Jeremy Corbyn speaks about trans rights

Haven't posted on this board before but I do read it often - sorry if I get the link wrong.

www.theguardian.com/society/2017/jul/19/let-trans-people-self-identify-gender-corbyn-urges-may

So do we need to remind Jeremy Corbyn that while supporting all minorities is important, it should NOT be bought at the price of women's rights being eroded and women's funding being cut and women's spaces being invaded?

A while back, I wrote to my MP about that private members' bill changing 'sex' to 'gender' as a protected characteristic, but he didn't reply (third time! useless!) - what is happening with that?

I am going to write again to my MP and maybe Corbyn too.

What do people think? I don't dislike Corbyn at all, And I honestly do wonder if it is a bit of trans rights being much more fashionable than women's rights!

(Please note I do not want to offend anyone, I just am worried about the rights of women and girls in our society today.)

datun I'm not convinced the groups I'm thinking of have all got that far in their reasoning yet. Not because they all lack the ability to think, more the opportunity. They're mainly on nmw zero hour contracts or benefits so there is no pay gap in their experience, and surviving day to day takes precedence over the luxury of discussion. A highly skilled female on a salary they would kill for eclipses the fact an equally skilled male is paid more, they have bigger fish to fry like making sure the electric isn't cut off. Ditto for other feminist causes. But you can't really miss trans in the media, and unlike some aspects of feminism, it's easier for them to see the direct impact on their daily lives.

RogueBiscuit · 21/07/2017 17:53

Holy fuck, that video.

OlennasWimple · 21/07/2017 17:32

I think that there are a significant number of people who will object to TRA messages about lady dicks and chest feeding because they themselves like gender stereotyping. I'm thinking about the fundamental Christians who believe that God created a man and a woman for procreation and gay sex is an absolute sin, for example. If you believe this, thinking that God got it wrong by putting the wrong brain into the wrong body is blasphemy (God does not err). Women's ability to bear children is an important part of their identity. Women must be protected from men who might threaten them. Women can never hope to emulate a man, in some cases even wearing trousers or having short hair is completely verboten.

TRAs are creating all sort of unlikely and uncomfortable alliances...

Elendon · 21/07/2017 17:15

That video is horrendous. Strong content note needed. I feel sick after watching it. (Had to do it in two parts, my hard radical feminist edge isn't strong enough)

Datun · 21/07/2017 15:58

RogueBiscuit

This is the second of the two films. This one features active TRAs who can in no way be called pretend.

Together with a screenshot of part of the introduction.

Jeremy Corbyn speaks about trans rights
RogueBiscuit · 21/07/2017 15:44

No, I haven't seen the second video.

Datun · 21/07/2017 15:05

RogueBiscuit

I'm raging on your behalf.

Did you post the video that came out after the original one? It was as a result of everyone saying those people aren't really trans.

Every single person in the second video had not only declared themselves as a trans for a significant amount of time, they were often in a position where they were representing trans rights.

Quite hard to disregard those people.

And anyway it only reinforces the argument. All these criminals, whether trans or not, will have unfettered access to potential victims - because of self identification.

And effectively putting paid to the other argument that no man in his right mind would pretend to be trans in order to commit a crime.

Sometimes I think I'm going cross-eyed with the amount of goalpost moving that goes on.

RogueBiscuit · 21/07/2017 13:57

Facebook said they have disabled my account due to suspicious activity. It's still disabled now.

I got sick of hearing how harmless transwoman are, how they're all the nicest person you could hope to meet. Have they met every single one? I posted some links about some of the crimes that have happened. Every one was quick to state these people are NOT transgender. Very odd that they say this when they are supporting self identification because obviously anyone who says they're a woman just is,end of.. Also, as I understand it, it is violence to misgender someone. I suppose that makes them um, well bigots and transphobes. The hypocrosy of trans dictating who is trans and who is not.

As you know the official story is that no trans person has ever attacked anyone ever. I think I got the boot for posting links to the ever growing violence and sexual assaults.

Datun · 21/07/2017 00:12

Sorry, I'm so used to writing misogyny, I sometimes forget that it is hating women, and I add that as well!

Datun · 21/07/2017 00:11

Lurkedforever1

Interesting. Thanks for the answer. It all boils down to whether not you truly believe that a brain can be gendered. A lady brain.

Or whether you think it's an unfortunate condition, much like anorexia.

If you get into a conversation online of course, it doesn't matter what you think, you just come out with the conclusion that they're all raving, steeped in misogyny and hate women.

Lurkedforever1 · 21/07/2017 00:04

datun I'd like to say the latter but I think a bit of both. In a few cases I suspect it's small mindedness at anyone different rather than genuine concern about the dangers.

However, even in that group there's huge respect for the likes of womens refuges, and genuine fear of transwomen taking that away. Plus not wanting men in their daughters spaces. The gender stereotyping isn't interpreted the same as I would, more 'my daughter can be a tomboy and grow into makeup and finding a man to support her later' but the essence is still there.

There's also plenty who just haven't noticed/cared, who have suddenly woke up and drawn a line in the sand. They don't care about gender roles at home, don't see the issues with pay gap, don't care about casual sexism, but trans is another ball game, for all the same reasons any radical feminist would object.

