Bumbledumb - Ireland and Malta? The same Ireland and Malta which are so massively progressive in their abortion laws?

Genuinely mindbending.

QuentinSummers · 19/10/2017 07:24

If she is determined not to have it treated as an illness, then I take it treatment will not be provided by the NHS.
Great point datun and that's far more likely to be behind the conservatives support than any ounce of actually giving a shit about people.
There has been a huge rise to gender specialist clinics etc, bet the govt just want to wriggle out of paying for that.

Trailedanderror · 19/10/2017 06:57

Selma
Give MPs specific examples of the problems - cuttings or a link to Muscato in the women's shelter, the attacks on women in Target unisex changing rooms etc.
I did that when I met my OP, photos and news report about Clare Derbyshire. I felt a bit of a loon, tbh- it's all so bizarre.
And the crux of the matter is that people with penises will be allowed into women's wards, into women's prisons and dv refuges and that's not a conversation that's easy to have.

Bumbledumb · 19/10/2017 01:00

There are four European countries which allow legal gender recognition based on self-identification: Norway, Denmark, Malta and Ireland. In France the decision is no longer medical, but it does require the approval of a judge.

Ereshkigal · 19/10/2017 00:59

It's chilling, DJ. We need to push for misogyny to be made a hate crime under the equality act protected characteristics. Otherwise they will taunt us and we will be punished for reacting. We have no protection.

This week has been hell for women...Just imagine how worse it will get once men have free entry to every female space they like. Just imagine it. Before, even when it was really bad, there was that space women could feel it belonged to us. We could group, think, offer safety. That will all be fucked and boundary blurred with no statistics to help.

Its going to be worse than this bleak image; if we challenge them, we will be guilty of hate speech.
People who support this want women subjugated and silenced.

Ereshkigal · 19/10/2017 00:52

but the logical conclusion to that stance is no more funding from the state.

Exactly. Don't they get this?

Miffer · 19/10/2017 00:22

So.

Do we have any actual idea what these new changes would look like? Would it be an online form for instance? They are sketchy on the details.

No medical checks. Fine. So no checks at all? If there are checks who would possibly be qualified if we are removing medical from the equation? Clinical psychologists spring to mind but then they are medical aren't they? Criminal checks obviously wouldn't work when you have violent offenders at the forefront of the movement. Even age checks wouldn't be okay.

The thing is nothing is ever going to be good enough is it?

Is there a current model of this in another country?

quencher · 19/10/2017 00:19

So I have been thinking about why Tories are so supportive of the trans agenda and I think it is because like the limited social mobility in the 19th century which had new comers to wealth always trying to pass as old money it actually serves to cement rather than break down tradition and gender roles seriously** that just blew my mind. It is true with the way they have been going lately, including the comments about single men being a problem. Groups that don’t always conform to typical nuclear family has always been a problem for the conservatives. Their reforms have always been made to maintain this type of family value. I have read about places like Iran and religious fundamentalists who would rather have trans child to gay son or daughter.

The conservative line of thinking protects patriarchy and maintains it just like other groups and state around the world with similar family values and views.

A lot of teens who ID as transgender have autism so sterilising them gets rid of the 'autistic gene' as well.this angers me.

This week has been hell for women. Reading all the experiences has been disturbing. Just imagine how worse it will get once men have free entry to every female space they like. Just imagine it. Before, even when it was really bad, there was that space women could feel it belonged to us. We could group, think, offer safety. That will all be fucked and boundary blurred with no statistics to help. Without statistics they can’t offer help or tackle issues that concern women. Or it will all be all muddled up that it will be useless to tell between trans men and females.

Mass MN letter-writing campaign to No 10?

SelmaAndJubjub · 19/10/2017 00:11

I don’t think it’s a conspiracy, though I do think pharma companies are now fuelling it. I think it’s the triumph of post-modernism. It’s much much broader than transgenderism - it’s everything from Gove’s “We’ve had enough of experts” to no-platforming.

doctorcuntybollocks · 19/10/2017 00:07

Whether it's that calculated or not - and as I say, I'm undecided - the effect will be a huge lurch to the right.

