Great music by women

This may not be the right place or forum for this thread but just in case: I feel music is far too dominated by men. What great songs are there by women? I know most of my favourite songs are by women, I'd love to hear more.

I've just come across Rachel Platten's Fight Song and it put me in mind of @djlippy's Spotify Mumsnet list (which won't open at present) so I thought I'd drop this in here. :)

Nooo lass nooo. Literally the only bad beyonce live performance thanks to ed

Sorry I may have been ever so slightly, maybe just a teeny, little bit teasing there.

Is this better?

DJLippy · 29/06/2018 22:47

Mumsnet women made this awesome playlist of feminist music...

Resurrecting this thread with Beyonce (just for the OP in the Beyonce thread although I think this is a bit weird)

NoLoveofMine · 12/11/2017 00:50

Nearly a year since I started this thread and the great music keeps coming Grin

ON
THE
FLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR

NoLoveofMine · 11/11/2017 23:55

You listen to his lectures on life
Without one of your own
When he tells you "death is pure"
It reverberates right into your bones
So you ask him for information
On why he once wanted to die
And he gives you satisfaction
In whatever form he loves
To heal the wounds you have
And not to open any more
But that’s all he fucking did
When he fucked you on the floor
And you knew it was all an act
Then what are you crying for?
Yeah, if you knew it was all an act
Then what are you crying?
What did you think when you saw us?
"Oh, it might be fun"
I believed what he taught us
I believed in love

Believed in the chorus
Relieved in his touch
I hate when he chorused
Believe in us

BELIEVE IN US
BELIEVE IN THE
CHORUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

yawning801 thanks for the tip. I must confess I don't mind ABBA blaring out Grin

NoLoveofMine · 11/11/2017 10:05

Thanks for posting that Pansiesandredrosesandmarigolds, lots I need to endeavour to listen to on there.

Quentin thank you for the tip - you're right as well as I've just seen it was released the year before I was born! I'm listening now and most enjoying it.

SongsOfInnocencce that sounds excellent, I'll look it up on iPlayer once it's all been broadcast.

SongsOfInnocence · 11/11/2017 09:52

Inspired by this thread I’ve switched on BBC 6 Music and just caught the end of Mary Anne Hobbs interviewing Björk! Fascinating even in the tiny snippets I heard. Will have to look for the whole interview on iPlayer. The second part of the interview will be broadcast on the show tomorrow, 7-10am

Agnetha Faltskog from ABBA is an amazing writer and singer! She released a song in 2013 called "When You Really Loved Someone" and it's really great!

Was listening to No Scrubs by TLC this morning, seems very appropriate for the times so thought I'd add it the thread. Plus it's a song that's probably older than you @noloveofmine

Gentlemanjohn · 11/10/2017 15:36

Just discovered these two - couple of young girls who are doing dead interesting stuff.