I think most feminism has by passed their notice, but trans is prominent enough they've had to notice.

Datun · 20/07/2017 22:56

That's interesting Lurkedforever1. And reassuring.

Do you see a theme with those friends, at all? Are they just fed up with the millennial 57 different gender/pronoun nonsense?

Or is it more to do with predatory men and the reinforcement of gender stereotypes?

Lurkedforever1 · 20/07/2017 22:41

I think the tide is still turning. I know and speak to lots of women who do not remotely identity as feminists on many issues or indeed in everyday life. And are often scathing about feminism in general. Either through ignorance of the issues or because they don't see them as issues. And yet they are more in line with radical feminism on trans issues, despite having opinions on equality that would be more suited to 1950.

Bloody hell. What a mess.

(Surely unethical the doctor being a cousin of Jazz's mum?).

I would've thought so. Especially being in America when he would be being paid for all this. Not to mention the publicity.

So very many people invested in Jazz toeing the line.

OlennasWimple · 20/07/2017 22:27

I feel desperately sorry for Jazz. Having a mini-me doll and a TV series is no substitute for being a fully functioning adult able to form mature relationships, is it. Echoes of Michael Jackson to my mind, and look how well he turned out Hmm

Datun · 20/07/2017 22:24

QueenLaBeefah

I'm not sure how this works, and to be honest I don't think anyone else does either. This is guinea pig time.

So as a boy his puberty was delayed. He had cross sex hormones which gave him breasts, a more rounded figure and a higher voice. But did nothing to his genitals except kept them prepubescent.

The puberty blockers would have been given three months into puberty. There is a scale (Tanner) and hormones are measured to make sure it's the right time, so possibly between the ages of 11 and 13.

But I have no idea whether the cross sex hormones would have allowed his brain to mature, unlike his genitalia. I have read articles that says the brain can't mature because of the puberty blockers, though.

For surgery, they take the head of the penis and turn it into their version of a clitoris. But as the head of his penis hasn't been allowed to develop, I'm assuming that's where the sexual function is being called compromised.

I'm not sure he even wants the surgery. I don't watch the program, just read articles. But what would the surgery give him? A hole to be fucked with no enjoyment?

Which has to be dilated for the rest of his life, to prevent it closing up.

And yes, from the clips I have seen where he is talking to the doctor (a cousin of the mother), it seemed to come as a surprise to him.

What a mess.

QueenLaBeefah · 20/07/2017 22:12

If Jazz hasn't been through puberty then she won't have a sex drive. She is going to struggle to find a boyfriend and again why wasn't this bloody explained? And if she is so immature that she can't use her imagination about what men see when having sex then not going through puberty might explain her naivety.

Datun · 20/07/2017 22:07

QueenLaBeefah

What crushes me is that Jazz won't know what she has missed in terms of a sex life. She may not have much of a reaction to it.

QueenLaBeefah · 20/07/2017 22:00

Give it 5/10 yrs and we'll start seeing a lot of grown up trans children suing the arse off various experts.

DJBaggySmalls · 20/07/2017 21:55

I'm extremely concerned that we are about to move into a time where a significant percentage of a generation has been sterilised and kept in a permanent state of juvenile behaviour.
I cant imagine how this can end well.

QueenLaBeefah · 20/07/2017 21:50

But how old was Jazz when she asked her dad this question? She seems extremely immature. A Hetrosexual man like vaginas - not penises and especially not little boy penises and no amount of campaigning is going to change that. Why was this not explained?

BelligerentGardenPixies · 20/07/2017 21:08

Oh yeah, it'll be all the 'transphobic' gender critical feminists who will have ruined her life, not her avaristic parents.

How could her father answer honestly? It would open up the fact that they are lying to her about the realities of her body. Horrid.

Datun · 20/07/2017 20:21

BelligerentGardenPixies

I feel so sorry for that poor child and infuriated that she is being promoted as some kind of poster child.

She is asking her dad how much of a vagina does a man see when you have a sex life with him. He's too embarrassed to answer. She is worried that her vagina won't look right. It's such a childish question.

Um, yes in a regular sex life the man see your vagina! All of it.

She wants to encourage boys to ask her out - I'm just like any other girl. A girl with the penis of a young boy.

She's worried that people will want a physical relationship with her as an 'experiment'.

I'm sure there is a decent chap out there who will love Jazz for who she is. But I'm not at all sure it will be the bronzed, jock she is hoping for.

She has been marketed by her parents, who are coining it. I don't suppose anyone is going to be very much interested in a 30-year-old transwoman who is no longer going to bring in the TV viewings.

Her mum constantly says we only followed her lead. Way to distance yourself from your appalling decisions, you awful woman.

I honestly can't believe people are buying this. If you believe in transgenderism, you absolutely must believe in this.

I predict that her life will not turn out well. And transphobia will be blamed.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 20/07/2017 20:18

Poor, poor Jazz.
Societies have had all kinds of excuses for mutilating boys, whether religious or musical or whatever. This is the latest incarnation.
(Girls get mutilated too, of course, with a different set of justifications.)
