Welcome, everybody.

Happy Friday.

OP posts:

I found a feminist at work but she's a libfem and all about privilege checking etc. I just can't talk on the same wavelength at all because everything important to me is white/cis/het/class privilege.
I'm just bamboozled that things I thought were quite simple (such as pornhub doing sex education = bad) are actually really not and I'm inadvertently being "SWERFY" and should STFU
Thank God for you guys Wine

Xenophile · 06/02/2017 17:25

You ok, Devi?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 06/02/2017 12:15

What's bugging you, Devi? BrewCake

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 06/02/2017 07:55

Gives Devi a big 2nd wave hug. Want to talk about it?

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2017 22:53

Hello! I'm a bit shell shocked at the moment. I don't get modern feminism :/ feeling a bit old. Maybe MN is an echo chamber and I've been getting toon comfortable here.

HelenDenver · 05/02/2017 10:42

A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle?

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2017 09:43

I was just reading a 'favourite quotes' thread - the usual range from the profound to the piffling, but I wondered if this pub should have a few chalked on the walls? If so, can I contribute '"Equal rights for others does not mean less rights for you. It's not pie"' ?

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2017 08:54

Some of us have been in the animal petting parlour instead of the pub.

HelenDenver · 05/02/2017 08:36

Hi Yet!

There was one last night, but it was properly amusing!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/02/2017 00:58

I didn't know Zombie, so I didn't want to be first to change the subject after the RIP posts... but I have been thinking that it is mercifully troll free out there at the moment! It's nice having the space to really converse.

HelenDenver · 05/02/2017 00:23

It's all very quiet. I think some people have gone to the Lamb and Flag...

NeverEverAnythingEver · 31/01/2017 08:55

Brew RIP.

Xenophile · 31/01/2017 07:46
Brew

I don't do wine, but she loved a nice brew anyway.

Rest in peace Zombie, until you get to boogie again in your stunning red dress.

M0stlyHet · 31/01/2017 07:09

Wine RIP Zombie. And hugs to your family - she was a remarkable woman and you must miss her so dreadfully.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/01/2017 23:30

WineRIP Zombie.

HelenDenver · 30/01/2017 23:28
Gin

Raises a glass to the memory of Zombie in The Bluestocking. Though not a regular here, many of us knew her elsewhere on MN through the years.

RIP.

Another reason to love Victoria Coren Mitchell!

Review of Nocturnal Animals ("with spoilers").

Gah!! Just caught a vagisil ad on telly. Happened to read the small print. "Contains lidocaine". So it stops itching - by anaesthetising your fanny. That's a brilliant idea. Not.

Sorry, rant over.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/01/2017 00:36

SmileI dont keep up with cinema much but that sound good!

M0stlyHet · 17/01/2017 23:14

Yay, look at this! Headline in the Washington post. (There's a thread somewhere else in FWR on this - but so far me and MrsTerryPratchett seem to be the only people getting excited about it.)

A movie about three black female mathematicians is beating Affleck and Scorsese at the box office

ChocChocPorridge · 17/01/2017 21:21

Grin Thanks Helen - it was a temporary sacrifice I assure you.

For Firefox, there's 'Yet another Remove it Permanently' plugin (and so, presumably, a 'Remove it Permanently' plugin) that takes XPath block expressions.

It also seems that AdBlockPlus might be able to do XPath blocking too (although it's more involved) if anyone is desparate.

HelenDenver · 17/01/2017 21:05

Choc

How awesome!

I forgive you for hiding me!

ChocChocPorridge · 17/01/2017 20:23

I bet there's plugins for other browsers (not the app unfortunately) - I used to use one on FireFox when I used it.

DeviTheGaelet · 17/01/2017 20:22

Wow! Need to try it
