won’t really affect him.

It will affect his daughter though. Ask him how he feels about having fully intact man getting naked in her locker room. If it makes her feel uncomfortable, she is the one with the problem.

This subject is sometimes quite difficult to explain to men. But little bit of drip feeding might get him there.

colouringinagain · 04/11/2017 23:16

My 'd'h is not remotely concerned about any of this, oh it's complex he says. Angry Yes, but it's mostly abusive. Feel.so sad for these mixed up kids.

colouringinagain · 04/11/2017 23:01

Oh gosh, yes that's them. So, so sad. Sad

Will have to think carefully about how to tell her Sad

Thanks for letting me know though.

Is she talking about Jazz Jennings?

Because he is now 17. He is permanently sterile, has no sexual function or sexual feelings, has never had an orgasm will be on drugs the rest of his life and there’s not enough penile material to create a neovagina, because although he has the face of a girl, he has the genitals of a prepubescent boy.

This linked thread goes into more detail. But you might want to gently tell your daughter what it has actually happened.

Just had a v interesting chat with my dd12. Can't remember how we quite got onto it. But she told me about this YouTuber called Jazz. She is 11 but living and looking like a girl (though born male). At 7 apparently he told his parents he felt like a girl and they have gone with it. He looks like a girl and his having puberty delaying drugs, drugs that stop his testosterone, extra oestrogen. Doesn't like his genitalia.

Now maybe he is truly transgender.

But I am concerned about how much encouragement his parents were giving, how at 11 he's on major hormonal injections.

My dd thinks She - Jazz - is really cool and cute and accepts totally that a 7 year old boy can decide he's a girl.

We had a v interesting discussion where I talked about how what we think at 7 and 11 is very different to what we think at 18, 25 or even 40. Also explained the implications of the hormone treatment.

I emphasised that males and females can do anything... Girls can do - and are good at stuff seen as boy's and vice versa.

Ended up moving on to homosexuality and bisexual issues with ds9 too. My OH snuck off upstairs Hmm

Good chat though!

Thanks Poppy. Yes I'm aware of that website. Have got some specialist input now but it was very frustrating when I first started with symptoms.

Poppyred85 · 31/10/2017 17:13

Witch
You might like to look at www.menopausematters.co.uk or patient.info/health/menopause-and-hormone-replacement-therapy-hrt#nav-3. They have lots of useful information, including about treating menopausal, symptoms during the perimenopause and HRT. As a general rule, NICE advises that hormones should not be routinely used to diagnose the menopause (although as always there are exceptions to this) in women over the age of 45 experiencing menopausal symptoms.
Sorry to derail.

Has everyone seen this Mermaids parody? Get in quick before mermaids shut it down.

Particularly interested about the CEO who had a failed pop career? Is that true?

Ah, ok. So it’s a particular hormonal profile they need to have evidenced, not just reported lack of periods?

badbadhusky · 31/10/2017 09:00

Witch, could you not just lie or do they pop by daily and check your liner?

There are blood tests to check your hormone levels which show whether you are peri/menpoausal.

badbadhusky · 31/10/2017 08:58

Does anyone have a link to the NHS memo mentioned in the DM article? The PDF I found seemed quite bland, so I wondered if it was the interpretation of the guidance rather than the letter which is causing problems.

Maisy I posted a similar issue on a thread recently. At 47 and having awful peri-menopausal symptoms my GP refused me HRT because guidelines say that I'm not 'officially' menopausal and allowed HRT until my periods had stopped completely for 2 years.

However, identifying as gender-dysphoric at 9 would entitle me to meds to alleviate unwanted physical symptoms (i.e.: to stop hormones that lead to puberty). It's surreal in some ways isn't it?

MaisyPops · 30/10/2017 20:05

And at the same time doctors refuse to sterilise women in their 20s & 30s because they "might change their mind"...
You know I'd not considered that.
Grown women can't make a decision about their reproductive choices but a child can make an 'informed decision' which may leave them most likely unable to ever have children.
What a bizarre state of affairs

Unfortunately your experience is only too common. Transwomen, or trans-identified males (TIMs) fall into two categories. HSTS (homosexual transsexual) and AGP, (autogynephile).

The HSTS are mostly quite happy to be known as trans, not women. Aren’t interested in appropriating women’s spaces and culture to the detriment of women.

But AGPs (basically cross dressing men with a fetish) are utterly compelled to be considered women and to infiltrate women’s spaces as much as possible as it feeds the fetish. The ones who find women talking about biological stuff exclusionary because it doesn’t feed the fetish of their idea of themselves women.

The transwoman, sorry TIM, in your group who demands to be centred and will not defer to other women is typical of an AGP. Generally the profile is that they are older, divorced, often fathers and with a background in some male dominated profession like IT or the military.

Not always. But it’s fairly typical. Think Bruce Jenner, Frank Maloney, Zoey Tur.

DonkeySkin · 30/10/2017 12:33

IMO we really need to stop saying 'transwoman'. It completely obscures the power dynamics at work here, prevents us from naming the agent.
