For anyone interested there is a debate about the new legislation and gender this Wednesday evening in South London

Miranda Yardley and the Julia Long are speakers. I will definitely be attending so hope to see a few of you there.

Maybe you were right the first time Althea. We must remember that (the wrong type of ) public chat is 'literal violence'.

Comments on FB seem to indicate a 60yr old woman was punched. That's just from FB though so can't say how accurate it is / isn't.

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 21:06

Oh my, it looks like someone was strangled and hit Sad

AltheaThoon · 13/09/2017 21:04

Oh, my typo! A public chat was thrown Hmm Should read punch:

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 21:03

Oh gosh, I hope everyone is okay.

AltheaThoon · 13/09/2017 21:00

I've heard there was a public chat thrown tonight (by a TA). I hope the Spartaci are safe. Wish I could have made it.

SuzukiLi · 13/09/2017 21:00

I've been wondering this for months now, what is Spartacus?

Sandsnake · 13/09/2017 20:59

Just had a quick look at the Trans Health FB page and saw a recently added statement about an 'incident' at the protest. It didn't go into details but implied it was violent (and, of course, denied all culpability). I just wanted to check that attendees at the talk today are all OK? I really hope so. I am not a very easily upset person but I feel genuinely gutted at the attempts to shut a debate down by the transactivists.

AltheaThoon · 13/09/2017 20:58

" questioning and theorising over the validity or reality of lived experience IS VIOLENCE, is TRANSPHOBIA and is not acceptable."

Isn't telling women that being female is 'a feeling' kind of denying our lived experiences of being women? Oh, the violence!

Terfing · 13/09/2017 20:04

If harassed, report them for transphobia? After all, you are all transmen, I believe? Smile

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 18:18

Tomorrow

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 18:18

Yes tomaorrow is a good idea.

Good luck Flowers

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/09/2017 18:15

They're going to enormous (though slightly comical, given they couldn't stop themselves from posting it on Facebook) lengths to find out where it is being held so they can (to quote someone on the Fb page calling himself Tara) fuck up some terfs, and yet we're supposed to be the scary violent ones.
They really are as thick as two short planks.

Good luck to those going tonight, I hope it goes without incident.

Look forward to hearing about it tomorrow.

Blanchefleur · 13/09/2017 18:12

I'm glad this is still going ahead. I would come and join you if I lived near London.

The aggressive misogyny is truly horrific. They really are hell-bent on silencing women, aren't they? I find it so scary that women are now having to meet in secret because men want to stop them talking about women's issues. How can any woman actually support this?

Datun · 13/09/2017 18:08

They are calling every pub, conference centre, and venue in the vicinity, trying to find out where the talk is to be held. Pretending to be the organisers to get the info.

It's quite unbelievable.

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 18:07

Not too long ago there was a discussion on another popular forum about the possibility of people being able to change their gender without medical intervention.

There were a couple of posts about how it seemed like a good idea, it was a huge step forward for trans rights, how they didn't understand why people would care because it doesn't affect them, etc.

Another poster then came on and pointed out that wasn't strictly true and gave a few examples of how it could hurt other people. They remained polite and civil. They didn't threaten anyone or call anyone any names. However this poster was still branded a transphobic bigot and an evil TERF and had their words twisted around by other posters to try and make them look bad.

One of the potential problems she brought up was the possibility of men being able to change gender in order to access women in toilets and the like in order to hurt them. Despite making it clear that she was talking about men who wanted to hurt women using the law to their advantage to basically take the piss, she still had people twist her words around to make it sound like she was saying transwomen were all predators and a threat. So what happens on here basically.

Interestingly enough, there was also a transwoman on that thread who didn't think the proposed bill was a good idea and also discussed rationally why they thought that and also pointed out that it was open to abuse. The people yelling TERF at the previous poster though didn't really engage with the transwoman though; they mostly just ignored them. So again pretty much what happens on here when a transwoman shows up.

I am yet to see a so-called TERF threatening anyone or hurting anyone yet I see them accused of it all the time. I do see lots of threats from transacrivists towards TERF's though, apparently as a result of being pushed to their limits by all those so-called mean TERF's. Pushed to their limits of what though? Groups of women wanting to meet and talk about issues that affect them? Why is that so threatening to anyone? They're not hurting anyone by simply meeting up and having a discussion.

Anlaf · 13/09/2017 17:53

Icymi, this is the Anti terf fb protest linky by action for trans health m.facebook.com/events/1587662274631984/?

Datun · 13/09/2017 17:50

We could always start another thread tomorrow, with the results. It will still show them up, but would lessen the danger.

busyboysmum · 13/09/2017 17:46

Honestly I haven't seen any feminists sink to their level. Any discussion I have seen has been reasoned intelligent and compassionate.

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 17:45

That facebook page clearly shows why we must fight against having such aggressive violent people in women's private spaces. They are terrifying in their hatred of women.

And people call us bigots when we don't want them near us. Pfft.

busyboysmum · 13/09/2017 17:45

It needs to be out in the open. Discussed. People need to be told about what is happening because the mainstream media sure ain't covering it.

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 17:44

Do you think it's a good idea to have a thread about this on another topic where more people will see it? I'm thinking that it might make more people realise that it's not us who are the violent aggressive ones and might make more people aware of what we're dealing with here? But then again, more people will see it...

Anlaf · 13/09/2017 17:43

they also need to look up the meaning of bigot.

SNORT

And I quoth:

a person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions.

ArcheryAnnie · 13/09/2017 17:41

Yeah, well, we all know about Kennedy...
