“All power given to women in our current culture has to be power that men lose.”

A Mary Beard quote.

Which male in power would you happily see the back of and which female would you replace them with? Grin

Trump not allowed. Too easy. It can be low level too, like your boss or a headmaster.

Of course female power has to be at the expense of male power. Feminists don't want equality. No one wants equality. When it comes down to it people want power, privilege and advantage over others. Humans are driven by three things: money, power and sex. Women are no different.

It's just that so far men have had all the power and now women want it. Fair play I spose.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 06/03/2017 20:39

No Helen it doesn't say that but I did not say it did
.
The post I quoted was simply one that struck me at the time as spectacularly missing the point and even more so now.

And of course suggesting I have "establishment press bed buddies" whoever they are.

There was a post Are you actually a genuine Labour Party member, or supporter, as you don't appear to behave like either It got a bit muddled as to whether it was me Yonic , Amethyst or possibly all of us who failed.

MrsDoylesTeabags · 06/03/2017 20:29

I'd swap my Department Director with our Senior Buyer. Took me about 2 seconds to think of that. She'd do a bloody good job too.

As for JC, I don't care who they swap him with as long as they do it soon

HelenDenver · 06/03/2017 19:46

That comment doesn't suggest you are not a proper member, Lass.

It (rightly) says the majority of members were pro JC.

How can you quote something and then so wilfully misinterpret it?

QuentinSummers · 06/03/2017 19:40

Meanwhile we wallow about (in England anyway) without an effective opposition Sad

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 06/03/2017 18:54

It's a very interesting read. I think what got me was the suggestion I was not a proper Labour party member or voter.

ALass... seeing as the Labour party now has more members than all other parties combined, (a predicted) 80% of whom support Corbyn, I would have though that listening to what non-Blairites have to say may work to your advantage

This is no repeat of "Foot".

I know you and your establishment press bed buddies love to dismiss JC as pie-in-the-sky, but the disruptor has landed

With a 52% female cabinet

Could the above post be more wrong? A little unfair perhaps to single that one out- there were plenty of otherd.Yet despite everything at the recent by election disasters his supporters were still banging on about the number of members.

(In the interests of fairness Corbyn may well still have a 52% female cabinet- I'm past caring- as is just about the rest of the electorate)

The Labour party needs a new Blair. I don't see one appearing in the near future.

QuentinSummers · 06/03/2017 18:20

Interesting to read that thread again given last year's political events. Lass was on the money about JC

HelenDenver · 06/03/2017 11:52

Ah, was it this one, then, Lass?

I don't see a lambasting. I see a disagreement with both sides speaking about their positions, and a fair few, including myself, not being keen on Corbyn.

Hardly you against the Borg, was it?

BarrackerBarma · 05/03/2017 21:41

Oh but there's this judge, Prawn!

Victoria McCloud Inn: Lincoln’s Inn When she was made a Master of the High Court (Queen’s Bench Division) in 2010 at the age of 46, McCloud was the youngest person ever to be so appointed, in addition to being only the second woman

(A few more women like this and there'll be no need for actual women at all to be represented! Hurrah!)

“All power given to women in our current culture has to be power that men lose.”
Prawnofthepatriarchy · 05/03/2017 19:02

I've left the Labour party over Jeremy Corbyn - well, that and the serious efforts by senior party figures to make Labour pretty much unelectable. It's dismal.

If I had to pinpoint a group I'd like to swap it would be judges. There are far too few women judges and I think a more balanced bench would benefit everyone.

Xenophile · 05/03/2017 11:47

Name changes are a bad thing? I'll bear that in mind.

How about using different names on FWR and AIBU so people can't link your regular poster on FWR status when posting slagging off FWR on AIBU?

Is that a bad thing too?

What about grossly misrepresenting other posters? That ok?

HelenDenver · 05/03/2017 08:45

Not hiding behind name changes, Lass. I consider it sensible post Jeffreygate. YMMV.

Your consistent insistence that FWR "regulars" speak with one voice and they are all "agin" you (despite your own frequent poster status) would make you identifiable whatever your name, TBH.

I'm also a Labour Party member who voted against Corbyn

But you continue with your personal narrative of persecution. 'Twas ever thus.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 05/03/2017 01:18

I think Corbyn and his supporters have destroyed the Labour party.

birdsdestiny · 05/03/2017 00:47

To be honest I would swap a Muppet for Corbyn let alone a competent woman.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 05/03/2017 00:42

Which of these threads was the lambasting on, Lass?

Goodness Helen I'm so impressed by the effort you have gone to try and discredit a post of mine. Even I am allowed a name change.

I was probably using the name ALassUnParalleled at the time. ( a name that I picked after being told on FWR that "lass", despite being a common regional usage from where I come from is offensive and Shakespeare's beautiful words are sexist)

Do get back to me in case you can't find the thread in case it might have been another name. Unlike most posters on here I don't hide behind regular name changes but I have had a couple of different names.

I got a flaming for posting that I hoped that the ineptitude of Corbyn would result in an early coup. I am a member of the Labour party. I have twice not voted for Corbyn.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 04/03/2017 22:53

Definitely my small boss. And I make NO apologies for pointing out his smallness as I do believe that, for men, the Napoleon complex is real and powerful! In a company of 150, with 144 female workers and a boss who is a tiny, tooty man with Napoleon complex, who regularly fires out emails about our phones, flexi, leave, blah blah....I think HERE is a prime example of bullshit patriarchy!

BarrackerBarma · 04/03/2017 20:59

I'd happily swipe the majority of male actors off our screens and replace them with female ones at a ratio of 3 women to 1 man on every programme or movie. Just for a decade or three. Enough for a generation of girls to learn what the average boy's experience currently is.

Ditto politicians, CEOs, surgeons, world leaders.

Then parity between the sexes thereafter. Possibly.

HelenDenver · 04/03/2017 20:34

HelenDenver · 04/03/2017 20:31

Oh Lass.

I am an FWR regular.

Like the rest of the regulars, including yourself, I am not Borg.

I have never supported Corbyn.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/03/2017 12:55

So you were. But some people are able to change their view as new information becomes available

I think Corbyn's unsuitability for the job was obvious during his first leadership campaign let alone the second.

His misogynistic tendencies were also apparent from an early stage of his leadership. It was mildly amusing to see the vociferous defence put up.

On a less flippant note having stood and lost probably means Cooper's chances have been scuppered by him.

ISaySteadyOn · 03/03/2017 10:59

Lessthanaballpark, DH and I are in agreement that we would both like Marina Sirtis to play the Doctor. She once said she would like to. As for Death in Paradise, just promote Florence.

Xenophile · 03/03/2017 09:30

I was lambasted on an FWR thread when he first became leader for saying what a disaster he was for the Labour party.

So you were. But some people are able to change their view as new information becomes available, which is the mark of intelligence. Would you like apologies from people?

I haven't heard the Mary Beard quote in context, does anyone have a link?

Bitofacow · 03/03/2017 08:33

Yvette Cooper for JC brilliant idea. Added bonus her husband is a bit of fluff who can dance!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/03/2017 08:28

I'd see the back of Jeremy Corbyn. For Yvette Cooper, preferably

I was lambasted on an FWR thread when he first became leader for saying what a disaster he was for the Labour party.
