FINALLY! The Guardian writes something that is not Gender critical bashing

Agreed, Ekphrasis, it was a good piece. And Suzanne Moore is on our side, I think, with the gender critical stuff, having been subjected to a lot of online nastiness a few years ago for supposedly "transphobic" remarks. She hasn't written about it recently, and I wonder if that's because she can't face the inevitable onslaught. Though it's possible, of course, that she's been told not to write about that stuff.

Yes, the lovely Owen, who would be horrified, nay disgusted to find himself with a man who had a male clitoris. The very thought of genitalia other than his own is beyond his comprehension. Presumably is mother gave birth to him by CS.

"War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength" ....and Rotherham and the other child grooming cases were made up by bigots, and so was Cologne, and women can have penises and men can have babies and transwomen are women and can have everything they want. I've been through with the Guardian for a long time.

Oh and don't forget Owen Jones, who thinks lesbians should sleep with men!

Too little too late from the Guardian for me too.

I must say I do now read it all with an awareness and skepticism of their inability to recognise the infringement of women's rights that some of the trans issues have, which I only learnt about here to be honest.

Some elements of the times I struggle with.

It's reminding me of a link I found on mumsnet to a discussion in America of women's safe spaces. The panel had a strange mix of ultra right Christians and feminist academics and refuge workers.

The guardian is affiliated too much to labour and the greens to fully be able to get this, but maybe they're beginning to bridge the gap.

I think the guardian did articles / published extracts from the myth of mars - google is showing quite a few from 10 years ago.

I agree with hackmum as when I read the women's section there is a lot of very important pieces. Cologne was a let down. And yes, they don't get the clash between gender issues and women's rights yet. I wonder if it's because they have a lot of trans contributors?

I must say, when I go on the app, any trans writing is not placed within the women's section. It is completely separate. The women's section is only about women.

I didn't see this piece by Matthew D'Ancona when it first came out in the summer, but it's an interesting one (even if I disagree with the conclusion that it's all a bit tricky but there's no "significant problem")

Seems women's rights are important to the Guardian only when there are not other competing rights e.g.
Immigrants rights trump women's rights
Transgender rights trump women's rights.

Same old, same old..

The problem with that is, would it be printed? I think the Guardian is more like the BBC with its 'balance' in reporting.

I suppose it would be a positive sign if they published any gender critical letters - but as they are fully in the grip of "anything less than positive about transgender issues is literal violence" it's doubtful.

I will believe it when I see them openly publishing some gender critical pieces and fronting out the haters - because until they do I see them as the same as all the women silencers out there.

Women are important to the Guardian. The paper is hugely proud of the fact that, for example, 43% of front page bylines are women, compared to 22% in the media as a whole.

It just hasn't cottoned on, it seems, to the fact that there's a huge conflict between women's rights and transgender rights. Or perhaps, more depressingly, it has cottoned on, and thinks transgender rights are more important.

Either way, perhaps it would be good for a lot of people to write to the letters page in support of this morning's letter.

Incidentally the second signee Prof Deborah Cameron wrote that brilliant book “The Myth of Mars and Venus”.

Yep. I remember the coverage by the Guardian. The immigrant men in Cologne and Munich attacked those women out of resentment for their smartphones because obviously German men are neither affluent or own smartphones.

I'm hoping that the Guardian isn't a lost cause. They regularly publish Julie Bindel, though, sadly, it's been a long time since she's published anything in the paper specifically on the transgender issue.

They also publish Suzanne Moore, who is sympathetic to the gender-critical view (people might remember a hoo-hah a few years ago when Julie Burchill wrote a robust piece for the Observer about the trans issue, after Moore was attacked by transactivists for remarks she made on Twitter).

And then there's Hadley Freeman, who's also pretty good.

So whereas their coverage has recently been abysmal, I do hold out hope that change is possible.

Last year they did a survey of readers (I had a subscription at the time) and I raised the issue of them silencing women re Cologne and transgender issues. Although I ticked the box saying that they could follow up further with me, no follow up. Funny that.....

I find it incredible they can't see how harmful the anti-women approach is to the bottom line of their paper. I wonder if they have ever done any research on how many of their readers are women. Traditionally a lot will have been, I would think, given it was always the paper of the female-dominated professions like teaching and social work.

Yes, they delete any gender critical comment, no matter how simple or factual. I used to comment politely on the trans articles, usually something about 'sex' and 'gender' not being synonyms. However, they were always deleted swiftly. I just stopped reading and commenting altogether.

Funnily enough, they're losing readers and funding at a crazy rate... I wonder what they're doing wrong?

Their Cologne coverage was shocking, offensively so. Their columnist wrote that you can see why women with jobs and smartphones might cause resentment amongst immigrant men.

Is anyone writing to them?

I'm not eloquent nor hugely knowledgeable about these issues, so many of you are. What could be done?

BTW I think the other lot are no better! But at least with them you can see the wolf.
