Having been directed to this test by someone who has come to mn to enlighten us all as to how we are all wrong to think "trans are in league with the devil" (wtf?!) and how "yes gender is not provable, but neither is God and we all believe he is real" (again wtf?!), I decided to have a go. Apparently it is used as part of the diagnostic procedure, though this person does seem to be posting from Amercia.

I will warn you, it is a truly awfully written and unbelievably biased piece of bullshit, featuring spelling mistakes, leading questions, and at one point the wrong "there"!! It didn't take too long though, and thanks to it I now know that I am a man. There are issues with some questions raised that can easily be 'answered' by my asd, so it's a tad biased there too.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else fancied having a go at it too...

I guess a lot of Italian type names end in -o for males, and -a for females, and that pattern holds somewhat true for other European names enough that it's statistically likely that o people are male and a people are female.

I'm an elf. Which, conveniently also is a gender identity, elves usually being androgynous.
So I suppose I am somewhat trans? Or, like, non-binary?

BeyondASpecialSnowflake · 01/09/2016 19:03

I have one son with a vowel ending name and one without. It's the one without who I had the "is he trans" comments about, so at least I can now say, "no, his middle name doesn't end in a vowel and as such is suitably masculine"

Ffs, how ridiculous Grin

OP posts:
HemlockIsSpartacus · 01/09/2016 19:01

It's bizarre, I just cannot work out how a middle name can have any bearing on which gender someone thinks they are Confused

BeyondASpecialSnowflake · 01/09/2016 19:00

My middle name is Frances. My parents clearly had it in for me and I was always inevitably going to end up as ftt Grin

Fucks sake, is this test actually used seriously by people?! I can't see how it's any more useful than using something like this

MostlyHet · 01/09/2016 18:54

Fair point - but if we're going to actually answer it, surely the answer is..they don't meet because that would be a train crash?

Which is pretty much what that test is Grin

BeyondASpecialSnowflake · 01/09/2016 18:54

Grin na - remember men like things that go boom! We (I'm identifying as one now...) want the train to crash!! Big bada boom!!!

"Ah, but it doesn't ask "where, in terms of fraction of the journey, will they meet?", it asks "when will they meet?""

MostlyHet · 01/09/2016 18:43

Ah, but it doesn't ask "where, in terms of fraction of the journey, will they meet?", it asks "when will they meet?"

Basically, if d1 is the distance the first train travels, d2 is the distance the second train travels, and the time taken is t, you have 2 equations in 3 unknowns:

d1=45t
d2=80t

The most you can establish is that d1/d2=45/80 (or if you do a bit of re-arrangement, that the total distance D=125t)

It really is an ill-posed question

MangoMoon · 01/09/2016 18:35

I have a question!

Because I got androgynous & possible gender conflict (ANALYSIS: female to male cross dresser), does that mean I now don't have the mythical 'cis-privilege'??

So next time I am told to 'check my cis-privilege', I don't have to because I'm (apparently) gender-conflicted??
(Even though I didn't think I was before I did the test...!)

ErrolTheDragon · 01/09/2016 18:34

It crashed when I tried on my ipod just now. Want to try it later to see if I confuse it.

Is female 'cross dressing' a thing? Do they just mean wearing perfectly normal practical women's clothes by any chance?

tabulahrasa · 01/09/2016 18:27

"What's the train question supposed to show? You can't answer it without knowing the distance between NY and Baltimore, "

You don't need to answer it though - it's there (IMO) to see if you go, eek, maths, I can't do that, I'm a girl or of course I can do it even without all the relevant information because I'm so manly...or something.

MostlyHet · 01/09/2016 18:21

What a weird test. Going to do a stream-of-consciousness commentary on it as I go along.

What's the train question supposed to show? You can't answer it without knowing the distance between NY and Baltimore, but there is no "this question is ill-posed" option. The questions are designed for men (and weird ones at that - doing the cleaning in a French maid's outfit? WTAF). How long would it take you to identify someone on the phone by their voice? Erm, surely you'd just ask, but that isn't an option (maybe it was written by a bloke who adheres to the gender stereotype that "men never ask for directions" - actually, delete the "maybe" - I just got to the parking a car question Grin). Aha - an equal ops weirdo - test writer thinks one might get aroused by using power tools too. (Why, oh why, oh why is there no question about using power tools while wearing a French maid's outfit? He really missed a trick there...) Erm.. waking up with an erection? Excuse me, I don't have the equipment! Aroused by an ad for tampons... that'll be another WTAF moment from me then. Okay, lost patience at the breast feeding question which totally ignored the possibility that one might have... y'know... actually done so at some point!

My results (based on the third of questions I've answered before giving up)

"Shall I make a prediction, based on being shirt-haired, wearing jeans and loving physics, that that pile of horseshit would think I'm a boy?"

Well so far there's only 2 women...so possibly, but I have long hair and it thinks I'm lying about my sex, so God only knows, lol.

BombadierFritz · 01/09/2016 18:09

I hope liking soccer aka footie is the girlie girl option

Lancelottie · 01/09/2016 18:04

*short-haired. I don't go as far as hair shirts. Not that much of a maaan.

Lancelottie · 01/09/2016 18:04

I'm sorry, I just bailed out at the bloody stupid train problem, where they don't tell you what time either train started off (or whether they're on the same track).

DS is also particularly cross with that one.

Shall I make a prediction, based on being shirt-haired, wearing jeans and loving physics, that that pile of horseshit would think I'm a boy?

JinkxMonsoon · 01/09/2016 18:02

I found all the fetish/arousal questions rather interesting too, because I thought that contradicted the "born in the wrong body"/"ladybrain" argument.

BertrandRussell · 01/09/2016 17:51
