Feminism in prehistoric times / primitive culture

Joneser · 11/04/2017 21:32

Hi. Is it possible in theory that any kind of feminist movement could conceivably have existed in prehistoric times or in any primitive culture? I don't mean matriarchal societies, I mean a feminist movement.

OP posts:

Off to see the taunting on the other thread now. I'm only annoyed that I spent several minutes of my life tapping out responses to this shite Grin

stumblymonkeyremix · 12/04/2017 13:51

I can't remember which one it was TBH....maybe an earlier series of Bear?

There was a man's island and a woman's island and very annoyingly the women were a bit shit. But obviously, unless you're practically brain dead (looking at you OP) it's clearly a reflection of the specific 12 women they picked than women in general.

As PP said the next series had both sexes on one island and the women killed it.

SuziePink · 12/04/2017 13:34

I really wish the OP would come back so we can taunt him like they did so well on this forum as one PP mentioned previously.

Thanks mumsnet for leaving this up. I need a good laugh at the moment.

BBCNewsRave · 12/04/2017 13:25

You think, smiling? I get the vague impression he's a raging misogynist in that uber entitled upper class way...

smilingsarahb · 12/04/2017 13:19

The Bear Grylls one is fab. I only saw the uk one. Bear is so feminist.

TitaniasCloset · 12/04/2017 13:16

Oh I have to watch this bear grylls one,! I think op is referring to a really crap show a few years ago that was all a bit channel 5. I lost interest after the first episode. There was another one where they went back to living in 10,000 BC. That was good. The most successful tribe was run by a woman, and the men were obsessed with hunting and a few of them very mysoginustc to the women, but they couldn't catch shit.

BBCNewsRave · 12/04/2017 13:07

stumbly Your "experiment" was not an experiment; it was a reality TV show.

Is that the Bear Grylls one or the other one, I wonder?

The Bear Grylls one with men and women on the same island who found each other was ace. The women cracked on with things much better than the men. When the female and male groups met, the men were making comments about having to look after the women now Hmm. They fucked around with bits of wood and made a small crap bed for one in a day. Meanwhile, the women made a big strong shelter for everyone. Men also obsessed with "hunting" (not so much "catching" though) whilst the women provided the basic daily sustenance. There was a great bit where chief dick moaned about an older woman doing the water collection trip with him, and offering to carry her jerry can. She marched off back to camp with it slung over a shoulder whilst he struggled with his. And the US series was terrifying better! A load of egos, one goes bonkers and nearly stabs another because he can't cope with feeling emotional and cying.

Ahh bless. They even have their own wiki which they're too dumb to lock down. Anyone can edit it. Enjoy

GuardianLions · 12/04/2017 12:57

Thanks mumsnet i've found this thread informative and entertaining - I now know about 'red pill' and 'incel' - and the postulations about empathy as an evolutionary dead end Grin

Xenophile · 12/04/2017 12:51

Since when did empathy become a purely female thing? Such utter bollocks, almost as ridiculous as the OP's witterings.

user1487175389 · 12/04/2017 12:04

You're very hard of thinking, aren't you, OP? Might be best if you let us do it for you from now on.

KatherineMumsnet · 12/04/2017 12:00

Gwarn then - we'll leave it up for your amusement Grin

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 12/04/2017 11:59

Can we start speaking to these goady fuckers the way women are spoken down to at times please?

E.g - "Cool story bro, now get back in the garage and change my tyre"

PoochSmooch · 12/04/2017 11:54

nooooo, please leave it! We need a laugh Grin

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 12/04/2017 11:50

Even if just one other person reads it and has a think....
It's done something helpful surely??

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 12/04/2017 11:50

Noooo - don't zap it.....why??

There's been some good (and funny) replies!

FlissMumsnet · 12/04/2017 11:49

A big thanks for all the reports - the OP may not be back.......

KatherineMumsnet · 12/04/2017 11:47

Thanks for the reports all, we're going to zap this one shortly coz...well.

Nellooo · 12/04/2017 11:44

Did you perhaps help to write this piece of mansplaining shite, op?

http://all-that-is-interesting.com/menstruation-history?llid=ndmJJ&utmsource=facebook&utmmmedium=social&utmcampaign=fbpdliquids&utmmterm=9MjY

Some choice excepts here so you don't have to waste your time -

"Laura Klosterman Kidd, who is something of the go-to expert in this subject, reviewed 17 pioneer women’s diaries, as well as the inventories of various wagon trains and the letters experienced women wrote back East with advice on what to pack for the trip, and found not a single reference to any kind of period-management technology, which suggests all the girls from Little House on the Prairie were totally bleeding all over the place."

And this -

"Since this was the early 20th century, things still had to be absurdly steampunk, so a generation of women were treated to belts, buckles, straps, kitchen sinks, lengths of stovepipe, cords, fasteners, clips, and slings to hold the goddamn things steady while they were being bled on."

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 12/04/2017 11:42

I hope they do take those comments back to their cave websites!

The more I see, hear and read of most men, I'm starting to think an island somewhere might be the best fucking option really.

You only have to spend 5 mins on other boards here to see all the male entitlement in the world....from the classic "woman gets all the wife/shit work, but he's a great Dad, honest" Hmm right through to sexual and domestic abuse in all it's forms.

Men rape and hurt and kill women all the fucking time then have the temerity to claim it's the fucking natural order of things. Angry

Yeah send em all to a fucking island and let em fight it out....first on the boats??
Everyone on Red Pill......they can assert their fucking "masculinity" as much as they want with each other....we don't even want that sperm anyway...I mean, who would??

peaceout · 12/04/2017 11:36

Perhaps we are too harsh with the op, why break a butterfly on a wheel etc
When it comes to intellect he is most certainly in the butterfly/lightweight category

squishysquirmy · 12/04/2017 11:35

Oh, I wasn't suggesting we should care Vestal. Just musing!

VestalVirgin · 12/04/2017 11:35

I don't think OP would last long when pitted against the need to wash his own pants, to be fair

Eh, he would be able to survive and keep his sperm-producing capacity for a while with dirty pants.
But it would be an evolutionary dead end, which female wants to mate with such a dirty male, after all?

VestalVirgin · 12/04/2017 11:33

I wonder if any comments on this thread will be dragged off to some dingy, Cantina corner of the internet, taken out of context and used to demonstrate that "feminazis want to pit men in gladiatorial contests and think they are only useful for their sperm!"

They probably will, but who cares? Those men hate women anyway. Nothing we write, even if taken out of context, could possibly make them hate us more.
... okay, perhaps hate us more, but as they already consider us subhuman and objects for their use, the respect that hate implies would be a step up.

PoochSmooch · 12/04/2017 11:32

I don't think OP would last long when pitted against the need to wash his own pants, to be fair Grin

Love the fire with fire technique of combatting just-so evo-bollocks with just-so evo-bollocks, xeno! Weird how anything that suggests a "natural" order than doesn't put men on top just...vanishes from theory, eh?
