I am Jazz is a reality show focusing on the journey of a teenage transgirl/woman whos parents supported transition from aged 5 and has been on TV since aged 6.
Now aged 16.

I don't watch the show as I strongly disagree with everything about it. However I briefly saw a clip of the next episode as the tv happened to be on the channel that airs I am Jazz I had been watching say yes to the dress and it was about dating.

Jazz goes to a sort of speed dating event where everyone is sat in the dark. Jazz wants a relationship, which is normal for a teenager however Jazz does not tell the boys/men that they are trans and in fact male.
As they are in darkness Jazz feels that if they get to know each other without the barrier of seeing each other/being trans it may lead to a relationship.

For me this is totally wrong.
Why should it be ok for Jazz or anyone to withold the truth about a very important aspect of who they are?
Plus I would imagine there to be some very upset and angry teenage boys when they find out they have been duped and lied to.

I remember a good few years ago where a man killed his partner after finding out on a TV show that they were trans. There have been a few similar murders over the years.
I am in no way condoning the murder or harm of another person I am just highlighting the danger that can come if you lie about the sex you are and it should not be encouraged as no relationship can survive on lies.

I just wondered what other peoples thoughts are on the subject of lying about your sex to the people you date?

And talked a lot about the romantic princess type stuff

AncientRain · 03/08/2017 16:50

I only saw that one episode but it wasn't mentioned at all
Jazz friends were trans. It all seemed so boring spending their time dreaming about Mr Right and body issues
I wanted to scream at them to live

Datun · 03/08/2017 16:32

Can anyone who has watched the programme tell me whether gender dysphoria is mentioned much?

theporcinegrappler · 03/08/2017 16:31

I agree with this:
'This poor child is being exploited and experimented on, and it's just wrong. I genuinely feel this is child abuse, akin to Munchaussen's by proxy'

and this:

' before all this was a fashionable 'thing', Jazz most likely would have grown into an effeminate gay teenager - absolutely nothing wrong with that - and grown into gay sexuality during adolescence with a dating pool of men finding Jazz very attractive and physically perfect exactly as is'

CosmicPineapple · 03/08/2017 16:31

Transing children is child abuse. Angry

When I was prescribed HRT, the GP went on for ages about how it could only be prescribed for a short time and the risk of cancer etc etc,

yet children much much younger will be on these hormones for LIFE. And nobody really knows what impact they will have on their bodies.

Datun · 03/08/2017 16:10

God, I know way too much about this shit confused

I, for one, am glad you do!

When you consider that cakes are being baked for children to have a trans coming-out party, it kind of shits all over the concept of it being something to celebrate.

It's often billed as, variously, brave, courageous, aspirational, celebratory and of course, authentic...

Scrumplestiltskin · 03/08/2017 16:02

The thigh doesn't self lubricate, and leaves a nasty scar on the spot it's taken from, and I believe has even less sensation than the colon. It also takes longer to heal and has more potential to have complications Confused
On the other hand, the colon produces too much mucus, has a weird (gross, tbh) odour, and has its own complications also. It's gone out of style amongst trans people these days, and the sort where the scrotum makes up the cavity, and the penile skin the external part, with a glans as a pseudo clitoris, is preferred by most, followed by penile inversion.
The neoclitoris is made from the glans, yeah. But generally it seems that if one was not orgasmic before surgery, one will definitely not be afterwards, what with the reduced amount of tissue that can be stimulated, and the potential nerve damage. Which means Jazz is unlikely to ever orgasm.
God, I know way too much about this shit Confused

If Jazz doesn't have a libido, I'm assuming that what he doesn't know about, he won't miss.

That's from his own personal perspective. But I completely agree, that intellectually, he will understand and I shouldn't imagine will be very happy about it.

JessicaEccles · 03/08/2017 15:35

But these parents have effectively let their child be castrated, ended his/her sex life before it even began. condemned them to a life of dangerously high hormones and further surgery.

How will Jazz fell about this when s/he is older? I hope s/he sues their rotten manipulative assess off.

Datun · 03/08/2017 15:33

and a young choir boy is castrated to preserve his wonderful singing voice.

That is true, historically. It was made illegal in 1870.

And thanks for keeping the thread on topic and not going down the angry trans thread route. smile

I am very angry. About the ideology in general. But I see no merit in a slanging match about it.

