Speechless at the lack of quesitoning by the reporter about the assumptions on gender expressed by this mother. She is screwing up an already confused child, when all she needed to say was "girls can wear trousers and like Wolverine." I am going to complain to Radio 4.

I put in a complaint to BBC radio 4 about this. I feel very strongly about this matter. I bet I don't get a reply or they write back 'we do not tolerate transphobia at the BBC' or something, even though nothing I wrote was transphobic.

Mind I did ask them why they think airing programs glorifying child abuse is a good idea, given the recent abuse scandal they have been involved in.

Elendon · 21/09/2016 23:19

When I was a child there was this programme that had a bloke off TOTP on it. He smoked a cigar. He was allowed to do this in a TV studio with loads of kids on it. Sometimes the kids would sit on his knee, they often did so by being urged on by their parent. He fixed it for the children. They seemed to come from all sorts of backgrounds, but mainly disadvantaged ones.

This bloke turned out to be a sexual abuser. But his abuse and shame only came after he died. Loads of influential people knew he was a nasty person, but they did nothing about it.

No one goes to his grave.

On another forum I fell into conversation with a MTT talking about puberty blockers for boys, and he said had some very worrying opinions around not letting puberty 'spoil' their young bodies.

They always gloss over the fact that SRS uses the penis to create the wannabe vagina so a child who goes from blockers pre-puberty to hormones without their penis developing has no chance of ever looking even vaguely female bodied as an adult.

I don't want to bring up the subject again with her, but I am honestly wondering who made and distributed the film.

GIRES, Mermaids and Gendered Intelligence are the three I've seen preaching for trans education in schools most often. GIRES has non-binary and trans penguins aimed at educating 3-6-year-olds. Good stuff.

ScarfForAGiraffe · 21/09/2016 11:36

I was anxious when my 7 year old saw a cbbc programme about a trans child "they were born in the wrong body." she loves playing with boys, lego etc as I've brought her up to believe girls can do anything! I'm nervous she'll interpret this as "I'm really a boy" if schools start pedalling the gender stereotypes and "wrong body" stuff.

Here's how to complain about this programme. www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/ I have never in my whole life complained to the BBC. But this shit is going mainstream completely unchallenged. If enough of us do so, I hope they will at least consider the opposite view.

It is so sad. Women fought for the right to be recognised as people and to dismantle barriers built around sex. Women in other parts of the world are still fighting, and dying, for this right. And here we are, building them up again.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/09/2016 08:33

She came across as very narcissistic and Leo is following in her footsteps.

dailyfailplagiarism · 21/09/2016 02:39

This is sick.
It is coming across as the child being emotionally abused and manipulated by there parents. Mainly the mother.
Why is it ok to ask a ten year old if they are a boy or a girl every morning and if they are gay or not.
The mother continually talking about it at baby group ?
The mother appears to be a narcissist.

Kallyno · 20/09/2016 22:38

"Mum was completely on board. Totally interested." (from the article linked to)

I bet she was. Why oh why can't everyone see that this child is vulnerable and being manipulated by her parents?!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 20/09/2016 22:16

She sees no barriers to her because of her sex

And of course she should not. I don't think statements like "and the only way to attempt to escape a life of submission and pain, girls will say they're really boys" are at all helpful in encouraging girls to be confident.

Leo's mother however is something else-"out and proud as a vegetarian" fgs.

WinchesterWoman · 20/09/2016 21:22

I quite like it when children do that Cocoa. It's fun.

Cocoabutton · 20/09/2016 21:19

DD was allowed to play a male part in primary school. She sees no barriers to her because of her sex. She has a working professional single mother. She thinks the world is at her feet, and I hope it will be. No-one has told her she cannot fulfil her dreams because she is a girl.

Cocoabutton · 20/09/2016 21:13

She is in year 9. I don't want to bring up the subject again with her, but I am honestly wondering who made and distributed the film.

i just feel sad that this is the world she is growing up in; that I so fundamentally disagree with what she is being taught because she needs to make up her own mind. But it is so historically and culturally situated, and I see it as harmful. People are people.

HouseMouseQueen · 20/09/2016 21:12

I'm listening to this now and I'm quite disgusted. Kids are quite honest about mirroring back what society is telling them. This is why girls think they're boys, because we all know that femininity is a prison for girls and the only way to attempt to escape a life of submission and pain, girls will say they're really boys. They know the world opens up to them if they rid themselves of femininity. They might not be able to verbalize all the political and social implications but they say 'THIS FEELS WRONG.'

