Stuff that i often see on fb is beyond disturbing.

People are transing toddlers because they put teatowels on their heads...

I sort of understand confused teenagers with MH issues under the influence of youtube, but ADULTS?

Or is this a new trend when you have a child not of the sex you preferred?

I remember thinking that I wanted to be just like my mum when I was a little kid. She spent more time with me than anyone else by a long way, and was my main role model. Most children are looked after predominantly by women - either their mothers or female nursery staff/childminders etc. Surely most boy children go through a time when they want to grow up to be mum, before they understand how it all works.

nauticant · 27/04/2017 16:44

When I was at school teatowel headgear was normally a sign of the shepherds in the nativity play.

Railgunner1 · 27/04/2017 16:32

FFS its not even wanting long hair. Its a fecking teatowel! Toddlers happily put saucepans and flowerpots on their heads Confused

GoldStars3 · 27/04/2017 16:23

I suspect a lot of that is making history fit the narrative

I think that every time I hear about another little boy who used to wear a tea towel on his head. Always a tea towel. Parent never just told the kid he can keep his hair long if he likes Confused. The tea towel has become a staple in the "persistent, consistent, insistent" story of how they always just knew....

Well, lesbians are already vilified for not sleeping with penises. But now het men are getting that too -- for not wanting to sleep with penises.
Its called "cotton ceiling" and "vagina fetish".

I wonder how much of it is a direct influence of porn. Lesbians are a fetish for quite a lot of men.

Well the blog is disturbing but so is the number of people validating the mother's behaviour. But if you read the transcript of the judgement of that child last year whose mother was determined to trans him, she was doing exactly the same things. And if you've ever heard an interview with the mum of the child in 'I am Leo', she is exactly the same. It's all 'oh we knew Leo was trans from a really young age because he didn't like playing with dolls ...'. I suspect a lot of that is making history fit the narrative

FeralBeryl · 27/04/2017 15:53

A dear friend of mine thinks that it's all a patriarchal plot to rid the world of butch lesbians. (Her included!)
She'd obviously be prime candidate for transing Hmm

The blog post is upsetting to read, my 5 year old is away with the fairies, there is no way she fits into any category for anything yet.

DearMrDilkington · 27/04/2017 15:49

It's all getting out of hand now. That blog about the child in the bath was incredibly disturbing.

The mother doesn't sound mentally well. I wonder what will happen when the child gets older and tells his mother his a boy, not a girl. That's if she hasn't completely brainwashed him, sadly it's unlikely anyone will step in for fear of being "transphobic".

nauticant · 27/04/2017 15:39

One could wonder whether parents of "feminine" boys are keener to have them declared as identifying trans than parents of "masculine" girls. And also whether it is "masculine" girls who make the declaration themselves rather than their parents.

But it's hard to tell. What isn't hard to tell is that there needs to be some proper study in this area but who would provide the funding and who would risk professional suicide by tackling this objectively and scientifically?

reallyanotherone · 27/04/2017 15:02

Windward- haven't read the link but i find the language used in that excerpt very interesting.

"Parents diagnosed", "identified by their parents"- so are we saying it's the parents saying their child is transgender and seeking "treatment", and not the child?

Since when are parents medically/psychologically qualified to diagnose?

WindwardCircle · 27/04/2017 14:56

Parents of transgender children diagnosed their male children earlier: between the ages of 3-5 for males and females between 9-14.
“All” male children in the study were diagnosed as transgender by their parents before the age of five and “most” before the age of three.
“Most” female children were identified by their parents as transgender after the onset of puberty.

The above is from one of the links upthread which is about a study of the parents of trans children.

WhereYouLeftIt · 27/04/2017 14:48

A couple of thoughts:
Where are the rates of Munchausen's By Proxy going? The reason I ask is, I remember seeing somewhere that as the rates of teenagers being diagnosed as transgender rises, the rates of teenager being diagnosed with anorexia is falling. (Will look for reputable source for that.) I wonder if MBP is doing the same, as attention-seeking parents decide to trans their child rather than hospitalise them.

And

"I wonder at what point the percentage of boys being transed in earlier childhood will so outweigh the girls that people start wringing their hands over it. "
Are more boys transing than girls? Radio 4's Women's Hour had a piece on the Tavistock Clinic ("the country's only gender identity clinic for under-18s") last year, and their figures were running the other way around. Just re-listened, as at time of the recording (April 2016) users of the clinic were up from 697 in the previous year to 1,398; almost 1,000 were female; and that it is the fifth consecutive year that females were 'overrepresented'. Of course that could be teenagers rather than younger children.

Railgunner1 · 27/04/2017 14:47

homophobia and mysogyny.
tomboy girl was never really seen as a 'bad' thing. somewhat odd maybe, but also cool at the same time.
however, a 'sissy' boy would be always the target of bullying.

