At least two more feminists have been attacked by trans chauvinists today, set upon while they were handing out leaflets at the Anarchist Book Fair. One is Green Party candidate Olivia Palmer and the other a trade union rep Helen Steel

Sorry for my rant earlier. I'm just a bit fed-up. I've fallen out badly with a long term friend over this and despite building up years and years of a good-reputation in my secondary school, I'm now looked upon as the terfy anti-Christ for daring to criticise the school counselor because she was pushing a trans agenda.

Half-term started under a cloud and I'm dreading going back next Monday. My colleagues are, on the whole, blissfully ignorant of this whole movement so I'm coming across as ranty and opinionated and very much 'bald and fighting over a comb' (NB that very much made me grin despite my black mood). They just don't see the bigger picture here and looked at me like I was crazy for telling them that this had massive implications for women - their wives, sisters, mothers and daughters. My Head told me quietly that she will see me about this upon my return but in the meantime "to have a think about my role as blah blah blah and my responsibilities towards the school community".

It all sounded very bleak. Sad

Apologies if there is another thread on this and double apologies that is a Daily Fail link, but Lord Robert Winston s now highlighting the damage done by gender reassignment surgery and the implications of hormone treatment on fertility . He has predictably been called ignorant and vile, but again, it's good that someone so respected and well known is talking about these issues.

Oh God no! It was a famous Argentinian author (Borges? Not sure) talking about the Argentinian junta and Thatcher going to war over the Falklands.

Datun · 02/11/2017 10:37

This would all feel like two bald men arguing over a comb,

Brilliant! I’ve never heard that. Did you make it up?

annandale · 02/11/2017 10:27

That's the thing. This would all feel like two bald men arguing over a comb, on the Internet, if it weren't for an actual bill to be presented in Parliament, actual children taking chemotherapy drugs for a cultural and mental health problem. And now actual women getting punched in the face.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 02/11/2017 10:26

LOL Datun. Was testing but on wrong thread. Couldn't post an amzon link for some reason, weird

Datun · 02/11/2017 10:19

You nodded off assigned?

Violent 'transactivist' men are the problem. Their sex is not irrelevant, as men are responsible for the vast majority of violence, both against women and against other men; it's not helpful (or feminist) to pretend it's all just done by 'people'.

Their motivation isn't irrelevant either, as the 'TERF' slur is used to dehumanise women and justify violence (and of course trans-identifying men can claim what they're doing isn't male violence against women).

nauticant · 02/11/2017 09:37

Trans activists are not the problem. Violent people are.

That directly echoes "guns are not the problem, people are". And is as much use in analysing the problem.

The problem is that in both cases people are enabled to be violent. And in both cases, the enabling factor needs to be considered.

Trans activists are not the problem. Violent people are.

That’s like saying men aren’t responsible for male violence, violent people are are.

How many transactivists are you aware of who are not violent?

Don’t lose heart. The incident at speakers corner opened the floodgates.

And yes, at the moment, the water is trickling through. But the gates are now open.

People are speaking up. But more importantly, people are less frightened to speak up.

Keep angry, keep talking, keep informed. Keep writing to MPs. Talk to friends.

The tide is turning.

ArcheryAnnie · 02/11/2017 09:16

I dunno, CisMyArse, I think there is a little bit of movement. I've raised it in several of the organisations I am involved it, and haven't (yet) been expelled from them - both are nice organisations full of liberal types who are really genuinely wanting to be progressive, but who don't know enough about it all to realise how regressive, misogynistic and homophobic a lot of trans activism is. I've been pleasantly surprised! (And I realise "not getting expelled from progressive organisation for saying progressive things" is a pretty low bar for being pleasantly surprised, but I'll take it nonetheless.)

CisMyArse · 02/11/2017 09:03

I'm sick of all this bullshit. I know you're pointing out the utter ridiculousness of it all and the sheer lack of fact and reality, but I'm so fucking tired of this fight. It gets us nowhere. No mainstream media coverage of Speakers Corner nor this latest one - no tv report, no panorama reported saying "hang on Joe Public, can you not see what's being passed through Parliament?"

It's all very tiring and futile and it's getting us nowhere.

Gingernaut · 02/11/2017 08:28

I'm transitioning through perimenopause. It's a tough journey.

You sound like you were there, is that the case? Can you elaborate?

ArcheryAnnie · 02/11/2017 08:11

If I identify as circumgender, does that mean the NHS will pay to remove my chin hair?

Grannyd47 · 02/11/2017 06:48

This is but the latest (but perhaps the most gross) incident of trans activists insisting that people born as men (but now identifying as women) should be allowed access to women only space. Anyone who doesnt agree with them is attacked, physically and verbally. In Helen's case her leaflet was torn up and she was pushed by a gang. They say that disagreing with them is tantamount to fascism and is in itself violent. They have to say it is "fascist" because that is the only set of views that people believe it is legitimate to not allow- to "no platform". Trans activists frequently close down and attack meetings of women who dont agree with them- Linda Bellos, Germaine Greer, Sheila Jeffrreys.
The other aspect of this trans agenda is to demand that women dont refer to their womanness- that it is women who give birth, breast feed, have abortions etc etc. This undermines much of mumsnet's important work

Yes, it deals with a lot of young people.

(Although I suspect those pesky Olympic Committee folks will only allow so much evening up cheating & will resort to biological essentialism to ensure that only AMAB transwomen get all the medals in the women’s events.)

badbadhusky · 01/11/2017 19:55

Does this AFAB transwomen initiative mean that AFAB transwomen also get the higher testosterone threshold in sports/Olympic events? That would level the playing field somehat. I like it!

Bunnychopz · 01/11/2017 19:14

How interesting! Women identifying as trans women and the outrage
