At least two more feminists have been attacked by trans chauvinists today, set upon while they were handing out leaflets at the Anarchist Book Fair. One is Green Party candidate Olivia Palmer and the other a trade union rep Helen Steel

'Ada Wells is is also heavily involved in Edinburgh Anarchists, all that time at that expensive private school will have given him all the skills to be a true anarchist, but then, anarchy has always been for and about wealthy men.'

Funny you should say that, I've never met an anarchist who wasn't a former public school boy.

'How are they more (or even equally) as marginalised as the homeless, or the disabled, for example? Where does the oppression actually come in?'

Coincidentally, I've just got home after a meeting of a organisation I work with who are launching a campaign for more inclusivity in a particular environment. Two of the three groups mentioned as being the most marginalised were disabled people and the hidden homeless. (The third was asylum seekers). Within this organisation, trans people are very well represented and very vocal, way beyond the percentage of the population they represent.

some of those famous images of circumgender women holding up signs or emblazoned with tattoos reading "die ciscumgender trans scum

What the what, now? Famous images? Really? What like the image of the little girl in Vietnam, or the soldier kissing the woman in Times Square, or Marilyn's skirt blowing up?

Who are these people with tattoos reading "die ciscumgender trans scum"? Has anyone ever seen one? You'd have to choose a fairly big body part to fit all those words on...

OlennasWimple · 01/11/2017 17:40

I definitely went through a lengthy and awkward process into womanhood, involving real bodily changes and hormone treatment along with having to adjust to society's altered view of me and how I presented myself.

Fuck, I'm a transwoman!

Betty184 · 01/11/2017 17:30

A trans woman is anyone who feels like they've transitioned in any way to womanhood!

I was a girl and then transitioned to womanhood. Does that count? It was a difficult, emotionally-charged, hormonal transition through my teenage years, if that makes a difference!

FizzyWaterAndElderflower · 01/11/2017 17:14

Are you a cucumber exclusionary radical salad?

Oh god, lets not go there again. We were accused of being quite silly and not taking this seriously at all last time.

I think it might be my phone, EEs parental controls seem not to be just for kids.

This is interesting:

I’ve read that before, but it was a while ago. Now everything in it has the unmistakable sound of veracity.

The narcissistic rage over perceived slights and any kind of questioning of their inner identity. Definitely.

One part I hadn’t picked up on, was the often close relationship with the mother, but distant relationship with the father.

I seem to remember someone talking about Eddie Izzard being obsessed with his mother. And another person said the same about their ex who was AGP.

Fascinating reading for anyone who has five minutes. It’s not long, but it’s very interesting.

Some insight, worth a read.

SecretHandshake · 01/11/2017 16:28

Thanks Datun, that is the perfect reply. I'm thinking I might word it a teeny bit differently to make sure I sound like a proper transwoman. Does 'Die in fire terf scum' seem right?

Wtaf?

Am I the only one who kept just seeing cucumber ?

I'd never heard of 'circumgender', so googled and found this Grin

A trans woman is anyone who feels like they've transitioned in any way to womanhood! The term is open to anyone who chooses to self-identify as a trans woman. The fact that I don't have a "typical" history of transition doesn't mean I shouldn't have access to, for instance, electrolysis for my chin hair, which causes me significant distress.

To be a trans woman is to feel like in your life you've undergone significant changes to how you present your own femininity and what it means for you to be a woman. This change doesn't have to be surgery, hormones, et cetera. A trans woman doesn't need to have been born with a penis, and to say otherwise is the kind of biological determinism I really thought we'd gotten past as feminists.

And

When you see a circumgender trans person blowing off steam toward a ciscumgender trans person (i.e. some of those famous images of circumgender women holding up signs or emblazoned with tattoos reading "die ciscumgender trans scum"), keep in mind that the circumgender trans woman isn't the privileged person here, the ciscumgender trans person is.

Additionally, it has come to my attention that CERTs (Circumgender Exclusionary Radical Transactivists) object to the use of the term "ciscumgender" in the circumgender community. But to just refer to this privileged class of trans people as "non-circumgender" is to refuse to acknowledge their relative level of privilege and to make circumgender forever seem like the outcast, the outlier.

And

You can also make sure that circumgender women are centered at trans events. The violence suffered by ciscumgender trans women is often put at the front and center of violence against transgender people movements, to the detriment of circumgender people.

PLEASE tell him he’s invalidating you and it’s not up to him to assign a label to you that you don’t identify with

SecretHandshake · 01/11/2017 14:53

Just look at this transphobic bigot trying to erase my transwomanhood. Circumgender my arse. This is literal violence I tell you.

There are some medical professionals exploiting trans people for gain, but that seems to be being overlooked.

Datun · 01/11/2017 14:38

Of course they’re not oppressed. As you say, it requires exploitation of some description and material gain for the oppressor.

No one is trying to gain anything from trans-people. Least of all women. There is literally nothing to exploit.

Bucketsandspoons · 01/11/2017 14:03

Oppression means (according to the dictionary) prolonged cruel or injust treatment or exercise of authority. Synonymns include tyranny, subjugation, enslavement and exploitation.

The requirement of service is usually involved. Patriarchy and misogyny definitely involves a more powerful body (men) requiring service from women and resenting limitations set on it. So definite subjugation and exploitation.

Really not sure how trans people are subjugated or how anyone (particularly biological women, who lets face it are the ones all the anger, hatred, rape and death threats are aimed at, you never see anger towards men and their male violence despite their being the ones who commit as far as I know all of the assaults and murders against trans people) are demanding service from trans people?

However the GRB and TRA materials definitely are about demanding services from biological women, and subjugation comes in the form of 'we're all women, but this is the hierarchy and transwomen come above biological women'.

OlennasWimple · 01/11/2017 13:51

Truly marginalised people don't have time, energy or financial resources to be able to navel gaze, spend half their time on social media and attend a thousand different rallies and protests, because they are just trying to get on with living day to day.

BertrandRussell · 01/11/2017 12:58

" look at the shit she is spouting right now about some of the most fucked over marginalised people in society. " Who, despite being fucked over and marginalised have managed to drive government policy and effectively silence great swathes of the population.....

BertrandRussell · 01/11/2017 12:54

"Was it verbal abuse, or was it violence?"

Same thing, isn't it

Xenophile · 01/11/2017 12:50

Ada Wells is is also heavily involved in Edinburgh Anarchists, all that time at that expensive private school will have given him all the skills to be a true anarchist, but then, anarchy has always been for and about wealthy men.

Datun · 01/11/2017 12:45

It’s about being shouted at in the street and murdered. Despite the fact that less than one trans person per year is murdered in this country. And in fact transitioning actually reduces your chance of being killed.

So then you’re left with abuse.

But that is impossible to quantify, when stating biology is literal violence.

Blanchefleur · 01/11/2017 12:17

TRAs seem to be constantly describing themselves as 'the most marginalised' or 'the most oppressed' in society.

What exactly do they mean by this? How are they more (or even equally) as marginalised as the homeless, or the disabled, for example? Where does the oppression actually come in?

The only example that ever seems to be given (for the UK) is toilets. But not being granted access to the toilet of your choice, when you can still use the appropriate toilet for your biological sex, is nothing like being a wheelchair user and finding that there is no accessible toilet at all!

Are men's toilets really a hotbed of violence? If so, where are the campaigns to address male violence and make men's toilets safer for all men?
