Welcome, everybody.

Happy Friday.

Devi I enjoyed that article. It seems to me that she is not unaware of the fact that being white and "within acceptable norm" makes life a bit easier for her. Not sure what more she could have done for this specific project.

venusinscorpio · 05/03/2017 11:15

Sorry, I left out sexuality. Not intentional.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 05/03/2017 11:12

I don't usually watch television but I did last night and saw a deodorant ad that was all about armpits. Lots of different ones, but all of them hairless. Wax, shave, pluck the ad said.

I never think about my armpits. I spray deodorant on them but I have left them in their natural state since my teens. Am I that unusual?

I wax below the knee but otherwise my body hair is untouched. I have never had any complaints.

venusinscorpio · 05/03/2017 11:12

You can't argue with that level of stupid. I feel that as "intersectionality" is generally interpreted in this way, it's not for me. That doesn't mean I don't try to consider issues of race, poverty and disablism in my approach to feminism (not gender identity), but I don't think intersectional feminism was originally meant to be about shaming women and silencing them.

DeviTheGaelet · 05/03/2017 10:52

Actually it has really upset me, but also made me angry. I want to hear all women's voices and experiences, I think that's what feminism should be about. All the virtue signalling and infighting makes me sad to see as women should be supportive of each other. Also I think it makes feminism ineffective as no one is ever going to tick all those intersectional boxes.
I'm too second wave is the problem. Need a nice woman only meeting with body hair and lentils Grin

The power is amazing! Let me know what you think of it!!

BasketOfDeplorables · 02/03/2017 22:23

Has anyone read Cordelia Fine's new book? I saw a review the other day, but I don't really have time to read at the moment so have been on the same book for months.

HelenDenver · 02/03/2017 15:41

Ta - just bought it!

PoochSmooch · 02/03/2017 15:15

I haven't read it yet, but seen it recommended here - The Power by Naomi Alderman is currently only 1.99 on the kindle. Looking forward to reading it!

Large glass of white wine for the laydee, please Grin

HelenDenver · 28/02/2017 23:14
Grin
BasketOfDeplorables · 28/02/2017 21:54

Excellent plan NeverEver.

I would thank you, Helen, but I'm busy drinking this gin. It autocorrects to 'fun' on my phone...

NeverEverAnythingEver · 28/02/2017 21:29

When I was breastfeeding (more than a decade ago Shock) I made sure to consult many different midwives, and one said you must stick to red wine, and one said to stick to colourless alcohol Grin Shock so I had all the bases covered. Wink

Hello! Haven't been here for a long time. :)

Polidori · 28/02/2017 20:16

Evening. Doombar please. Are you doing food?

venusinscorpio · 27/02/2017 01:39

*trans board

venusinscorpio · 27/02/2017 01:38

Devi I do understand your frustration but I feel the transagenda is one of the most threatening things for women in a long time. I am very opposed to the idea of a trans thread where people can block it out and ignore it.

CharlieSierra · 26/02/2017 18:25

I not in favour of a trans board either. There are a lot of threads about it in FWR at the moment, understandably as its a massive issue for women's rights; I don't think that threads about other things turn into threads about trans issues though, so there should be no reason not to start them if you want to discuss something. Unless you are finding otherwise? If you mean that threads about other subjects aren't tending to gain as much traction, well I guess that people talk about the things which interest or concern them more.

Swipe left for the next trending thread