FishInAWetSuitAndFlippers · 27/04/2017 14:41

I don't know any statistics, so this is just anecdotal, but I have noticed that parents of boys who feel as though they are trans are more likely to allow their child to take blockers and hormones and encourage their child down that route than parents of girls who feel as though they are trans.

VestalVirgin · 27/04/2017 14:32

I wonder at what point the percentage of boys being transed in earlier childhood will so outweigh the girls that people start wringing their hands over it.

I don't think it will be cause for handwringing anytime soon, as there's enough (pre)teen girls getting permanently sterilized that it's still a win for patriarchy.
They'll probably make up some bullshit about transgenderism not being diagnosed often enough in girls, and start transing more female toddlers.
(Gender non-conforming girls are a problem for parents, too - see the efforts made to make sure random strangers don't accidentally treat the future sex object as human being. People seem more intent on glueing bows to baby girls' head than marking male babies in any way.)

Are more male toddlers actually transed? I get the impression that people are pretty invested in forcing gender roles on their female babies and toddlers.

Or will we be subjected to debate and and analysis and phony neuroscience to explain the great mystery of why transing toddlers is more common is boys (though they won't call them boys), and transing teens is more common in girls?

Oh, I am sure they'll invent some theory to explain it, instead of admitting the obvious.

hoddtastic · 27/04/2017 14:23

the kid on that clip, the older brother has clear ASD traits (to my completely observational eye) I wonder if Paddy decided to be a girl to get some more attention from the older kid with ASD?

Yes I have no doubt, particularly in the States, that the medical profession are rubbing their hands with glee.

It's just that I can't find one definitive answer for the causes of gender dysphoria. I know why people with AGP transition. I know why every teenager who thinks they're special likes to flip their gender identity weekly.

But since gender dysphoria was considered the hall mark of transgenderism, I can't help feeling that if you crack that, you crack it all.

Railgunner1 · 27/04/2017 14:14

and note that the father is not in the picture

I'm reminded of a thread on here a few years ago, by a mother of a trans toddler. Someone searched her posting history, and it turned out she'd posted before about her experience of gender disappointment and her misery at not having a daughter. It was all very sad, and I often wonder what became of her and her child.

I'm guessing the oversharing blogger doesn't have any "assigned female at birth" children.

Railgunner1 · 27/04/2017 14:09

google the causes all you want. being a tomboy, or growing up gay -- that is all free of charge. Transing involves expensive things like drugs and therapy and surgery. its all business Wink

shitgibbon · 27/04/2017 13:58

I'm so glad I'm old now and not a kid... if I'd been born now my parents would have thought I was a boy.

It should be illegal to trans until age 16. Adults only.

GoldStars3 · 27/04/2017 13:52

I wonder at what point the percentage of boys being transed in earlier childhood will so outweigh the girls that people start wringing their hands over it.

Will people start to connect the very large and obvious dots that girls behaving like "tomboys" are less likely to cause alarm (recent NYT article notwithstanding) than boys who lower themselves to play with pink handbags and choose the female characters when playing with Bob the Builder toys? And that outside of inordinate familial pressure, young girls are often content enough to get into the frilly princess stuff, and/or get mucky and wear jeans and runners (and may even get praise for "not being a girly girl" because you know, girls suck), until they hit adolescence and learn to hate the changing bodies that are turning them into judgable, fuckable objects in the eyes of others?

Will the links to the very obvious social pressures and sex stereotypes that kids internalise, at different ages and in different ways for less masculine boys and less feminine girls, give anyone pause? Or will we be subjected to debate and and analysis and phony neuroscience to explain the great mystery of why transing toddlers is more common is boys (though they won't call them boys), and transing teens is more common in girls?

Datun · 27/04/2017 13:38

Gobbolinothewitchscat

What's your uncles take on all this, if you don't mind me asking?

I can google causes for transgender and get all sorts of reasons ranging from sexual abuse, to hormone washes in the womb, to it's a psychological problem, to the mum took the wrong medicine and everything in between.

I personally feel that it's some kind of disassociative disorder akin to anorexia. You have a high prevalence of people with autism becoming trans and the high prevalence of comorbid conditions.

But having every cell of your body imprinted with male DNA, apart from your brain, is clearly nonsense.

Datun · 27/04/2017 13:34

Do you know what, while i agree this is coming from batshit, if all children were treated equally, not subjected to stereotypes, and allowed to dress and play with what they want, and not be "boy" or "girl" it might not be a bad thing. At the very least, you wouldn't have adults telling children they are what they are not. And i'm willing to bet the number of trans kids will plummet, they'll just be children who like cars and dolls.

Absolutely. Get rid of the stereotypical gender roles and everyone can do what they want.

Not once in that clip a few posts up did anyone mention symptoms of gender dysphoria. It was all about liking girls' stuff. And then the parents said it's not all about liking girls' stuff.

Micah · 27/04/2017 13:20

I also like the irony that in the US, playing soccer is a sign you are a girl, because over there it's about as masculine as ballet. "Real boys" play american football.

So a soccer loving child would be a girl in the US, and a boy in the UK....
