Lass, you're on another thread this evening supporting a woman who is being drawn into a classic patriarchal family structure. But you say here that women are at no disadvantage.

Your strong views on porn and prostitution show that you think that societal structures are damaging to women, but you're siding with itlall who says that women already have full equality.

I was going to reply at length but itall has covered it. I disagree with the way feminism is so negative. Some of the replies on the would you rather be a man thread were so depressing-and not for the reasons you might find them depressing.

Frankly the patriarchy can sit back and fold its arms and do nothing given there are so many women telling their daughters life will be shit and it's all stacked against them.

I've posted before about the entry criteria for being a feminist. I think you cannot call yourself a christian unless you believe that jesus was the son of god, and by extension that there is a god. To be a feminist, you must believe that women require more help than men in our society, (i.e. to get into employment, throughout education, quotas and the like), and that we live in a patriarchy, whatever you take that to mean exactly. You might agree with many things that feminists say, but unless you believe these fundamental things, you are not a feminist. In other words if you do not believe that you are at a significant sociological disadvantage by dint of your born sex, you are not a feminist.

When you say 'you don't age with a great deal of what's discussed on here' that, to me, equates to 'I don't agree with what the feminists are saying'.

Why do that? I'm really not into cookery but I don't feel the need to keep popping onto cookery threads and angrily keep telling them I disagree with their cookery methods.

The question of what is so off-putting about the term has been discussed many times on MN.

Alass, why not start a thread in chat, Aibu, or anywhere if you are that annoyed that threads in feminism keep er being hijacked by er feminists. Or perhaps ask Mumsnet if they could start a Woman's section for non-feminists that you and itall could dominate?

There are women who don't agree with the basic tenets of feminism and obviously they wouldn't want to call themselves feminist. But if you believe that women should have equal treatment in employment, education, society and in the law and autonomy over their bodies why would you not want to call yourself a feminist?

Posie, quite a few posters regularly and repetitively go onto the religious forum to tell people that there is no god.

No one said you were silly. This is a discussion forum. It is not a radical feminist forum. The idea that it is impossible to discuss issues such as abortion, porn , prostitution unless one is a "feminist " is so narrow minded.

I also don't understand why people who aren't feminist by their own admission come on threads here and either wilfully misunderstand or make snide comments about "feminists". If you aren't a feminist, piss off to chat and make your points over there rather than trolling threads here. Its frustrating
