I might be alone in this, I hope not, but is anyone else disappointed by the slut shaming and vitriol aimed towards her?

Her husband is a disgusting reptile, that's a given. But in the last day or two I have seen her called a tramp, gold digger, whore, slag, dirty, and trash.

Today a 'feminist' page on FB - this one if you're interested www.facebook.com/feministnews.us/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE
published a meme about her basically laughing at how thick she supposedly is. What was particularly horrible were the comments underneath from women, all who you would assume to be feminists as they follow the page. Vile comments including 'I hope they wiped down the chair she sat on in the white house' and 'when do they install the stripper pole'.

I understand that feminism doesn't mean that all women are above reproach but really? We have a man in the White House who hates women, direct your hatred at him!

And tbh as she's married to DT I suspect her life isn't a picnic, he is a nasty bully.

It's teh patriarchy!

Women's "market value" is placed (traditionally) in their physical attractiveness. Men's is in their ability to be a "good provider". You can play round the edges of that with a wealthy older woman having a gigolo to carry her chips in the casino for her, but that's seen as sort of pitiable. Because it's against the "natural order" of things (not natural at all, but that's a separate thread).

That's why it functions the way that it does. I hope things are changing now that it's vastly more common for women to have independent means, but the cultural conditioning is only wearing away slowly.

IYonicAllAndIYonicNow · 23/11/2016 23:32

Men do not strut about in tight trousers to attract JE, because patriarchy,

Class analysis:
Women are the sex class; value is attributed to women, especially young women, in part on their attractiveness. Hence charming Twitter troll phrases like "too ugly to rape"

Stereotype:
Before Beckham became the ambassador of metrosexuality, there was a stereotype that a man grooming himself to be attractive was more likely to be gay than straight: male gaze rules in societal sexuality.

If you say anything else grow and i dont reply

I am not ignoring you...ive just gone to bed

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 23/11/2016 22:38

NAWALT Grin

Trouble is the only evidence i have for the 'fact' that more women try and bag a rich man is the daily mail, my dad, you and various men who appear to be very jealous (not including you or my dad in that group)

It seems to be "man he is an ugly fucker she must be after his money" rather than any other possible explanation

I do see what you are saying about Ched but

A) neither you nor i know what sort of attention Jesica Ennis gets in a club

B) she is married and married women are 'taken'

I think there is a very, very small minority of women that choose their partners based on money ....teeny tiny minority

So small that i dont even think its a thing

growapear · 23/11/2016 22:21

Part of the issue for me is that when wankstains like CE says "he could have any women he wanted", whereas not literally true, there would, I have no real doubt, been a line of women trying to attract his and his team mates attention when he went out - this is what happens to footballers, especially if they are well known, I've seen it first hand. I honestly do not understand why, and assumed it was all about money. Men for example to not strut about in tight trousers trying to catch Jessica Ennis's eye.

growapear · 23/11/2016 22:16

NAWALT Grin

Can you find the equivalent of the young women writing their mobile numbers in lipstick on a "supercar" ? Would you accept that more women deliberately try to "bag" a rich partner than men ?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 23/11/2016 21:58

Oh good lord Grin

It attracts some women...some

And some men flaunt their weath to get women and some men flaunt it to really piss other men off, some of them might do it because they love it

I love the word some

Some men are plonkers some men are not

Some women are plonkers some women are not

Rich kids of instragram...some rich kids flaunting their wealth...apparently

Although its probably fairer to say their parents wealth

growapear · 23/11/2016 21:43

To my knowledge I am unaware that women flaunt wealth in order to attract men, men do flaunt wealth because they know it attracts women. I'm wondering why this is - it is not because there are more rich men than there are rich women.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 23/11/2016 19:36

Absolutely lass

Teeny tiny

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/11/2016 19:20

I believe there are a minority of women who may act like that

A tiny minority and as per the examples on here many of the women have careers/ wealth in their own right and end up having happy and enduring marriages.

