Not sure if I’ve got the right thread, but I thought I saw someone asking about the group Womens Place UK somewhere here in fem chat earlier today. Anyway, they’ve just tweeted this launch statement:

Looks pretty good to me!

Ekphrasis · 25/09/2017 18:44

Thanks rum. I'm very surprised the research was denied.

nauticant · 25/09/2017 18:43

I'm with Lancelottie. It seems that we could be on the verge of a mass delusion lifting in some parts. This could mean a fair number of people wanting to find out the facts from the gender-critical side. Now is the time to be ultra-careful about not including any truthy-looking facts that can easily be shot down as fake news.

Lancelottie · 25/09/2017 18:31

It would and does, but it's a straw man. Having one bit of your argument that's so easy to shoot down makes the rest of it less effective. And they could just have rephrased a bit to make it accurate.

SmartiesHaveTheAnswer · 25/09/2017 18:25

A high profile name like Huntley would grab attention though, wouldn't it?

Lancelottie · 25/09/2017 18:23

Yes, I know the Sun reported it as 'is alleged to be saying', but all the same, he is not a notorious example of someone now in a women's prison. They could have used Martin Ponting/Jessica Wingfield, a rapist who actually is in a women's prison.

busyboysmum · 25/09/2017 18:19

I guess if the self id proposals come in then there would be nothing to lose as you wouldn't have to convince a doctor, or take hormones or have any surgery.

busyboysmum · 25/09/2017 18:16

All the stories I've seen about Huntley come via other prisoners. Apparently he wishes to be called Lian in prison and referred to as she.

But it seems a common theme amongst violent prisoners to do anything to call attention to themselves. I suppose you'd get extra therapy and make up and maybe privacy in the bathroom.

SmartiesHaveTheAnswer · 25/09/2017 18:10

Huntley' name has appeared on a few threads. Is there any truth to this? Is he claiming this?

Lancelottie · 25/09/2017 17:54

We have seen the results of putting transgender-identified males in to women’s prisons. Several of the more infamous cases, such as the Soham murderer, Ian Huntley, involve males who have been convicted of the rape and murder of women and girls.
I wish that Greek petition had left Huntley out of it. He isn't in a women's prison. There is no solid evidence that he considers himself transgender. Talking bollocks casts doubts on the other evidence they offer, and that's unfortunate.

Backingvocals · 25/09/2017 16:16

I like the last sentence in that Greek piece to politicians - If you are not sure what a woman is please ask your mother.

Datun · 25/09/2017 15:46

We are not the only ones who are trying to stop this.

Greece is having the same problem and the UK are being cited as a road to NOT go down.

Women everywhere are being trodden down. This feels like some awful turning point in history, that future generations of females will either be relieved about or aghast over.

I never thought I'd be looking to The Sun for more balance than The Guardian - more twists and turns than a cobbler's knob!

The Times and the Sun are from the same stable - News International (Rupert Murdoch)

Ekphrasis · 25/09/2017 12:23

The Sun article is good - but then the next article I saw was all about a woman facing jail for having sex in a pizza takeaway - no mention of the man being at fault, and only a mild mention of the fact he's also being prosecuted for assault against her. It's all about her being busty and daring and feeling ashamed. Made me feel a little sick.

*on iplayer

Ekphrasis · 25/09/2017 12:14

Bad bad - I can't find it ok iplayer, I've been scooting forwards and backwards around that time and only found bits on Merkel?

Just tried to post a comment, but it hasn't shown up. Confused

busyboysmum · 25/09/2017 10:38

Get commenting giving a balanced view of what women think about it. The article is excellent.

Terrylene · 25/09/2017 10:37

Thanks Datun - I have a couple of days to wait!

hackmum · 25/09/2017 10:13

The Sun article is excellent. I'm astonished. This is the kind of article the Guardian should be publishing, but isn't (though they did at least publish a letter today about the violence against Maria MacLachlan).

The writer, Miles Gosslett, is a freelance journalist who has had some pretty impressive scoops. A good person to have on our side.

Rumandraisin1 · 25/09/2017 10:09

Really pleased with the article in the Sun - It covers so much in a really straight-forward way. I was beginning to despair after the garbled mess all the tabloids managed to make of the Speakers' Corner violence.
