Working Class Movement Library under siege

They are being attacked by the transactivists for hosting an event featuring 'hateful transphobe' Julie Bindel.

If you have time please go on and give them a review (transwhacktivists are giving them 1 star reviews) - it's great that they are being brave and not backing down on their decision to host Julie.

It's just horrifying that someone who campaigns against violence towards women and girls is being bullied in this way. They also plan to picket the event.

Half her carer's allowance, Datun - which is a huge deal and I agree seriously generous!

(It's only a tenner to become a Friend of the library, should anyone fancy it, btw.)

Datun · 30/03/2017 15:50

ArcheryAnnie

That's brilliant. It's a little indistinct, does it say she gave her carer's allowance?

How generous. Very humbling.

ArcheryAnnie · 30/03/2017 14:44

UPDATE!

I donated to the library back when it was all kicking off, and as a result they send me their lovely newsletter, "Shelf Life". And mumsnet is mentioned in it! As well as a report of the meeting, it's got this lovely note at the end about someone else from mumsnet donating. So if it was you, you made their day!

People trying to get a working class library shut down is a matter for everyone who cares about history. Even if they're not working class!
I was very happy to put my money where my mouth is and send a donation.

ArcheryAnnie · 10/01/2017 20:42

Isn't her welcome (or otherwise) at an LGBT event a matter for the LGBT community rather than straight cis gendered feminists?

AnotherRandomMale I'm not straight, not cis, and not in the slightest bit impressed by men who seem to think it's appropriate to make assumptions about the sexuality of women they don't know. Amazingly enough, I will continue to support the right of a working-class library to invite a working-class lesbian to speak, despite your priceless words of wisdom.

ArcheryAnnie · 10/01/2017 19:58

Fred Banks, trans activist, has been posting on FB to organise other activists to target the funders and celeb doners of the library to try and get it defunded. If you want to know the disgusting details of how they are doing this, screenshots are on @lubelluledotcom 's twitter.

I am just way, way over the WTF-ery of this. Could any of us ever have imagined this? That what passes for social activism is trying to get a working class library shut down?

Wankers. Privileged fucking armchair activists, who if they achieve one thing in their miserable lives it will be to GET A WORKING-CLASS LIBRARY SHUT DOWN.

I am so angry about this.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 10/01/2017 12:38

Beachcomber is on fire on this thread! If only this kind of incisive analysis was enough to see off this rubbish. Alas, it won't be

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/01/2017 12:30

What a shame it has gone. There were many words of wisdom on that thread.

FloraFox · 10/01/2017 12:03

Hi Lorna. Thanks for the update. I thought MNHQ did not delete whole threads at the OPs request unless there is a pressing reason?

LornaMumsnet · 10/01/2017 11:47

Hi all,

We appreciate the frustration.

We did try and push back and we really didn't want to remove the thread, but at the end of the day, the OP wanted it gone and so we felt it best to remove.

So sorry about this.

FloraFox · 10/01/2017 11:40

The deletion message said the OP asked for it to be removed. MNHQ doesn't usually do that. Not sure why.

zsazsagaboredom · 10/01/2017 11:38

The other (longer) thread on this has been removed.
Did it degenerate into something awful?

FloraFox · 10/01/2017 10:40

This sort of moral false equivalence is an easy way to close your eyes to issues while trying to maintain the moral high ground.

shinynewusername · 10/01/2017 08:56

I feel the same contempt for the 'thems all menz' transphobes as I do the 'die, CIS bitch die' trans activists

So you think that stating that TW are biologically men is morally equivalent to making death threats to women? Wow.

TitaniasCloset · 10/01/2017 00:11

Have signed both.

TitaniasCloset · 09/01/2017 23:58

Also the picture of the wee hijabi to complain about racism, I'm a Muslim woman myself but some feminists have a problem with hijab and organised religion on the whole. That doesn't make them racist, i know when people are posting anti Muslim anti hijab shite because they are just fucking racist.

On top of which, its feminists who do an awful lot for Muslim women who are being oppressed. Whether they are Muslim themselves or not.

Just wanted to add that, my little moan, but sorry I don't want to derail the thread as I have done before as you were, I'm off to read about Julie B.

TitaniasCloset · 09/01/2017 23:53

My feminism is for women. That's who its for.

Xenophile · 09/01/2017 16:06

I think I know who you're talking about OneFlew, and he's not going to stop this.

BBCNews... I find it interesting that the pictures of the trans person is very definitely a bloke with long hair. My answer to the question posed though would be: for women, so FtT are very welcome.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 09/01/2017 15:46

That's totally outrageous, OneFlew! I'm stuck on my phone, not had much practice in using it to research the name of this bellend. Will try to remember to search it out later and check what this person's up to. It may be a hobby is his, fcs!

BBCNewsRave · 09/01/2017 15:38

Just going to leave this here... shared by feminist on fb... argh. So many brainwashed.

Julie Bindel has said some straight up ridiculous things in the past, mostly because she likes to court controversy. She has however, committed no crimes and done a whole lot of good for women, children, and lesbians in particular.

A rich, privately educated and very bloody privileged bloke (who I won't name just in case) who has worn a dress on occasion, has decided that he doesn't want to hear what this working class lesbian might say to an audience at the Working Class Movement Library. Fair enough, his prerogative - except he has also decided that NO-ONE should get the opportunity to listen to her either, and furthermore that the charity that's decided to host her should be forcibly shut down as punishment.

This is not only a highly sexist and homophobic action, it's also classist. It's taking the power he has as a rich man to try to shut down one of the few damn working class resources we have in this country. The fact he's trying to do it in the name of liberalism royally boils my piss.

Xenophile · 09/01/2017 08:13

One weird juxtaposition I've seen is where two or three MtT are "discussing" JB's looks. They decide that she's as ugly as a transman! So there's obviously some kind of hierarchy even within the T, guess which biological sex appears to come out on top of that one too?

Beachcomber · 08/01/2017 23:39

So it's a new shiny faux right-on way to get lesbians to STFU.

(Sorry. Must preview!)

Beachcomber · 08/01/2017 23:36

Are the men on this thread saying that working class lesbians shouldn't be allowed to take up invitations by working class lesbians to talk about being working class lesbians unless they support transgenderism?

That because T has been added to LGB, whether lesbians want it there or not, that means lesbians have a cheek to talk about lesbianism?

That's what if sounds like. So it's a new shiny faux right-on to get lesbians to STFU.

BBCNewsRave · 08/01/2017 20:00

If a middle aged lesbian speaking in a tiny library poses such a bowel-loosening threat I can only assume that these dickheads have never in their cushioned lives encountered any sort of threat before.

Now now dear, come on. Just look around you at all the minority and/or oppressed groups no-platforming everyone who disagrees. That's why no misogynists, racists, homophobes, disability deniers, etc. are ever allowed to speak or influence public policy. Wink