If there really are gold diggers out there they are a pretty inconsequential issue. I'd far rather just assume they are attracted to their partners for the myriad of reasons we all have than churn out misogynistic comments like "trophy wife"

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 23/11/2016 18:29

grow

I believe there are a minority of women who may act like that

I also believe that there are a minority of men who act like that as well...its just there are so many rich men compared to rich women

When i see some of the young men on someone like Madonnas arm or back in the day with some gay male stars...i think men are the same, they just dont get the same chances Grin

Elendon · 23/11/2016 18:24

Most certainly there are more rich men than rich women. It is undeniably stupid to think otherwise. And if anyone tries to argue otherwise, then they are undeniably stupid.

growapear · 23/11/2016 13:40

rufus

Thanks - yes I meant the way men conduct themselves around rich/famous women.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 23/11/2016 13:38

grow

Not having a pop

You said "the way some women behave around rich men...the way men conduct themselves around women"

Missing word being rich...might that be it? i am sure in the cases of rich women they have their 'hangers on'

growapear · 23/11/2016 13:25

Would you like to set a scale of how much difference in income is a genuine relationship and which is a trophy wife?

Ok, let me try saying it a different way, the way some women behave around rich men (and to some extent celebrities/boy bands/famous sports men) etc does not have a parallel in the way men conduct themselves around women.

I'm not about to get into a debate about whether this phenomenon exists or not, it seems to me self evident that it does.

What I'm wondering is whether "it's all mens fault" as usual, or whether women also share the blame in entrenching these stereotypes.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 23/11/2016 13:15

"Where women try and 'trade up'"

Hmm

I agree with yonic and i am interested in a reply to lass question, it would be interesting to see it quantified

Surely it shows that there are many more fuck off rich men to fuck off rich women...pay gap? Grin

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/11/2016 13:11

Would you like to set a scale of how much difference in income is a genuine relationship and which is a trophy wife?

I agree with Yonic it is very sexist.

growapear · 23/11/2016 12:28

Well Yonic I believe there is an element to our culture where women try and "trade up" e.g. by marrying a much richer man, There are of course good reasons for this beyond the lifestyle, however I note that the whole phenomenon is not true in reverse. Perhaps this is a throw back to a more patriarchal culture.

e.g. there was a program on last weekend about some bunch of utter tossers who drive super cars around knightsbridge, flaunting their wealth. Girls go along to this and write their phone numbers in lipstick on the cars, I cannot imagine this happening in reverse (not just because of the use of lipstick). Can you ? I guess you would probably say it is a symptom of our society that women can use their "sexual capital" in a way that men cannot or do not in order to "bag" a rich partner. I see "trophy wives" as part of this culture and I can't stand it.

IYonicAllAndIYonicNow · 23/11/2016 11:31

And I find the term trophy wife very sexist.

We are all attracted to a mixture of characteristics. Plenty of (rightful) criticism on here for cocklodgers and partners who need nannying through life.

One of the strengths of my relationship is that we take joint responsibility for earnings and for childcare. Others shape things differently.

Plenty of "WAGS" make money in their own right, through modelling, acting, singing. Louise Redknapp and Victoria Beckham spring to mind.

Melanie Trump was a model, not sure how "big league" but many models make a good living. As it's been reported that Trump would have been richer if he'd stuck his dad's money in tracker funds rather than his businesses, she may not even have been a worse "business" than him when she modelled.

IYonicAllAndIYonicNow · 23/11/2016 10:59

Well, maybe mcgee was seething internally for years, but i will assume she knows her own mind and take her reaction as sincere. Sounds like aherne and she got on well and aherne would have apologised if mcgee felt one was necessary.

My take on mcgee and Daniels is: A couple who met at work, like many others!

IYonicAllAndIYonicNow · 23/11/2016 10:56

IIRC, the Obamas had the same discussion about their girls finishing a school year in Chicago.

Elendon · 23/11/2016 10:54

My reading of the Aherne comment was that McGee was not in the least bit offended. She, McGee, knew exactly that there was going to be a bit of ribbing on the show. Also Aherne did say that McGee was one of the nicest persons she had interviewed.

Anyhow, Melania is not going to move into the White House because she wants her son to stay at his school, presumably in New York. Which I think is a great move.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/11/2016 10:09

I thought the Aherne comment was nasty and uncalled for and going for a cheap laugh. Debbie McGee took it in good part and spoke well of Aherne on her death but that's to her credit.

IYonicAllAndIYonicNow · 23/11/2016 10:05

Blatantly throw themselves, pear?

IYonicAllAndIYonicNow · 23/11/2016 10:03

Tbh lass, I took that as a fairly good natured joke from aherne rather than a sneer. IIRC, McGee laughed fairly hard at it at the time!
