Keeping national politics out of it. Is this ok to joke about?

Thank you nolove, I hadn't worked that out for myself, it's so lucky you're here to set me straight. I shall never not call myself a leggy beauty again.

Seeing... that idea is so commonplace it's sickening. I'd also challenge anyone who says anything like that to point out to me the part of the brain where these innate qualities are set. I'd very much love to see their evidence for it!

That t-shirt really says "this is what someone trying to get you to vote for me looks like", and goes to show how stupid those t-shirts were. I do get the idea they were trying to get across but it's just so easy for anyone scrapping around for popularity to chuck one on and tick off that demographic from their checklist.

Women going into politics because politicians can wear/afford naice shoes Hmm

Seeingadistance · 10/05/2017 17:55

I've only heard a bit about this from the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2 earlier, and I had to switch it off because I was so pissed off. There was a woman, don't know who she was, making out that women are innately drawn to particular chores!

NoLoveofMine · 10/05/2017 17:54

Well the idea of describing a woman as a "leggy beauty" is sexist in itself in my opinion.

Xenophile · 10/05/2017 17:50

She does say she's a feminist, so there you go. I suppose I could say I was a leggy beauty. That would make both of us liars.

I suspect she wouldn't, either. She certainly doesn't act in feminist ways in my opinion (her policies and actions in government haven't been great for women and she I think said the Daily Mail "legs" headline was "a bit of fun"). It's still disappointing when a woman in such a position comes out with something like this and perpetuates such outdated stereotyping, also feeds into the idea of certain past-times being for "girls" and others for "boys".

AssassinatedBeauty · 10/05/2017 17:26

No, it's very disappointing. But perhaps not surprising. I don't think Theresa May would say she was a feminist.

Xenophile · 10/05/2017 16:28

No, it makes you look like a fucking idiot.

As does repeating a lie about women getting into politics because of some other woman's shoes Hmm

NoLoveofMine · 10/05/2017 16:27

No, it's ridiculous.
