I can't seem to find it

Erin Pizzey is the MRA poster girl.

Xenophile · 17/05/2017 18:17

When on earth did anyone suggest that a film was a vehicle for anything? I sincerely hope you didn't take my clearly stated opinions about the manosphere to be about this film, because that would be ridiculous.

And yet again, for the people at the back. This board is nothing to do with gender equality, it's about feminism. It says so at the top.

And I suspect you're talking about Erin Pizzey? A woman who repeatedly tweeted out the name of a rape victim because, like most MRAs, she thinks that women consistently lie about rape. She also likes to tell people she opened the first women's shelter, which, while technically correct, wasn't the first place women had found refuge and wasn't the solo effort she would like people to think it was.

She's also completely free to open a men's shelter now, which begs the question of why she hasn't done that, if she thinks it's so important she needs to attack women about it.

SylviaPoe · 17/05/2017 18:17

Okay then OP, you said...

'...it's raised some really important iissues. Can't believe it's ignored.'

What important feminist issues do you think it has raised, that you cannot believe users of the feminist board have ignored.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 17/05/2017 18:15

Is there really an 'animated sequence of falling snowflakes'

I might need to watch it then

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 17/05/2017 18:14

Here’s something Elam wrote on A Voice for Men in 2010: “Should I be called to sit on a jury for a rape trial, I vow publicly to vote not guilty, even in the face of overwhelming evidence that the charges are true.” What excuse would any serious documentarian have for not asking Elam to explain that?

I am not sure i want to watch it...i quite like my telly and dont really want to throw something at it

brexitstolemyfuture · 17/05/2017 18:10

I still think feminism is a better fit than any of those. The film is billed as a feminist film maker that sets out to document the men's right movement and questions feminists. Its main keywords are feminism and feminists.

OP posts:
FerretsAreFeminists · 17/05/2017 18:08

It was made by a feminist and features the feminist that opened the first refuge in the UK. Who was ousted from the organisation by a feminist because she wanted to open a male refuge.

Was that the same feminist who said that a woman self harming and a man hitting someone were the same thing and both equally as violent as each other? Because if so, I think that may have had more to do with her being ousted than wanting to open a male refuge.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 17/05/2017 18:06

Cross post

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 17/05/2017 18:06

We have a film topic as well dont we

Or telly addicts

SylviaPoe · 17/05/2017 18:06

Other boards you might put it on...

film, politics, in the news, chat.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 17/05/2017 18:05

Chat?

brexitstolemyfuture · 17/05/2017 18:05

Fair enough it's not a perfect fit, but is there a more appropriate board?

OP posts:
ChocChocPorridge · 17/05/2017 18:05

As Xenophile said, the feminists I speak to think that MRAs are laughable.

I feel that they are free to spend their time as they wish - albeit I'd prefer that they didn't spend it spreading lies and whining.

I've only seen the trailers, and didn't see any feminists saying Mens rights shouldn't exist - I did see them suggesting that some of these men need to grow up.

Xenophiles last point on her rebuttal needs repeating here:

And despite all of this, getting pregnant in the US is still over four times more dangerous than going to work in the US

You can list combat deaths (ignoring civilian deaths which are roughly equal), murders (overwhelmingly committed by men) - but let us never forget that women risk their lives so those men can exist to spout their misleading stats, and there's no alternative to that.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 17/05/2017 18:05

What sylvia said

Again

SylviaPoe · 17/05/2017 18:03

This isn't a board about gender equality. It's a feminism board!

brexitstolemyfuture · 17/05/2017 18:02

The film is about gender equality, what other board would I expect to see it on?

Xenophile - do you have any sources that state who all the donations were from and the input they had into it?

it's run as a vehicle for a group of violent and abusive men to showcase their hatred of women

Really? Again any sources for this? How is a film run by anyone? It was made by a feminist and features the feminist that opened the first refuge in the UK. Who was ousted from the organisation by a feminist because she wanted to open a male refuge. Why not watch something before speaking mistruths on it?

