TRANS HEALTH MANIFESTO

I'm choking on my porridge. This Trans Health manifesto is...just...gosh.

I've only skim read it but they don't seem to have included Female Genital Mutilation on their list of bad things done to bodies. Interesting!

We demand that the National Health Service be renamed the National Trans Service. It will be illegal for the NTS to treat any cis-women unless it is for their transition to real men.

It's not in there yet but just a modest proposal of a small addition.

BertrandRussell · 21/09/2017 09:37

Are we sure that this is real? Remember that feminists are still having to explain the SCUM manifesto 40 years on.........

Natsku · 21/09/2017 09:36

That is absolutely nuts, surely it must be a spoof?!

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 21/09/2017 09:33

Not fringe views rejected by the majority*

Certainly not by the organisations representing LGBT and advising on policy.

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 21/09/2017 09:31

Dismissing this as the equivalent of Britain First is comfortable, but Britain First are not consulting with the government in creating legislation, or being validated by them. This group were consulted with and contributed to Maria Miller's report on which the legislation about to be waved through is based.

After the event at Speakers Corner last week where four transactivists from the group including this organisation, beat up a woman, the same group of transactivists organised a contact of all LGBT organisations to prevent them making a statement or speaking out against the violence, or making criticism of what the TAs did at that event. It worked. Only Stonewall has spoken out against it, and even then it's not separated itself from the people at that event or their actions. These are not fringe views rejected by the minority.

If Britain First or the EDL announced an open policy of no debate allowed, being 'radically and transformatively violent' against women while wearing t shirts representing bloodstains and 'punch a (whatever- woman? muslim? immigrant? refugee? LGBT person? bank manager?), and actively organising to shut down any event they felt made them 'unsafe' by intimidating, stalking, harrassing and threatening, the national papers would be all over it. They would be shamed and vilified, not excused.

Datun · 21/09/2017 09:22

They have a presence in quite a few areas. Plus, after looking at their website, there are people who give talks to colleges, etc, who are affiliated with them.

And they have money.

They may be nuts, but they certainly made headlines at speakers corner, and were quoted the next day in the newspaper. (Although that quote was completely changed from the original one on their website.)

ArbitraryName · 21/09/2017 09:09

Yes. I think it's just an example of a kind of demanding moon on a stick style, that seems to appeal to certain kinds of extremist thinkers. Meanwhile, the people they purport to represent are further disadvantaged because it's too easy to dismiss the whole thing as ridiculous.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/09/2017 09:06

It feels like taking a Britain First or EDL manifesto as respresentative of anyone who has every questioned UK immigration policy

The tone reminds me of the sort of drivel Tommy Sheridan's Scottish Socialist Party used to come out with.

HornyTortoise · 21/09/2017 09:05

We demand hormones & blockers are made available over-the-counter and by free prescription upon request.

Dear fucking god.

They want chemotherapy available in superdrug. this is as far as I have got so far and its already absolutely batshit, not that I expected any less.

This just strikes me as another example of loud activism that is unlikely to represent the views of the majority of trans people. It feels like taking a Britain First or EDL manifesto as respresentative of anyone who has every questioned UK immigration policy.

The bit about demanding medical training is ridiculous. If individuals want medical training, they need to apply to medical school. It would be one thing to demand that society addresses systematic discrimination against trans people who apply to medical school, but this just demands medical training. It's not the same thing.

Similarly, it's insisting on free, on-demand access to all sorts of medical facilities, including consultant endocrinologists. While, at the same time insisting that medicine is a nazi/colonialist plot that must be dismantled. So it's lacking any hint of reality and basic coherence of position.

ArbitraryName · 21/09/2017 08:41

I find the tone of that manifesto quite uncomfortable. I'm particularly uncomfortable about the language of colonialism employed. And there's no indication of an awareness that the rest of society exists too.

stitchglitched · 21/09/2017 08:38

So beating up women is fine but birth certificates are an act of violence. Okaaay. I assumed this was a spoof but apparently not? Don't want much do they!

theaveragewife · 21/09/2017 08:37

Ok well if that happens I can self-identify as trans and be quids in, everyone's a winner.

ladyballs · 21/09/2017 08:36

Narcissism.

MorrisZapp · 21/09/2017 08:33

I'm interested in the 'material reparations' they want for historical crimes against (non identified) trans people.

Is this money? How much?

'Oh hi, I'm the government! I hear you're a trans folk? Here, I've got fifty quid for you to make up for that time a hundred years ago when a man dressed as a woman to evade capture and people laughed at him'

"they don't seem to have included Female Genital Mutilation on their list of bad things done to bodies"

I read the other day - can't remember the site, sorry - that the term female genital mutilation is "cis-sexist". The correct term to use is "removal of the clitoris" because the clitoris owner might identify as male. Or something.

Did you spot the reference to "the sterilisation & birth control trials forced on the women of Puerto Rico". Surely that should be "cis-women"? They slipped up there.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/09/2017 07:49

It's glorious. I like the bit about money to establish communes. Can you imagine living in a commune with these people? In fact, can you imagine them living in a commune with each other?
I am up for chipping in for that as long as there are hidden cameras.

TheWeeWitch · 21/09/2017 07:25

It’s real. Here’s a link to the ATH Edinburgh Tumblr page where it is posted in full -

daisygirlmac · 21/09/2017 07:14

I can't get on it for some reason

badbadhusky · 21/09/2017 07:12

I thought you were all being unkind about that manifesto. However, having read it, it's fucking bonkers. I don't even know where to begin, but it's very me, me, me - greedy for resources, education (medical training ffs!) and medical procedures which there are whole other populations with serious medical needs for similar procedures that aren't being met. The resources of our NHS are finite and I have no problem with trained medics gate-keeping.

ChattyLion · 21/09/2017 07:07

Yes I wondered if this er 'manifesto' has been written as that group's submission to the NHS consultation which Elan has linked to above. Which is 100% serious and is intended to guide NHS funding policy and services for trans adults.

Elanetical · 21/09/2017 06:55

Free access to these services on the NHS is being taken quite seriously by Public Health England. Fill in the consultation if you don't agree.

I demand the right to go into other people's houses, eat all their porridge and sleep in their beds. And I will get it, you see if I don't! And if you you horrid people don't let me do that I'll scream and scream and scream until I'm sick.

'We do not consider that our work will ever be complete, there will always be greater things on the horizon'

In other words, they have no final objective, and as soon as we concede to one set of demands they'll come up with some more.
