Seems to me there are undertones that women should be controlling men better.

Also quite a lot of blatant sexism such as men who aren't married develop "low value for women" which suggests to me that the value women hold is intrinsicly linked to their chastity/marriageability to ID'S

Interested to hear what others think because I'm being a bit inarticulate on this.

john is just going to do that thing where a posters suggests something to do...but john can't do it

And i am sorry that john is having a shitty time of it and isnt well...i really am

But the whole thread has turned into john telling feminists on this board that they are doing it wrong...and then refusing to countenance any suggestion that there is something (however small) he can do

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:35

Though thinking about it, I frequently condemn the sex industries on The Guardian whenever an article concerns them.

But as we should all know by now, social media has hardly made the world a more enlightened, progressive place has it? Anything little old me says is just a drop in a big ocean of rape porn, beheadings and racist trolling. All we're doing on social media is make Silicon Valley techies ever richer while thinking we're changing the world.

TheSparrowhawk · 09/10/2017 21:33

So you know nothing about feminism and don't want to do anything about the inequality facing women or men. You just spend the day on mumsnet telling women to do better while doing precisely zero yourself. Well done.

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:33

Fine. Your choice. It's all up to you, obviously. Maybe stop telling women how we should do feminism then?

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:31

I'm not on Facebook or Twitter and don't want to be.

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:30

Social media would be a good place to start.

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:27

I condemn all that stuff...I'm completely and very vociferously opposed to pornography and prostitution. But I don't challenge sexist banter much because I don't go out much and don't hear it. There isn't much rape apologism at the food bank in the local church that I'v heard - they're mostly older ladies.

I do not go out with 'the lads'.

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:24

No, you said if you heard someone was going to commit a rape you'd call the police or get violent. What about the attitudes which provide such fertile ground for the objectification of women and violence against us?

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:24

I don't have a beef with women??? Where did I say I did???

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:23

I already said I've always challenged rape apologism..

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:22

Then what is your beef with women exactly?

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:21

Quite NoLove.

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:21

I too have worked hard - for twenty years in retail, care and educational support. I have cleaned up shit and vomit and been physically attacked by severely autistic children day after day for years. I'm tired now. I apply for scores of jobs in admin, for the local council, at the local uni, and get nothing. Hundreds of them. My dream is to earn 16K a year because it would mean I could afford my own flat. I am angry, and frustrated, and severely depressed, and I know I am going to die alone somewhere bad.

I have very little time for other people tbh, and there is no way I'm changing the world. The end.

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:20

So I've spoonfed you two ways I believe you can support women. Challenge rape apologism and support women against gender identity politics.

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:19

That's my opinion. I believe it's the biggest threat to women's rights in decades,

NoLoveofMine · 09/10/2017 21:19

Instead of berating feminists and derailing conversations on a feminist board you could use countless other forms of social media or forums and challenge other men on the misogyny which is rampant there.

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:17

Support women as a class in not being erased by transgender identity politics so our problems are made invisible. Don't dismiss it airily or handwave it away.

TheSparrowhawk · 09/10/2017 21:17

I thought you knew exactly what feminism was about John? Or were you just criticising something you have no idea about?

HandbagKrabby · 09/10/2017 21:17

You can type, John, you can at least lobby MPs on men's issues as you see them or you could learn how to do online support for men's charities or offer to set something up if this doesn't exist. Feminists aren't stopping you.

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:16

Well, OK, but this is getting silly.

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:15

OK, but what is the contemporary equivalent of winning the vote for women that I could currently be engaged with. That was a concrete goal that people made happen. What is the current goal?

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:15

Well I can reassure you I didn't get my good job easily John. I had to do my fair share of work I didn't want to do, and saw plenty of mediocre men given an easier ride while I was sidelined. I freely admit I've been lucky but it's not been a constant factor in my career. It's been a long road. Now I'm ttc and that may chuck a massive spanner in the works. Heigh ho.

TheSparrowhawk · 09/10/2017 21:14

I'm sorry you're ill. I'm still not doing your thinking for you.

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:14

You won't tell me what is I could do for women. Just humour me and give me one example of something I could do. But you won't, you'll just say 'it's not up to me to do your thinking for you blah blah' which is why this conversation is going round in endless circles.

I am very ill. I help out at the Food bank. I tire easily and cannot do much.

TheSparrowhawk · 09/10/2017 21:12

The women who won the vote for women didn't have a career in politics. Because they weren't allowed to.
