Call yourself a feminist? Our transgender columnist Juno Dawson's here to see if you really pass the test

And calls women who don't "TERFs". Thanks, Glamour and Jo Elvin, thanks a lot.

Kennington, I don't. James Dawson was an educated man in his mid-30s when he decided to "become a woman". If he's that clueless and ignorant it's his own fault.

The comments are brilliant.

Yeah, my mum let me rifle through her drawer of barely used, old makeup, but that was about it.

She also taught me how to cook so I could manage at university, taught me how to do a budgeting spreadsheet, how to drive, how to wallpaper so it goes on straight. All whilst wearing sparkly nail varnish, flipping her hair about and interspersed with her tinkly laugh, natch.

Kennington · 05/11/2016 11:34

I feel a bit sorry for Juno. It does sound like she has no idea what feminism means and the reference to pre-op trans people in loos being the major issue is odd.
She refers to women in a reductive manner and then calls women cis. If she was referred to as a feminine male she wouldn't like it either.
Good Luck to her and her choices but dictating to women how we should feel is daft.
But this article raises debate and that is a good thing.

shins · 05/11/2016 11:33

The comments are fantastic. Not "hateful" but full of righteous anger.

DanaBarrett · 05/11/2016 11:26

Glamour aren't actually responding to much. It's quite telling that they really don't have a clue.

CancellyMcChequeface · 05/11/2016 11:22

Ah, I've figured it out - it was a browser issue. I switched to IE and can see them now. I'm pleased I did -the top comments to the article are very heartening.

Kat Brown's 'I'm sorry you feel that way about women' response is just bizarre. Confused

MrsJamin · 05/11/2016 11:21

Those articles are brilliant. Who the hell does Kat Brown think she is, saying "I'm sorry you feel this way about women"? Juno has obviously charmed the pants off the Glamour UK office and they are very keen to be cool and hip with the trans narrative. I wish Jo Elvin would respond to all the criticism, all she has done on Twitter today is to tweet a photo of her dog!

Kat Brown might as well have written #sorrynotsorry as her entire response.

venusinscorpio · 05/11/2016 11:00

I love the other 14 year old commenting. That must have taken the wind out of the first one's sails a bit, given that it's not all horrible old people who don't like Juno's column.

TheHiphopopotamus · 05/11/2016 10:46

She seems somewhat beleaguered by the reaction to the use of the term "TERF", and trots out some lame ass lines in response to the many complaints BTL

My 'favourite' line from Kat's response was 'I'm sorry you feel that way about women' Hmm

ageingrunner · 05/11/2016 10:36

Poor old Juno has transitioned just at the point where people are starting to wake up and smell the coffee. A few years ago very few would have dared to question his claim to womanhood. Too many women are reaching peak trans now and refusing to stfu about this bullshit

OlennasWimple · 05/11/2016 10:32

Cancelly - scroll past the related stories - the comments are right at the very bottom

OlennasWimple · 05/11/2016 10:27

Kat, the person in charge of the Glamour Twitter account, has responded to that piece by the social media editor linked to by Coco. (Kat is the Social Media Editor) She seems somewhat beleaguered by the reaction to the use of the term "TERF", and trots out some lame ass lines in response to the many complaints BTL.

I guess no publicity is bad publicity, but Glamour is getting more than its fair share right now

JedRambosteen · 05/11/2016 10:19

Which I am sure Glamour are loving - the clickthroughs to the article must be off the chart. Mind you, it had to be seen to be believed.

CancellyMcChequeface · 05/11/2016 10:18

Well, yes - I'm looking here: www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/features/living-travel/2016/11/what-it-means-to-be-a-real-feminist and there's just Juno Dawson's article and then 'related stories' at the bottom.

Cocolepew · 05/11/2016 10:14

I had to go onto the Glamour webpage to find them.

CancellyMcChequeface · 05/11/2016 10:12

I've just read through this thread - I can't see the comments section on the original article. Has it disappeared, or do I need to click somewhere on the page?

Cocolepew · 05/11/2016 09:55

social media editor comments on this piece

Cocolepew · 05/11/2016 09:50

juno has pissed off a lot of people

2kids2dogsnosense · 05/11/2016 09:48

So - as women achieve the same rights as men, men battle tooth and nail to maintain their dominant status - and if they means turning themselves into "women", then so be it.

Well - I suppose that none of us can deny that they are c*nts.

Geretrude · 05/11/2016 09:45

I think the 14 year old comments are all too real. I've read that thread about the 14 year old being bullied by her 'friends' for saying she's a lesbian so doesn't want to have a relationship with people with penises.

So much of this is homophobia and misogyny dressed up as political correctness. Teenagers have always kicked against the norms but with this, they get to feel really righteous at the same time

HermioneWeasley · 05/11/2016 09:40

I haven't bought Glamour (or any women's magazines) for a while, but the stuff advertised in there is usually pretty high end, not within the reach of your average 14 year old.

I wonder who their advertisers want them to appeal to?

Twogoats · 05/11/2016 09:31

Usually the free gift is good though... Although after this, the free gift better be fucking awesome!

BratFarrarsPony · 05/11/2016 09:26

The younger generation are unthinkingly 'right on' I am afraid. For example my friend's daughter who is 16 was subject to a barrage of 'you are transphobic' when she was the only one who said, no she did not want to be filmed at her school prom, because the BBC was interested in one trans person who would be there.
She had to be really brave to stick to her opinion.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 05/11/2016 09:16

What the fuck is this Glamour magazine? Isn't this the one who gave Bono and Caitlin Jenner Woman of the year? Is the editor trans or something? I have never read it and never will now.

I've got the rage re this article. Who actually believes this shit? I'm in the house on my own today and I have noone to rant to. Fucking fucking arsehole fucking stupid fucker.
