Shea can smear the Dove Shea butter all over her stretchmarks and stinging perineumHmm

Floggingmolly · 16/04/2017 20:02

Since when was "to be a mother you must be female" a mere stereotype to be shattered?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 16/04/2017 19:55

I really hate that advert. Not just the transgender person.

There is the really bad at break dancing mother and the black mother both rubbishing anything that they might hear from other women; the idiotic comments from the woman on the ranch about her lifestyle being so unique- it isn't- it really isn't.

Then the twaddle about
Dove's new initiative intends to "shatter stereotypes about motherhood and prove that there are no rules about how to be a parent today,"

There sodding well are rules. They exist for a reason.

Floggingmolly · 16/04/2017 19:42

Now you can smear Shea all over you...

And also referred to her as the mother! She is the mother of the baby, regardless of whether you consider the trans partner to be a mother or another parent/father.

ChocChocPorridge · 16/04/2017 16:49

You're right Bob.

including Shea, a trans mother who is raising a child with her female partner.

Would it have killed them to use 5-10 more characters and included her name?

whowantsadog · 16/04/2017 16:20

I thought that Jiggly

BigDeskBob · 16/04/2017 16:19

In all of the press about this, I haven't seen any mention of the mothers name - she seems to be only credited as 'Shea's female partner'.

JigglyTuff · 16/04/2017 16:15

LOL me too Grin

JigglyTuff · 16/04/2017 16:15

Is the uncredited comment from this thread? http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2017/04/16/doves-young-moms-campaign-featuring-trans-woman-faces-absurd-criticism/

whowantsadog · 16/04/2017 16:14

So this just popped up on my Facebook feed. Apparently criticism of the ad is "absurd". Hmm

Yes, ironically Dove seem to have represented the reality of motherhood for some women. Sitting quietly in the background while some domineering bloke takes the credit for their emotional and physical labour.

Very astute !

CaoNiMartacus · 16/04/2017 08:25

Reminds me of a male acquaintance of mine, who started a Twitter account for his unborn daughter, and "Tweeted" using her "voice" from the womb.

MrsDustyBusty · 16/04/2017 07:30

It's a funny extention of the trend for saying "we're pregnant".

You some men, the idea that they're not the driver of an important event in their life is simply intolerable.

GuardianLions · 16/04/2017 00:41

datun that's disturbing. On another thread someone spoke about how AGPs have 'affairs' with themselves.
When you think about how a lot of men have their first affair and DV frequently begins during his partner's pregnancy - it does seem sinister...

Datun · 15/04/2017 23:51

According to Gendertrender there was a man called Brooke Addison whose girlfriend became pregnant. He then transitioned to female when she was vulnerable. She split up with him and he detransitioned. He did the same thing three times. Friends and family of the women posted on social media about it.

I can find links to him, but not to the scandal - the websites remain but they are empty. But GT is usually fairly reliably informed.

If you accept the studies that say almost all transwomen who remain attracted to women have a degree of AGP, it takes on a far more sinister light.

Terfinator · 15/04/2017 23:10

He's quite a handsome bloke, but an odd-loooking woman! He should stick with the man look really...

BigDeskBob · 15/04/2017 23:06

"Why can't he just be a crossdressing dad"

Because that won't give them enough attention.

cuirderussie · 15/04/2017 22:31

Why can't he just be a crossdressing dad like the one I know who cheerfully accompanies his kids to Saturday activities wearing lipstick and a tasteful jumper dress? Or a stay at home dad like my big hairy husband was for a couple of years when our kids were tiny? Why is he calling himself a mom? He can fuck off, this makes me angrier the more I think about it Angry

OlennasWimple · 15/04/2017 22:09

I'm enjoying the Twitter response to the ad though: here

OlennasWimple · 15/04/2017 22:07

I'm a bio and an adoptive mum, and I never ever use the phrase "real mum" because in the adoption world it's a very loaded term. Another reason why the Dove campaign is shit

Floggingmolly · 15/04/2017 21:53

So, the full works. Beard, moustache, (penis presumably?).

Just like old Mother Hubbard herself.