PoochSmooch · 17/05/2017 18:02

It was funded on kickstarter by all kinds of people and none of them had any say in how the movie was made.

Mmm, not sure that's quite true. I have waded around in some of the shallower puddles of the manosphere, and I know that Paul Elam (for example), certainly thinks that funding this movie was a major blow for MRA against a "biased" mainstream media, as did Milo Y (Milo has an associate producer credit on the film...) Elam tweeted as part of the funding campaign "help fund red pill movie because #fuckfeminists". Pledge drives were held on Reddit in the Men's Rights and the Red Pill sub reds. Who else would have funded it and for what reason?

Cassie Jaye then started cosying up to white supremacists to publicise the film, appearing on Matt Forney's podcast.

Got to pop out for a moment, back later with more...

SylviaPoe · 17/05/2017 17:59

On a totally separate note, the actual red pillers are annoyed that this film is called the Red Pill, because they don't think the topics covered in the film have anything to do with the Red Pill!

I have no time for the Red Pill ideas, but I thought it was interesting that these quite disparate ideologies were being conflated.

Xenophile · 17/05/2017 17:54

I don't think I know any feminists who think the men's rights movement should end. Most of us just know that it's nothing to do with trying to solve the undeniable problems that men have because of toxic masculinity and class based prejudice, it's run as a vehicle for a group of violent and abusive men to showcase their hatred of women.

The men's groups I know of who are actually doing stuff to combat some of those problems will have nothing to do with the manosphere for that reason.

The kickstarter was funded by manosphere fans, and they had enormous input into how the film was edited and the subject matter.

SylviaPoe · 17/05/2017 17:53

ChocolateFuzz, that's now what the OP said. Read the OP's actual description.

And I didn't ask why the OP put this thread here, I asked why the OP expected there to be a thread about it already here when by the OP's own description the film is not about feminism.

I understand why you think this film is a feminist topic, but I was asking the OP based on what the OP had to say about the film.

ChocolateFuzz · 17/05/2017 17:38

AssassinatedBeauty
I'm not sure what you're asking, the feminists in the movie are making their case as to why the men's rights movement shouldn't exist.

PoochSmooch
It was funded on kickstarter by all kinds of people and none of them had any say in how the movie was made.

Xenophile
Well yes, there is one post here I take particular issue with but that wasn't my point. Watch the movie for yourself, it's not hard to find then you won't have to go off the opinion of anyone else.

SylviaPoe
I guess she put it here because it has been very controversial with feminists. The feminists in the movie believe the men's rights movement shouldn't exist and they're arguing their case to that end.

Xenophile · 17/05/2017 17:30

The vast majority of issues impacting on men have nothing whatsoever to do with feminism.

Obviously, but the manosphere likes to pretend that all men's problems are because the world is feminised and that women should sort all those problems out for them, despite women having very little power to do so. It's fascinating really. It means they never ever have to do a damned thing, can keep blaming women for all their shortcomings and keep making money out of the poor schmucks who subsidise their lifestyles by donating to endless "fighting funds".

SylviaPoe · 17/05/2017 17:21

'The director brings up points the MRA's made to feminists and asks them for their opinion.'

Yes, this is what I don't get. The vast majority of issues impacting on men have nothing whatsoever to do with feminism.

PoochSmooch · 17/05/2017 17:21

Why should the OP expect to find it on this board and then say she can't find it?

I wonder

Pretty odd comment, at any rate. Next stop, The Litter Tray, and ask them what they've got against dogs?

SylviaPoe · 17/05/2017 17:17

Chocolate, I never said it shouldn't be here.

The OP has said the film is about a range of men's rights issues and listed them. The film is not primarily about feminism.

Feminists get interviewed and talk about things that have nothing to do with feminism all the time.

So the film could be discussed anywhere on MN. Why should the OP expect to find it on this board and then say she can't find it?
