Trans- kids... so many batshit parents? WTAF?

Stuff that i often see on fb is beyond disturbing.

People are transing toddlers because they put teatowels on their heads...

I sort of understand confused teenagers with MH issues under the influence of youtube, but ADULTS?

Or is this a new trend when you have a child not of the sex you preferred?

Someone on the Steve Biddulph thread has asked whether, given the increase in trans kinds, we shouldn't be telling children that they are a boy or a girl , but waiting to find out which they decide they are later??!!! Do people not understand that sex isn't something one can pick?

Do you know what, while i agree this is coming from batshit, if all children were treated equally, not subjected to stereotypes, and allowed to dress and play with what they want, and not be "boy" or "girl" it might not be a bad thing. At the very least, you wouldn't have adults telling children they are what they are not. And i'm willing to bet the number of trans kids will plummet, they'll just be children who like cars and dolls.

Well there will be a raft of litigation in the US in time when the children grow up and sue their parents.
It isn't funny.
As everyone keeps pointing out in Victoria times pink was a traditional boys clothes colour.

ilovechoc1987 · 27/04/2017 13:02

My dads the blokiest bloke around, but when he was a boy he used to play with his sisters dollys and do their hair, not interested in cars or trains.
He grew up to be fashion conscious, despite the pot belly and working on building sites.

GoldStars3 · 27/04/2017 12:59

Before this thread goes too far down the 'Americans are nuts' route, have a look at this The teatowels-to-hormone-blockers trend isn't an American thing. It's a batshit thing, and batshit is everywhere.

intersex is an anomaly, just like co-joined twins, or absence of limbs.

Trangender Dog!!!! Dog with internal testicles ( a cancer risk) and malformed external genitalia is not having "gender reassignment surgery" ffs.

I was worried the insanity had spread to people mistreating their dogs at first, but apparently, the dog was in pain because of its unusual genitalia and the surgery necessary. Different thing!

Though this sort of thing is/was done to human intersex babies who had no pain caused by their genitalia. It would be more appropriate, in those cases, to talk of "gender assignment surgery", as there is nothing re-assigned. (The neovag was apparently invented so that intersex babies born without penis - who had therefore to be assigned the feminine gender role, as only the bepenised get male privilege - would be fuckable.)

Intersex and Trans are connected insofar as the human rights violations committed on intersex people are now the shiny new "treatment" for trans.

No wonder most intersex people want nothing to do with transactivism ...

Special pants for girls with penises - as in boys?!

My uncle is a professor of neurosurgery so knows a fair bit about the brain. Do not get him started on this, he can rant for hours

Igneococcus · 27/04/2017 11:43

And now dogs too transgender dog
My local paper completely missing the difference between intersex and trans.

VestalVirgin · 27/04/2017 11:41

Or is this a new trend when you have a child not of the sex you preferred?

This is actually a very old trend.

The sworn virgins of ... I think it was Albania, were women whose parents didn't have sons. Since someone would have to care for their old moms, (and women had next to no rights) they were allowed to work and earn money like males, but required to swear eternal virginity. (What happened if a man raped them, I don't know, probably the village elders killed the woman, as usual).

They couldn't ever go back from wearing men's clothes and pretending to be men, but at least they didn't have to get life-shortening hormones and surgery.

With growing equality of the sexes, this was done less frequently, and there's only a few sworn virgins alive now.

Now, the same thing becomes popular again - women are now allowed to have sex, but due to this not being supported by patriarchy cannot inherit land (see English exemption from trans laws for inheritance by males), and are still treated as female (raped, molested, and so on) by men ... oh, and to be taken at all seriously have to mutilate their bodies. (Which means that being theoretically allowed to have sex isn't as great as one might think - most people aren't attracted to mutilated bodies.)

Hi Fish.

I agree. The ideology is like a snowball rolling downhill and picking up more and more people for more and more reasons. Meanwhile non invasive help is getting more and more scarce.

I wish this would go back into the medical category of issues, not a cultural one.

There has been a study in America of the parents of trans children, which indicates a definite social economic element. (I'm not talking about you here fish).

FishInAWetSuitAndFlippers · 27/04/2017 09:04

There is a certain kind of parent who thrives on the attention they generate for themselves.

They do the tv appearances and interviews and tell everyone about it and make demands and kick off when they aren't met and actively look for discrimination where there is none.

These are the ones everyone hears about.

A lot of parents, like me, are just scared for their child, they don't want attention, they don't want their child to feel this way, but don't know what to do.

I saw on Mermaids (before I got kicked off) scared parents coming on to seek advice. Instead of being told that it's ok for their child to play and wear whatever they were being given advice on transitioning, how to gain blockers faster, told that it's abusive not to allow blockers and hormones etc.

I do feel for a lot of parents who are hearing all this trans stuff, recognising signs in their child, going to the first place they come across online to ask for help and being effectively bullied into transing their child.

Ferrynice · 27/04/2017 08:53

That is the most fucked up thing I have read in a long time!
The word erection when talking about a 5 year old is so wrong and blogging about it ffs.
That poor kid.

Railgunner1 · 27/04/2017 08:45

I really must be born in a wrong body. I often have to shop in men's sections to find the clothes and shoes in sizes that actually fit Confused

olderthanyouthink · 27/04/2017 08:24

I've recently realised I must be a man or at least gender fluid.

When I was a kid I loved my race cars, climbing trees, Shooting games, tool kits etc. (We can ignore that I also love my baby dolls and princess dresses?)

As an adult I do a typically male job, I wear men's shirts regularly, love power tools and DIY, can ride motorcycles.

Shame on my parents for not turning me into a man so I wouldn't have to be called a tomboy or be told "but your a girl". Angry

sticklebrix · 27/04/2017 08:09

I find that blog very sad, railgunner. So much oversharing and investment in the child being transgender. So many restrictive expectations about the child's future.

It would be incredibly difficult for the child to just get on with being a feminine boy in such an environment. Awful.

SisterMoonshine · 27/04/2017 08:09

That'd be interesting Mary. There have been quotes from parents saying "well at least he's not gay". And look at the gender roles of Iran!
There could be something in that theory.

MaryJBilge · 27/04/2017 08:05

Does anyone know of any studies that look at the attitudes towards gender roles of people surrounding trans people when they were growing up?

I've not worded that well, but I mean, are you more likely to be transed as a child if you grow up in a community with firm and inflexible ideas about gender roles?

upperlimit · 27/04/2017 07:55

I agree it's fucked up. And the idea that someone would do this to signal their progressive attitude when it is built on the most narrow and proscriptive ideas on gender is a painful irony.

But I don't see that it is happening everywhere. I certainly haven't seen this.
