Anyone fancy a game of derailment bingo? Grin

Eyes down for a full house.

First to call it wins a year's supply of dungarees.

Oh yes, bonus points for the Diet Coke Ad! Grin

Lessthanaballpark · 25/11/2016 15:34

I'm not sure a Bingo card would be complete without a reference to the Diet Coke Ad. Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/11/2016 15:29

Enjoy. I have work.

KickAssAngel · 25/11/2016 15:28

I was in Canada (briefly) on Weds. I drove from Toronto to MI to get home for Thanksgiving. Then we did a British anti-Thanks by going for curry with a group of ex-pats.

Today is official slob day and avoiding the shops. I may get dressed, but then again ...

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/11/2016 15:28

I think it might be. I didn't get told off for calling 'sock puppets' at least. Thanks MNHQ.

KickAssAngel · 25/11/2016 15:26

Deleted, you say?

Is that a win?

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/11/2016 15:23

Oh, you're in the US of A. I'm in Canada. I did my best work last night and now the threads have been deleted!

KickAssAngel · 25/11/2016 15:22

Mrs TP. It's the day after Thanksgiving here. I need to feed DD at some point but I have almost zero responsibilities today. Shall we hop all over MN calling out misogyny?

TBH - DD can make her own food. I'm all yours.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/11/2016 14:42

I'm feeling scrappy at the moment. I'm engaging with everyone. Make me see sense!

NeverEverAnythingEver · 25/11/2016 07:49

Pooch Post the derailment bingo card! Then disengage.

PoochSmooch · 25/11/2016 06:33

(I'm not new, it's a NC).

KickAssAngel · 24/11/2016 16:34

I think that posting up the derailing bingo card straight after a derail post with the relevant sections named can do it. Makes it nice and clear that we've noticed and aren't just making shit up.

I do think that some people are so used to only talking about things from a male pov that they just don't even know what they're doing. To them, a conversation just somehow feels wrong unless they're hearing the male voice. A bit like people who find listening to women's voices painful.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/11/2016 15:14

Thanks Devi for the linky.

I agree that passive resistance might work better. But sometimes I just want to give someone the sharp edge of my keyboard.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 24/11/2016 07:44

Amy - I get what you mean about ignoring but I think it's always good for at least one post to take their argument apart, for any lurkers out there.

DeviTheGaelet · 24/11/2016 07:34

There are a few but mrstps is here

KickAssAngel · 24/11/2016 02:15

link to the winning thread or it didn't happen? (aka I cba to work out which thread it is)

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/11/2016 17:16

Some awesome red dungarees, a pair of DMs, and a lovely ethnic scarf woven by a Guatemalan women's fair trade collective are winging their way to you now. That's Christmas sorted. Grin

M0stlyHet · 23/11/2016 11:11

One thing which I think would be helpful would be not merely to try to ignore, but to engage with sensible posts. So when a GF tries an obvious derailment, scroll back through the thread to the last sensible comment, name-check the person in question, and respond to that sensible comment. Effectively try to talk over the heads of the derailers.

I quite fancy eastings and northings for the Bingo card - that would be suitably obscure.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/11/2016 11:01

The non-engagement is easy in the case where the first post is clearly trolly/goady - its the cases where initially the person appears to be trying to discuss the topic which tend to get derailed I think.

Yes, you are right of course, as is Amy when she says that of course posters should be defended from abuse. I guess, though, that once a bogus poster has trolled / derailed once I'm a bit more hesitant about giving them a second chance ...

NeverEverAnythingEver · 23/11/2016 10:36

I knew there would be an argument about coordinates! If feminists can't even unite on this trivial issue what can we agree on? Eh? Grin

How about the middle as (0,0)?

So SomeDyke on polar coordinates: (2,0). Wink

IAmAmy · 23/11/2016 08:30

I see what you both mean Selkie and Xenophile. It doesn't help to only ignore any challenges and is good to debate. Some though clearly have no intention of constructive debate. Having said that I appreciate it when posters have supported me when said people have had a go at what I've said so I should understand why people do respond to them, supporting other posters is important!

Spartacus that's what I thought. It's the derailing of threads which is exasperating, they take them in another direction to suit their own agenda away from what the topic actually is. Their input is also inane and offers nothing. They are getting close to a "house" though Grin

I'm definitely with Amy on this score. I think that engaging with them simply fuels their fires and takes energy away from women, directs it to men and keeps us from discussing issues that are key to us. Instead of considering (for example) how right wing misogynistic men operate (as Mrs TP's thread was asking) we ended up in a fight about issues that were set by men. I reckon one of these sends a thousand words

Hmm

or even a biscuit Biscuit (although I can't figure out the connection between a biscuit and 'no comment'.

Hopefully, lurkers will get drawn in to the nuances of debate and discussion ... for all we know the constant bickering with a bunch of bellends could be turning them away in droves (which is what our misogynistic little maties no doubt want).

Says me, anyway.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/11/2016 07:29

Re coordinates - cartesian with the origin bottom LHS fgs. Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 23/11/2016 07:28

Maybe we could persuade MNHQ that a high enough bingo score should lead to a ban. Hell, maybe it should even be in the talk guidelines...if you're on a thread and you indulge in several of these tactics then you're not interested in constructive engagement. You're not being clever, you're being boring and/or annoying.
