Twitter and where to begin with comments about "terfs"

Hi, I'm just wondering how to deal with it when people I follow on twitter, whose views I normally agree with and respect, post things about "terfs" and transphobia. As in, is it worth engaging? What can you actually say in 140 characters that could make them think about it more critically when they're clearly at the liberal knee jerk automatic support for transactivism stage?

Its a general question although prompted by something specific yesterday. Someone retweeted comments from people who'd criticised the Mya Byrne "i punch terfs" t.shirt post, calling them transphobic. And there were comments below that in reply to them, mocking the term 'gender critical' as being similar to something the KKK would say about race.

Anyway, I ended up unfollowing the person without saying anything in response to their tweets because I didn't really know where to begin and didn't have the emotional energy to engage properly. It's bothering me that I didn't say anything though and I'm just wondering how other people deal with this kind of thing?

What can you say that might actuallybe constructive as opposed to just registering your disapproval?

But I have no idea how twitter works. I'm old.

Just try it out. (I don't have a twitter account myself, but really, how hard can it be? Most social media are easy to figure out, they wouldn't be used by teens to stupid to correctly identify someone's biological sex, otherwise)

Because people kill other people over the lack of understanding about their gender identity.

No, men kill other people. For all sorts of reasons. It is male violence, and I think even the deluded trans allies know this, deep down.

Male trans wanted to invade Michfest, a festival by women, for women, where men were not allowed.
No person who really fears "terfs" would ever want to go somewhere there he's guaranteed to be surrounded by lots of lesbians and feminists most of whom don't buy his gender identity nonsense.

They do not really fear radical feminists. They just pretend to, and the stupid handmaidens swallow it, hook, line, and sinker, despite how obviously it is not true.

I really want to have a twitter account just to be a back up for all the great 'terfs' on there.

But I have no idea how twitter works. I'm old.

Why is verbal "misgendering" worse than raping a transman? Is it because men also rape men, and raping a transman respects his gender identity, even if it is vaginal rape which he could get pregnant from?

Interesting one. Because the line is that misgingering invalidates a person. And that invalidation leads to their death. Because people kill other people over the lack of understanding about their gender identity. Nothing to do with an irrefutable understanding of their sex.

VestalVirgin · 28/06/2017 11:59

Could you ask them why "TERFs" are their worstest enemy that they have to threaten at all opportunities, when actually, it is men who kill (rather fewer than they TRAs would like to admit) transwomen?
When actually, there is not one known case where a female feminist has ever physically harmed a transwoman?

Why is verbal "misgendering" worse than raping a transman? Is it because men also rape men, and raping a transman respects his gender identity, even if it is vaginal rape which he could get pregnant from?

I'd really like to know that.

(Probably you'll get a bullshit answer, but it'd be interesting to see what lame excuse they come up with)

OP, I'm not on Twitter, but I feel for you, I really do. If you engage with anything other than 100% acceptance, you will get targeted.

The man in question is a violent misogynistic activist. He is a member of the baseball carrying, male lesbian cohort who infiltrate dyke marches.

Aged 40, he wrote a sickening poem about his younger self masturbating into his sister's underwear.

But this will all count for nothing if you misgender him. You will be the bigot.

Thank you, that's brilliant.

And yeah, referencing poor and definitely unprivileged women in 3rd world so they can't just shout "white feminism" in response.

The homophobia and child abuse issues, that is.

You're right butter, that would probably be more thought provoking (for them) than mentioning women's rights.

And regressive and neoliberal. Obsessed with the individual. Totally disinterested in the material welfare of third world women who can't identify out of their oppression.

ALittleBitOfButter · 28/06/2017 11:19

I'd say you find transgender ideology homophobic and abusive to children. Fight fire with fire. Only if you have an anon handle though.
