I am Jazz is a reality show focusing on the journey of a teenage transgirl/woman whos parents supported transition from aged 5 and has been on TV since aged 6.
Now aged 16.

I don't watch the show as I strongly disagree with everything about it. However I briefly saw a clip of the next episode as the tv happened to be on the channel that airs I am Jazz I had been watching say yes to the dress and it was about dating.

Jazz goes to a sort of speed dating event where everyone is sat in the dark. Jazz wants a relationship, which is normal for a teenager however Jazz does not tell the boys/men that they are trans and in fact male.
As they are in darkness Jazz feels that if they get to know each other without the barrier of seeing each other/being trans it may lead to a relationship.

For me this is totally wrong.
Why should it be ok for Jazz or anyone to withold the truth about a very important aspect of who they are?
Plus I would imagine there to be some very upset and angry teenage boys when they find out they have been duped and lied to.

I remember a good few years ago where a man killed his partner after finding out on a TV show that they were trans. There have been a few similar murders over the years.
I am in no way condoning the murder or harm of another person I am just highlighting the danger that can come if you lie about the sex you are and it should not be encouraged as no relationship can survive on lies.

I just wondered what other peoples thoughts are on the subject of lying about your sex to the people you date?

Schade..I might be wrong ,but I understand that if she stops the hormone blockers she can go through male puberty? I was sure that was in one of the programmes...therefore if she realised she was male she could go back...it's very confusing...and if I'm honest it's not what I would of done as a parent..yeah I would of said what pretzel said ,you are male. But dress as you like...but then I'm not walking in their shoes so I don't know

AdalindSchade · 05/08/2017 15:57

The family though - I haven't watched a full episode but I watched the clip above where jazz comes out of surgery. One of jazz's brothers deliberately and unnecessarily points out that it says M on the medical bracelet. There was no need for this other than for the TV crew to pick up on them all being 'outraged' for jazz.
Not to mention the pretty important point that Jazz was having surgery on their male body and god forbid if there were complications the doctors would need to know jazz was male not female fgs

EezerGoode · 05/08/2017 15:53

Actually that last comment pretzels,I do agree with...I blame the doctors...

CosmicPineapple · 05/08/2017 15:53

Maybe the spin of the show has sucked you in. This thread has some great links and information about the facts of Jazz's transition not just what the tv shows you. I urge you to have a look then decide if the parents and doctors are doing right by Jazz.

Jazz was allowed to be called a girl from age 6. Don't you think that by letting jazz pretend to be a girl and by encouraging everyone else to pretend jazz was a girl they created the situation whereby jazz couldn't see themselves as a boy any longer?
Jazz wanted long hair and swimming costumes and other girly things. Jazz's parents could have allowed them to be a little boy who wears girly things and has long hair and enforced with love and care the TRUTH that jazz was a boy but that it is fine for boys to like long hair and dolls.
They had a feminine little boy who would probably have grown up to be a gay man. Now they have a sexless, infertile 'girl' who will never have the choice to go back to being a boy and will also never be a fully created 'woman'.
Jazz's identity as a girl has been affirmed by the whole world from such a young age that jazz never had a choice to be accepted and to accept themselves as a boy. Of course jazz thinks of themselves as a girl; just like a child who is taught religion from age 6 will think of themselves as a Christian or whatever. They never had the opportunity to become a healthy, sexually functioning man.

Icantreachthepretzels · 05/08/2017 15:51

But what if she wanted to become a cat? would they have implanted whiskers and called her 'Tibbles'? she can no more be a woman than she can be a cat. You can't make the impossible possible, no matter how much you love your children. What they should have done is act in her best interests, wait and see, encourage her to be herself, get counselling to help her accept her body if needed, and explained reality - she can have surgery to become a facsimile of a woman, but she can't be a woman, and she will never have the life of a normal woman. It is never better to lie to your child about reality.

EezerGoode · 05/08/2017 15:51

Ok pretzels.you make good points...I don't know enough about it to argue back.sorry.im just a mum watching a programme and trying to make sense of it ..as in a parent doing their best for their child..

CosmicPineapple · 05/08/2017 15:51

you do when it's your child.you move heaven and earth for them

I agree but I would not lie to them. Mutilate their body or destroy any normal happy future they could have had. Would you?

My 11yo DC is repulsed by anything sex related, so if I was having a conversation with him about transitioning and told him that he would never have a satisfactory sex life he wouldn't think that that was a problem, because according to him he isn't going to do it except for maybe to have two babies.... Grin

My point is that he isn't mature enough to understand what the sacrifice would actually be, and legally he isn't deemed mature enough to make decisions about his own health (such as whether to have a vaccination) or indeed his own actions in many cases. He certainly isn't mature enough to make a decision that carries such lasting ramifications. That's why I as a parent shoudl be advocating for him and ensuring that everything done to him is in his best interests.

CosmicPineapple · 05/08/2017 15:48

What would you call it?

This child has had hormones pumped in to them, had their whole traumatic journey played out on tv for the world to see and had a normal life taken away from them when at no point have they been old enought to vonsent or understand the implications.
That is abuse. The parents have abused their position as decision makers for a minor.

