Why can't it just say 'Family Organiser'?

I never once used a paper calendar/diary/planner in my life. But, as I get older, I find that Google Calendar is very helpful.

thatstoast · 03/01/2017 18:34

Nope, it's definitely the "patriarchy".

OP posts:
LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/01/2017 18:02

There are literally 1000s of organisers and calendars to pick from which don't have the word "mum" on them.

No one, not even the "patriarchy" is forcing you to buy this one. If you like it that's just fine; if you don't buy another one. You could buy one which supports your favourite charity for example.

thatstoast · 03/01/2017 17:43

Ok, next year I won't buy one. I'll never know when anything is but it'll be worth it to see the sexist calendar industry crumble.

I cannot believe how old fashioned it all is. Spot on Rask

No one even needs a family organiser. I'm partial to a lovely calendar myself, so long as it's got pictures of beaches and sun the changing seasons, who doesn't love a Robin on a snow covered spade for December. But I have these pictures on my social media.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/01/2017 15:57

As long as women still buy this shit, nothing will change

Unleash the power of boycott

(What IS this kind of thing, by the way? All families I know get by without having a special "family organiser")

Agreed on all points.

And if you do actually need or want a "family organiser" there are 100s available which are non- gendered/ non sexist. Google really is your friend.

It seems perverse to buy this particular one and then start a thread complaining about how sexist it is.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 02/01/2017 16:39

I hate the mum ones too. I found it hard to get a neutral one. I cannot believe how old fashioned it all is.

ImprovingMyMH · 02/01/2017 16:37

I love my family planner which is made by Organised Mum, I hate the company name though! Also, MN.

thatstoast · 02/01/2017 16:28

I treated myself to one with stickers a few years ago. It was very nice. I think for £2 you can't expect stickers or equality.

OP posts:
BeyondTheStarryNight · 02/01/2017 16:23

I quite like the ones that come with stickers. As I'm a lazy organised mum!!

DH buys our family organiser every year. It's right up his street, he's a colour-coding, spreadsheet-obsessed kind of guy.

The main USP for him is not what it's called, but how much it costs and how many columns there are. So we have had a few "mum" ones, chosen by him, and he is the one who uses it the most

thatstoast · 02/01/2017 15:32

This thread is half serious at most, frumpy

I've inferred from 'Awesome Dad' that men are worthy of praise if they organise family things. Mums are just mums.

OP posts:
flumpybear · 02/01/2017 15:25

Oooops sorry I realised I've stumbled onto a serious thread - I was being flippant - I'm good st that (bad at Being a feminist ) .... as you were Wink

How is it different?

thatstoast · 02/01/2017 15:02

The one for dads is "Awesome Dad's family organiser" which is a little bit different.

I didn't go trawling through Google for this. I bought it from The Works. They all said mum and I picked this one because it was the cheapest not because I like pink birds or whatever.

OP posts:
BartholinsSister · 02/01/2017 14:42

Perhaps it's aimed at the mums who want to organise everything.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 02/01/2017 14:24

Here's an idea. Why not call it just a family organiser?

The majority of Google results for "family organiser" bring up exactly that- "family organiser"- not "mum's family organiser".

The one the OP found was around the fortieth in the search results I got and the first which said "Mum"

megletthesecond · 02/01/2017 14:21

Yep.

I get in a right hump with these. The dc's have had to listen to me grumbling about them.

QueenOfTheSardines · 02/01/2017 14:17

It's a bit chicken / egg isn't it.

TBH it's a symptom of society, I think you'd need society to shift before the consumer goods would follow (as they are looking at demographics).

I don't think taking the work mum off, and even colouring it blue and putting motocycles on it (Wink) will act to move society along, will it?

BeyondTheStarryNight · 02/01/2017 14:10

Here's an idea. Why not call it just a family organiser?
Or even a multiple role organiser, so eg workplaces could use it too.... Wink

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 02/01/2017 14:09

There is no need for an organiser to be specifically adressed to either parent.

There are 100s of organisers available just called "family organiser"

QueenOfTheSardines · 02/01/2017 14:07

Oh haha see have just replicated the (serious) post above mine Grin
