"Trans activists raised issues with the piece, suggesting it was attempting to link the convicted prisoner’s crimes to their gender identity – leaning on the irrational belief that transgender people are actually lying to gain some sort of benefit. The implication is then transgender people are more likely to be rapists – though the reverse is actually true."
WickedLazy "Why can the rest of the civilised world, not see these wolves in sheeps' clothing for what they are?"
Wolves in sheep's clothing...
I don't know; it's an education coming in this forum. My whole understanding of post war progressive liberal morality (or however you'd like to refer to it) was based on the idea of not dehumanising groups of people, on not using specific and extreme examples of individual behaviour to cast aspersions on a wider class.
Maybe post-Brexit and post-Trump, I'm very sensitive to these things. Maybe I'm overly-worried about divisions in society and hatred. But, I just can't believe that people can gather together on a forum - that is dedicated to rights!!! - and blithely start using phrases like 'wolves in sheep's clothing'. ... and please don't anyone defend this by saying that the person in question IS a wolf in sheep's clothing. The difference between the singular and the plural is bloody obvious.
Yeah, so sorry WickedLazy but I don't think I can include you with what I know as the civilised world.
