Women's urinals?!

I don't think I could pee standing up. Is this for women or men? I also would not feel safe with my trousers round my knees and my bum out in a public place.

Assigned you made me laugh out loud. I had the same reaction reading this earlier today....what was the fuck was the inventor smokin'

Slimthistime · 12/08/2017 20:17

OP " it seems to me have not been designed for biological women"

Exactly. In reality we are probably not even meant to discuss this, but what with the word "woman" having lost meaning.....

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 12/08/2017 13:06

Can you imagine elderly women wanting to do that ffs.

Not necessarily an elderly crowd but this thread keeps suggesting to me a mental picture of the ladies loos at The Royal Opera House being replaced with these. Highly implausible !

AssignedMentalAtBirth · 12/08/2017 12:58

Can't imagine pre-op Transwomen would be too keen showing off their lady dicks either. Or.....?

AssignedMentalAtBirth · 12/08/2017 12:56

Am I getting this right - you will have to have your trousers at your ankles in public while hovering backwards over a urinal, with your fanjo in full view? This is helpful to whom exactly?

And what about changing a tampon/towel?

What kind of fucking idiot invented this. And can we guess if it was a man or a woman? (To be fair, if it was a woman, she needs her head examined)

Datun · 12/08/2017 12:49

I agree it won't take off. Can you imagine elderly women wanting to do that ffs.

The most irritating part is they simply have not listened to women and what they need from a lavatory.

More of them, and more space in them.

Although I don't know what the solution would be to not wanting to park your bum on the seat.

Didn't they invent a loo a while ago that had automated loos seats? When you'd used the loo, the seat would slot into the wall, for cleaning, and the second one would come out for the next person.

demirose87 · 12/08/2017 12:02

It's the privacy issue that makes it a no for me. Also women's toilet needs are more complex than men's so we shouldn't be palmed off with male- like faciliities. I don't think this idea will ever take off though.

Datun · 12/08/2017 11:33

So it's just a toilet that's tilted? Angled to make squatting work better?

I suppose they may have listened to the many women who squat instead of sit. And then tried to design something around that concept.

But squatting is the solution to the problem of not wanting to sit on the loo seat. It's certainly not the way most women like to go to the toilet. And doesn't solve the problem.

Having to squat is the problem. Not the solution!

Puffpaw · 12/08/2017 11:21

Thanks for everyone's responses, glad it is not just me that thinks the concept is totally bonkers!

vestal of course it denies women's biology - we don't have penises we can point and piss? It is much harder to aim with normal female anatomy especially at the beginning and end. Plus women can be prone to leakages in a way men just aren't, especially after childbirth. This whole idea is ridiculous and it seems to me have not been designed for biological women but as part of this creeping erosion of women's space with gender neutral loos.

There are definitely improvements that could be made regarding women's public toilets, but this hover toilet is unlikely to be one of them.

Once I had to use a squat toilet in China whilst wearing a longish evening dress, tights, high shoes. I still have nightmares about the logistics of trying to hold my bag, maintain my balance whilst keeping the dress off the floor, all the time attempting to minimize my time in the toilet because I was aware my suede stilettos were absorbing floor fluids - aaaaaaaagh!

TitaniasCloset · 12/08/2017 10:48

Lass I get that dream too!

Guy in article says women waste more water because they can flush up to three times when they use the loo. That's probably to flush away blood or because women would be more embarrassed leaving anything behind in the loo, which I see as a good thing.

Did they talk to any actual women while designing these things?

AssassinatedBeauty · 12/08/2017 10:39

Using a she-wee or similar with trousers assumes that you have an openable fly, presumably? If you have trousers that don't have a fly, or leggings or similar, then you'd have to pull down the whole front area which would be pretty exposing.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 12/08/2017 10:37

I am so confused
How do you use these if you don't wear skirts or dresses?

I think there are 2 versions. The one in the link I posted is basically a pared down loo but with no lid , cubicle or partition. If you are wearing a dress, use it in exactly the same way as a loo and your dress covers your front. If you are wearing trousers , the same but it means you are openly naked from waist down.

The other version seems to be one you stand and face. They only work if you have a she wee. She wees need to be held in place by tucking them into front of trousers and are useless for skirt wearers.

AssassinatedBeauty · 12/08/2017 10:36

Apparently she-wees are made out of a water repellent plastic so you can just shake them off and they're basically dry almost straightaway.

Slimthistime · 12/08/2017 10:30

Oh so how do the women's urinals at Glastonbury work?

I'm fine with regular toilets anyway, I can use those very quickly. Anyone who isn't able to use them quickly needs a cubicle.

Don't most men's have a couple of cubicles? I am so confused.

Are these toilets really meant for a different group?

MissMoneyPlant · 12/08/2017 10:22

I've also used squat toilets and they are better than this. Easier to actually squat than hover. Thinking about it, I don't think I'm physically capable of relaxing my pelvic floor/bladder enough to pee whilst also hovering in that position. Confused

It makes no sense at all - what is the point? They've basically designed a worse version of what we currently have!

BaliBound They have women's urinals at Glastonbury. They're a little tricky to get used to but convenient if you don't want to queue for ages.

What makes them convenient? Simpy that there's not a queue? In which case just have more normal female loos!

Random question about shewees - what about loo roll? Cleaning the shewee?

demirose87 · 12/08/2017 10:09

They are completely pointless because you would also need to have the option of a toilet in a closed cubicle just like they do in the mens, because someone might need a poo, change a tampon or might have a small child that can't reach the urinal etc. So they would have to get rid of half the toilets to make room for the urinals. I can't see anyone wanting to use one of these unless they are more private. That just means longer queues for the lesser amount of toilets.

robinia · 12/08/2017 09:56

I don't get what problem these urinals are intending to solve.
They certainly won't make it any quicker which I presume is the main aim of the men's urinals.

ScarletForYa · 12/08/2017 09:49

She-wee's.

ScarletForYa · 12/08/2017 09:48

Total nonsense, for all the reasons mentioned above.

AND, they mention it'll save water, but what about the waste of thousands of disposable cardboard she-she's ?!!

They'd do better to just use the money they're wasting here on improving the size of women's cubicles so that you don't have to limbo backwards over the toilet in the struggle to close the door due to lack of space.

In most cubicles you have to squash against the toilet and sanitary bin to just close the door. It's even worse if you have a child with you.

Then you sit down and the sanitary bin encroaches into your leg space.

I'd rather see a bit of thought put into the functionality of the existing design.

No way am I ever going to use one of those things. Especially not in front of others. It's like a bad dream. Those bad dreams about toilets.

ChrisPrattsFace · 12/08/2017 09:45

I do not want a line of people watching me pee squat.
I do not want to make eye contact with a stranger while trying not to piss on my trousers and/or ruin my dignity thank you very much Grin

Albadross · 12/08/2017 09:43

@LassWiTheDelicateAir I have that EXACT dream! Usually I wake up needing a wee...

FlaviaAlbia · 12/08/2017 09:39

powershowerforanhour I want a wee not a quadriceps workout thanks

GrinGrinGrin

So, ideally you need to be wearing a dress that has fabric managable enough so you can hold or tuck it, no knickers, have no bags or small children because at least in a cubical they can't wander off or try to give you a running commentary on the other users and have perfected the shake to dry manoeuvre (which will be doubly important to get right due to the no knickers thing).

Flimp is spot on

BluePheasant · 12/08/2017 09:37

Ffs when is all this nonsense going to end? I just don't even know what to say.