DJBaggySmalls · 19/10/2017 00:01

This is my conspiracy theory;
This is is a right wing agenda. The aim is to make people turn away from anything thats connected to feminism or LGB, and move them to the right and conservatism. Along the lines of forcing your kid to smoke a packet of cigarettes to put them off smoking.
As a bonus they become profitable lifelong medical patients, malleable and controllable through supply of the drugs they want.

If I'm proved wrong in 10 years time, I will eat my hat for charity. But since gay kids are being encouraged to sterilise themselves in a way that would make Mengeles and Goebbels proud, I think my hat is safe.

DonkeyOaty · 18/10/2017 23:29

yy to expendable. Collateral damage innit. Jeeze.

SelmaAndJubjub · 18/10/2017 23:17

MPs know that the public hated mixed hospital wards and the Tories often boast about eliminating them. If you have a Tory MP, it's worth pointing out that self ID will allow men into all wards and other private spaces. Ask them how they think that will go down with the public?

It's also really important to make the point that 80% of TIM do not undergo hormone or surgical treatment and are sexually attracted to women. Most people assume they are vulnerable gay guys who have undergone surgery.

Give MPs specific examples of the problems - cuttings or a link to Muscato in the women's shelter, the attacks on women in Target unisex changing rooms etc.

doctorcuntybollocks · 18/10/2017 23:14

Donkey, I think the children who are being destroyed are considered particularly 'expendable'.

doctorcuntybollocks · 18/10/2017 23:10

I can't decide whether we're sleepwalking into a crazy new version of hell on earth or whether there's some intent behind this. The trans movement is taking down women's rights and gay rights and has the potential to ruin the entire civil rights movement by association.

DonkeyOaty · 18/10/2017 23:09

DrCB that is a very good though bleak and sobering point.

Trailedanderror · 18/10/2017 23:07

Head. Desk.
Whoever put Brave New World Handmaids Tale and 1984 on the curriculum has a lot to answer for.

doctorcuntybollocks · 18/10/2017 23:01

A lot of teens who ID as transgender have autism so sterilising them gets rid of the 'autistic gene' as well.

Slimthistime · 18/10/2017 22:59

First "I seriously don't get it. What's the hook that is making so many people in power lose all rationality?"

I don't get it either.

I initially had a response from my local MP which said I had misunderstood things and talked rubbish about "living as a man/woman" and then when I sent another reply asking for clarification, I heard nothing.

he is normally really good at replying promptly but I think he is really hoping I don't chase up on this one.

Is it possible that politicians are thinking in reality it won't happen much at all? I'm willing to bet most of them won't even have heard of Muscato (for example) or notice what's going on in prisons.

OP posts:
busyboysmum · 18/10/2017 22:59

Well Iran loves it. You're forced there as a homosexual to transition into the other sex. So it must a really be deeply regressive and enforce strong gender roles I guess. Plus has the added benefit of sterilizing gay people so they can't spread the gay gene? Is maybe the thinking?

CancellyMcChequeface · 18/10/2017 22:57

I'd like to ask her what she thinks of the fact that the only exception to self-ID will apparently be women identifying as men if it means that by doing so they inherit titles over their younger brothers. They're still women, regardless of their inner gender identity or feelings. Why isn't this being decried as transphobic, when having doubts about a man identifying as a woman being awarded a women's scholarship apparently is?

Is there any answer that isn't essentially 'because male privilege'?

Datun · 18/10/2017 22:52

Surely they must see this as a cote winner. Either they think it’s progressive, or they think other people think it’s progressive.

I hope there is enough time to get the media talking about this.

SmartiesHaveTheAnswer · 18/10/2017 22:50

I'm really worried that someone with so much power, can blindly sleepwalk into passing this kind of act.