EezerGoode · 05/08/2017 15:47

If she really really believes she's female, ofcourse the parents will want to help her..you do when it's your child.you move heaven and earth for them

AssassinatedBeauty · 05/08/2017 15:46

Since this child was 3 they've been told they can change sex and become a woman, and that this is what is going to be the right thing for them. I wonder what would have happened if they had been told, gently and kindly, that they are absolutely fine to do whatever they want to do, look how they want, play how they want, but that they cannot change sex.

Icantreachthepretzels · 05/08/2017 15:46

I've watched a fair bit of I am jazz....to me she seems very sure she is female..it must be utterly devastating to have the body of a man ,but know you are meant to be female...I know I'm female..I would be devestated to have a male body, because I'm female...imagine being you..but when you look down it's a males body..when in yr head yr female..how would you feel??

I would hate to have a male body, I can quite understand men who have terrible sex dismorphia because i shudder at the thought of being shapeless and hairy and having a penis. However, had I been born that way it would probably never occur to me to feel badly about it, it would just be my body and if it worked properly I'd be very happy with it. I don't want to be male because I know I'm female. I know i'm female because I am.

Jazz, however 'knows she's female' because she has been told she is since she was 6, far too young to understand the complications and realities of what she was getting into, and perfectly trusting of the people who were meant to love, protect and look out for her (her parents). Had they not pushed (or even just gone along with) this narrative that Jazz was a girl, would she still feel female today? What does that even mean? How does she feel female when she isn't? How does she know? I don't 'feel' female, i just am.

..then suddenly doctors are saying they can help you get a female body..who wouldn't take that chance....I would if I'd been born with a penis ,as I know I'm female...

you know you're female because you are. If you were male the chances are you would have been perfectly happy with that and would have known you were male. Even if you didn't like your body, you still couldn't know you were female, because you would have no idea what that would be like.

I don't feel sorry for jazz...I feel hopeful the doctors can help her, become her true self, even if that means a part of her bowel for a vagina,..if it stops her from committing suicide, and makes her happy ...who are we to judge??

I don't think Jazz's or anyone's true self involves possessing a fuck hole made out of colon. I don't know what the source is, but I've seen stats posted on this board that say after surgery contentment does not increase and suicides don't go down. Half of the content of 'I am Jazz' is documenting how unhappy she is, so transition doesn't seem to be working in that respect. I don't judge her, but all the people making money out of her when they should be protecting her? Yep I judge them quite harshly.

EezerGoode · 05/08/2017 15:45

Why do you say abuse

CosmicPineapple · 05/08/2017 15:45

The parents went to the doctors. They pushed for it. Doctors could not have prescribed PB for a child witjout parental consent.
Jazz is a money making scheme and i wish somebody would have stopped the abuse of this child Sad

Maybe the doctors are at fault here...maybe ..just because you can do something dosnt mean you should...I wonder what would of happened if the puberty blockers were not available, and the operations not available in the future...from watching the program,I got the feeling her parents love her very much.and it can't of been easy for the family

CosmicPineapple · 05/08/2017 15:40

and become a female

You can never become female.
You are born male or female.
A very small % are born intersex but you can never go fro Xx to XY or XY o XX.

The filming thing is dreadful. We already have countless examples of 'child stars' going off the rails or having mental problems, and Jazz is already mentally fragile and vulnerable to start with. She's on medication for depression, someone a few posts back says she has crippling social anxiety. Whatever the long term outcome to this experiment (and I hope for Jazz's sake it turns out well), it's going to be hard to disentangle the effects of the public exposure from the medical procedures.

EezerGoode · 05/08/2017 15:38

I know pineapple.but if they hadn't stoped them she would of had facial hair and Adam's apple and gone through make puberty....what's worse...which ever way you look at it it's not going to be perfect..she looks more female with having had the blockers..but now as the penis hasn't grown they haven't enough skin to work with for a vagina..

CosmicPineapple · 05/08/2017 15:38

I dont think any of what Jazz's parents have done is in Jazz's best interest tbh not just the filming Confused

EezerGoode · 05/08/2017 15:35

Sorry..not sure..the filming thing is good I mean

EezerGoode · 05/08/2017 15:34

I have yes...I've watched most of the I am jazz programs so yes she's left with a very small penis ,not enough to make a vagina out of..and no sexual feelings..but that's still better than being male for her...it's difficult because I'm sure the whole filming thing is in jazzs best interests..but I do think it must of been a very difficult decision for the parents to make to allow her to take the puberty blockers and become a female

CosmicPineapple · 05/08/2017 15:30

Ezer
Judgement from me us aimed at the parents. They have encouraged and coerced Jazz in to ruining their future.
Jazz will never have the body they want because the parents stopped natural development of Jazz's body which would, if Jazz had wantd allowed doctors to preform bottom surgery.
They also allowed a child to live a lie. Now Jazz will grow to learn that they will never be female and never have a fuffilling "normal" sex life.

Have you read the full thread and the reality of what happens to young bodies @EezerGoode Confused

I'm not happy for people like that - no orgasms, no good sex, no romantic love, no trying for a baby, none of some of the best times of my life. All because as a small child you liked playing with dolls and having long hair, and no one said "wait till you've gone through puberty and we'll tackle it then with you".

That page is fucking awful.
