Beware: reading this article may be bad for your blood pressure...

It's exactly that treacle. Performing a bizarre interpretation of "femininity" which is all about clothes and hair and make up and girlish mannerisms.

treaclesoda · 09/12/2016 11:43

It feels like they have this vision of what being a woman means that bears no resemblance to our actual lived experiences.

It's like teenage boys who think that a teenage girls sleepover consists of having pillow fights in their underwear Hmm

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 09/12/2016 11:34

I'm also on there Statistically - I don't know how much longer though as it's getting absurd. If a woman of a similar age and build dressed up in teenage clothes from New Look they'd be gently steered away from such bad clothing choices, but stick a builder with massive tattoos in a girlish dress up and it's all "you're so brave".

There was recently a bloke on with a bad wig, bright orange foundation. I (being nice, I thought) advised that he might want to look at a more natural foundation colour and youtube videos on how to apply it properly (didn't even start on the dreadful blue eyeshadow and comedy red lipstick) and got a warning that it was a supportive community. So apparently that means lying to people rather than actually trying to help...

Nodding along furiously to your posts, Prawn.

Just as an aside, I saw this on Reddit and it shows The Life Of Brian is still relevant today.

I'm glad it's not just me, I genuinely couldn't give a monkeys about guys being members, but this is different somehow.

treaclesoda · 09/12/2016 10:50

Statistically I think we might be in the same online group, and I feel exactly the same way. I also notice a huge number of, often very young, women who rush to tell them how amazing they look, thereby giving them the validation they clearly crave. And all the 'you go, girl' and 'looking great, lady' comments, often from other transwomen.

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/12/2016 22:56

I'm part of an online makeup/fashion/general "girly" stuff group (yeah, bad feminist I know!) and it seems to be like catnip to what I am fairly sure are AGP TW seeking validation. It's not an exclusively female group, and there are guys on it which I don't mind in the slightest (who post some amazing make up, genuinely talented), but I also keep spotting older very masculine looking 'women' who seem to be parodying younger females and going for sort of hyper-sexualised looks - imagine a 50 year old dressed like an 18 year old about to go clubbing.

It makes me uncomfortable because it feels exactly like "womanhood as a costume" - you don't have to like makeup to be a woman, or be a woman to like makeup, but it's like some sort of pastiche of what they think a woman is.

ageingrunner · 08/12/2016 22:41

Sorry, she, I accept I may get deleted now 😔

ageingrunner · 08/12/2016 22:40

Squee I've been unfortunate enough to see a naked picture of that "Hindu" tw that I can never unsee. He is a very scary and unpleasant person.

MySqueeHasBeenSeverelyHarshed · 08/12/2016 22:00

The transwoman I'm referring to has picked up and dropped so many identities at this point that her escapades could fill a book, she'll drop Islam as soon as she gets banned from the online groups for picking fights (won't be long, she's doing that as we speak.)

There is an element of 'echoing' to it all, I see an awful lot of transgender people thanks to the communities I hang out in and a lot of them latch onto whatever they can find to cobble together an identity. One of them claims to be Roma, despite being provably from a whiter-than-white background, one of them adopted her sister's name and started wearing her clothes, there's one that claims to be a Hindu woman and somehow got onto the staff of a woman's centre, one that joined our retro fashion group and spent the whole meetup being pointlessly bitchy (because that's what girls are like when they get together, right?) There's even one that follows me around now trying to 'echo' me, I feel bad for her because she's not necessarily bad or creepy but fails to understand that she can't just wear womanhood like a costume.

TitaniasCloset · 08/12/2016 02:48

Abso fucking lutely!! Yes, it makes perfect sence for many reasons, was thinking along similar lines myself.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 07/12/2016 23:05

Of you think about it, Titania, it makes sense that some transwomen will be drawn to Islam. So many are powerfully motivated by validation, by being able to be in women's spaces. Mosques are sex segregated. So are social events, traditionally, though some Muslims don't follow this. How super validating it might feel to be in the women's section, secretly. How violating for the women intruded upon by such a man. There is something intrinsically violating, boundary breaking, in so much of trans ideology. They really don't give a shit about women, do they?

TitaniasCloset · 07/12/2016 22:54

Watched the you tube video. Commented. Can't even be bothered to get into it. But I hope my Muslim sisters see what's going on here.

TitaniasCloset · 07/12/2016 22:52

Blimey. Confused that's new, now they are claiming to be Muslims?

BTW I came across Gallus because of posts on here and my mind was blown.

These individuals have no respect for anyone's feelings, its just all about them. I'm done being nice.

MySqueeHasBeenSeverelyHarshed · 07/12/2016 19:57

As it happens, a well-known transwoman in my country has recently 'reverted' to Islam and it's blatantly clear that she is doing it for attention. She's notorious for getting kicked out of just about every organization and group possible and is one of the only people in the country that's banned from the rail service. She's donned a hijab (badly) and refers to it on facebook as a 'weird scarf', does not follow the hygiene practices and doesn't pray. She's been posting pictures of herself with new Muslim 'friends' who are very clearly baffled but too nice to say anything about her.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 07/12/2016 19:27

That's your free time spoken for, Datun. When I first found Gendertrender I read on and off for weeks. Eye opening.

Datun · 07/12/2016 18:21

I've just spent an addictive hour reading some of Gallus on Gender Trender, prawn. Damn, she's good.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 07/12/2016 14:51

I think if the trans juggernaut continues there is going to be some interesting readjustment of the relationship between Muslim feminism and liberal and radical feminism.
There will be a new obvious commonality between radfems and Muslim feminists and area of conflict with liberals.

TitaniasCloset · 07/12/2016 13:06

Thanks all of you. I'm just starting to look into feminim seriously although always saw myself as a feminist. Its also hard getting a balance sometimes between religion and my own experience and beliefs, but I suppose its like that for a lot of women.

This feminist chat on mumsnet was the reason I joined and the reason I have researched the trans issue, the way some of you deal with the MRA's is effing hilarious too! I have learned so much and I keep trying to tell anyone who will listen,!

I have found my 'coven'!!

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 07/12/2016 12:42

It's so sick I want to cry. Honestly.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/12/2016 12:41

Titania's Closet - yes that was fascinating... I'm not sure I have quite got my head around it all, but it is certainly another level / dimension of the kind of crap thrown at women. Hope that you will come back for whatever support we can give here ....

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 07/12/2016 12:39

The very fact that Stefonknee was urged to take a leadership role in his local transgender community reinforces my view that the MTT umbrella is now so huge that the small group of genuinely sex dysphoric men has been swamped by a range of fetishists.

Lesbian activist, Gallus Mag estimates that men who identify as lesbian now make up 80% of the MTT population, and describes lesbian groups as being under siege in a piece called War on Lesbian Culture. Any group who can look up to Stefonknee is not one I would tolerate being expected to share intimate space with.

Datun · 07/12/2016 12:26

And as he has regular incestuous sex with his stepfather while presenting as a six year old, shouldn't that stepfather be prosecuted for sex with a minor?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 07/12/2016 09:51

In presentation he's very like dear little Stefonknee who is a trans spokesperson in Toronto while also being a 6 year old girl, a raging narcissist and a toxic father to seven.

OlennasWimple · 07/12/2016 02:02

It'll be interesting to see how TRAs distance themselves from him...