The problem with the ideology (as it has become) is that it's a belief system. If you believe it, you believe that what has happened to Jazz is a natural extension of it.

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 03/08/2017 15:32

To answer a PP's question, there is debate about whether thigh or colon is better to use but as a colon is an internal organ it has properties that make it more suitable in some ways than thigh tissue.

The other thing that is frequently overlooked is that the scarring caused by operating in such a sensitive area can in itself cause further loss of sensation (in the neo clitoris) and further more can lead to permanent pain if surgery doesn't go well or indeed from any number of post surgery complications.

CosmicPineapple · 03/08/2017 15:29

Thank you to all who have posted. The very informative links/info have made me believe even stronger my stance on not transitioning children is right.

And thanks for keeping the thread on topic and not going down the angry trans thread route. Smile

The more I have read about Jazz on this thread the more i feel they have been let down and used as a cash cow and exhibit at a freak show. The parents should be ashamed and held accountable for the life they have pushed Jazz to lead.

The other night it came to me what this all reminds me of: Kingsley Amis wrote a very strange but haunting little book called 'The Alteration' set in a future where the Reformation never happened and a young choir boy is castrated to preserve his wonderful singing voice.

stargirl1701 · 03/08/2017 15:24

My heart is breaking for this child. The facts are startling and chilling. Poor child.

Datun · 03/08/2017 15:22

Sorry and what is a 'neoclitoris' made from, if not the head of the penis? Would that have any sexual function?

Sorry to bombard you with questions. It's actually quite hard to find unbiased information online.

Datun · 03/08/2017 15:19

Scrumplestiltskin

If they are able to use skin from the thigh, do you know why they would ever use part of the colon instead?

honeysucklejasmine · 03/08/2017 15:11

Bacterial vaginosis (not sure on spelling) which is an infection.

WhichJob · 03/08/2017 15:10

Thanks, this is an informative thread.

MineKraftCheese · 03/08/2017 15:09

@WhichJob bacterial vaginosis

WhichJob · 03/08/2017 15:04

What is BV?

Scrumplestiltskin · 03/08/2017 14:57

I would assume it is for Jazz so she can have the body that she has always wanted....a woman's body

Any "neovaginal" cavity will either be made out of constantly mucus producing colon tissue, which has a unique...odour, or, out of the flesh of Jazz's thigh.
The "neoclitoris" sometimes necrotises and falls off in surgeries that use such methods, (as opposed to penile inversion,) which is why at least one doctor who does these surgeries, adds what is essentially a "back up neoclitoris" which Jazz does not have the amount of penile tissue for.
They will have to dilate daily for many years, and will unlikely ever experience genital sexual pleasure, being as their genitals will be constructed from prepubescent penis and scrotum, (of which they apparently have very little,) as well as colon, or penis, scrotum, and thigh skin.
Their neovagina's normal state, bacterially, will most closely resemble that of a woman with BV.
Their breasts are abnormally developed (tuberous,) so they will eventually likely have surgery on those, and they are sterile, depressed, isolated due to their unique issues, and all of this is irreversible.
It's terribly, terribly sad, and I think the worst thing about it is that the adults in Jazz's life have groomed them into it from the age of 5, under the guise of "helping." The people who should have protected Jazz, have led them into a position where Jazz is depressed, in a body that will never function normally, and due to irreversible biological changes and financial reasons, is unable to change their mind Sad

I agree. But the spin is so effective that people are not dismantling any of this.

People watch the show. They may or may not come away feeling uneasy. But when you actually point out the enormity of what has happened to Jazz, there's a slight disconnect.

What they've seen somehow doesn't quite correlate with the reality, even when they know it. Until a small mind shift takes place.

It's actually rather chilling.

aginghippy · 03/08/2017 13:56

Her parents should be looking out for her mental health and this level of scrutiny isn't helpful.

Nobody is protecting Jazz in any way. It's exploitation of a vulnerable child. The parents are making money, as are the TV companies.

Datun · 03/08/2017 13:45

MizK

We will have to disagree. I don't think an 11-year-old boy is capable of asserting with any degree of autonomy that he wants a 'woman's body'. Neither has he got one.

When I said a receptacle for a penis, that's exactly what I meant.

Apart from the biological function , a woman with a vagina (and clitoris) will usually experience sexual pleasure.

Jazz will have nothing to sexually stimulate.

By no stretch of the imagination has Jazz 'become a woman'.