Yes! Femininity is a prison and 'IT FEELS WRONG.'

She wants to freely participate as a full human being and her teacher didn't take HER seriously when she wanted to try out for a 'boys part' in a play. Once you close off an avenue to a girl based on the fact she's a girl, you create more bars in that prison.

Her mother is completely uneducated on this subject. I hope mom finds a gender critical site ASAP. She said 'a MALE MIND.' WTF is that?

This little girl is rebelling against gender, not against her biology.

This is clear when she describes how she doesn't hate her body but she does hate what her body MEANS in society. She already knows at 10 yrs old that her growing breasts are going to be sexualized. That's why she talked about the fact that in a few years she 'wont' be able to get away with' wearing a sports shirt.

The reason she wants a 'middle body' is because she doesn't want to be hypersexualized. She knows that the moment her breasts grow that she will never be allowed to simply be human. She'll be hypersexualized and preyed upon by half the population. That's fucking scary as hell.

WinchesterWoman · 20/09/2016 21:03

Choc porridge that's just full on creepy

Batteriesallgone · 20/09/2016 20:58

How old is your DD Cocoa? I am Shock that kids in schools are being taught this

Amandahugandkisses · 20/09/2016 20:52

Leo's younger brother sounded like he was being brainwashed he kept saying "she" until his mother hissed at him to say "he" in the background.
I don't know where to begin at how awful that recording was. It sounded like a child being brainwashed.

smarterthanhim · 20/09/2016 20:45

I'm so glad to read this thread. I got into an argument at work about this and thought I was to odds with the whole world! It's regressive madness!

Cocoabutton · 20/09/2016 20:41

My DD was shown a video at school about a girl who from the age of two was saying she was a boy. Obviously it was about trans*.

I asked DD if there would be an issue if babies were not decked out in pink and blue from the year dot. I am SO angry. Not at DD but that this is being peddled in schools as the new orthodoxy. She says she feels like a girl. I said what does a girl feel like? You are [name].

I feel like I have opened my mouth and said heresy to her. She had her lost and crestfallen face. I feel so mean and out of step with the world, but people are people. When did I start inhabiting this place where you have to be a girl or boy, not just a child?

ChocChocPorridge · 20/09/2016 20:38

This is awful - who on earth, upon hearing their kid get frustrated that they can't play a male part because they're a girl, in a primary school play, thinks that the problem is with the girl, not with the school!

On another forum I fell into conversation with a MTT talking about puberty blockers for boys, and he said had some very worrying opinions around not letting puberty 'spoil' their young bodies. So I think there is also an element in the Trans community that has much more nefarious purposes for pushing trans at non-gender-conforming (ridiculous phrase - as if someone could produce any kind of list) kids.

Pirates in possession of a vagina Hmm

SomeDyke · 20/09/2016 20:05

My other post was supposed to be a question "Is this the same Leo?" rather than a statement -- but I'm pretty sure it is.

Just shows, given the previous reports of FtM and MtF trans kids in schools, how it is progressing to the non-binary as well.

Another bit of this that really annoys me is the appropriation of the issues surrounding intersex children. Given the struggles there to not operate on kids. What are we telling those kids?

Saying you're not a boy and not a girl to most people (unless you are actually intersex) this is just nonsensical. You are really one or the other. You could be a non-feminine, non-gender-conforming interesting type of girl who wanted to play Hamlet in the school play ('cos that's the best part not that I think 10 year olds are doing Hamlet but I can't think of a suitable play!). Doesn't mean you're not a girl just 'cos you don't feel like whatever it is society thinks a girl ought to feel like......

And honestly, if a kid said to me they weren't a boy or a girl, then I would logically expect that to mean they were intersex!

Xenophile · 20/09/2016 19:13

Not just that reason WW. Transing children 'validates' the 'born this way' or 'born in the wrong body' 'always been a woman' rhetoric that Gets spat at anyone daring to suggest that a man in a frock is just a man in a frock. If you can show that small children also think they're awful and wrong, then you can pretend that it's a normal part of humanity. No matter how much you fuck with the child's self image by telling them that they're 'wrong' though, eh? Angry
