A consultation is currently happening in Scotland to make charges to the laws around prostitution, brothel keeping and pimping. No matter what you think - it would be good to have your voice, experiences and opinions heard in this. They have just extended the deadline to the 8th December so if time has been an issue for you - you now have another week!

The safety of those working in the sex industry is far more important than your personal preferences of what you find disgusting

"The sex industry" is disgusting. As others have pointed the safety of prostitutes is best safe guarded by there being no "sex industry"

draemous · 10/12/2015 19:01

"I don't think dr is Sapphire "

Well done Sherlock.

Snowshimmer · 10/12/2015 19:01

Mumsnet must be seen as quite influential and powerful, or these non-Mners wouldn't bother to come here and triple post all over the place everytime prostitution is brought up on this board.

OneMoreCasualty · 10/12/2015 19:00

Actually, it was you calling her "fucking scum" that was the attack.

Luckily you'll be gone yet again soon so ta ra, chuck.

OneMoreCasualty · 10/12/2015 18:59

For avoidance of doubt, I don't think dr is Sapphire - that last post was a bit ambiguous.

draemous · 10/12/2015 18:58

I don't care if you interpret it as an "attack". People who use "rapist" as a defamatory unfounded insult need to be called out.

OneMoreCasualty · 10/12/2015 18:54

That would be another personal attack in a deeply unpleasant post, dr. You've been here often enough under multiple names to know the rules.

"police cannot just walk into brothels and look for trafficking victims. Because it is all oh so very legal. "

Trafficking for sex/labour is illegal in Germany.

VestalVirgin · 10/12/2015 18:33

Surely you all must be aware that prostitution is here to stay, so why not focus energies on helping actual victim's instead of a futile attempt to abolish something that you as an outsider are against but for many it's a happy way of life.
But of course trafficking is a portion of the industry so why not tackle that and help people who need and the most important thing 'want' help

That's the point - ever since prostitution was legalized in Germany, police cannot just walk into brothels and look for trafficking victims. Because it is all oh so very legal.
Such is the result of the "a job like any other" thinking. How can you tell us to "tackle that" but at the same time oppose legislation that would help in tackling that?

Your argumentation that "prostitution is here to stay" is nonsensical. I bet a lot of people thought that in Sweden, and see what has been done - it is not accepted anymore by the majority of the population.

Maybe it will help your understanding to tell you that I do not want to help you. I don't care about you.

If your beloved "job" has to go for the safety and wellbeing for all those trafficking victims, well, that is what I am going to fight for. You will just have to find another job.

"PlaysWellWithOthers" the mumsnet user who falsely makes rape allegations.

draemous · 10/12/2015 18:24

"OneMoreCasualty Thu 10-Dec-15 14:10:41
Calling posters a load of useless fools is a personal attack. I'm not going to report it because but it would be deleted if reported."

Perhaps you missed the post where a feminist on here made a false rape allegation against a user on here? Feminists might disagree but I think maliciously calling someone a rapist is far worse than calling someone a useless fool.

And I'm sure falsely calling someone a rapist online would be covered by libel/defamation laws.

draemous · 10/12/2015 18:21

"My husband finds prostitution disgusting because he finds the idea of renting women for sex and the men who do it disgusting."

Well personal opinions of what you or your husband find disgusting is not worth anything when it comes to deciding if the law should be changed or not.

The safety of those working in the sex industry is far more important than your personal preferences of what you find disgusting.

grimbletart · 10/12/2015 18:21

No Sapphire: I did not imply that. As in your defence of prostitution generally. Smile

My husband's reaction was in relation to the documentary about legal brothels in Germany.
His reaction to it was the same initial disbelief such conditions existed turning to shock as many FWR posters have expressed.

SapphireStarfish · 10/12/2015 17:53

Haha as in I'm really some coerced trafficking victim? Fortunately not
It's a shame that a sensible non extremist conversation about prostitution couldn't be had here. But thank you for the views anyway.
Clearly best to just accept we disagree, and that's fine,,spice of life and all that ,

grimbletart · 10/12/2015 17:44

It's generally that old cliché of if someone protests a tad too strongly it's suspicious

Yes, I agree.

But TBH, I'm getting the impression that applies to your vehement defence of prostitution too.

SapphireStarfish · 10/12/2015 17:41

Strange

OneMoreCasualty · 10/12/2015 17:38

Sapphire, you are quite difficult to talk to. I'm going to take a break.

SapphireStarfish · 10/12/2015 17:37

It's funny how many clients wives would probably think their husbands were of the same opinion as yours to be honest.
It's unusual for guys to be truly honest about their views on sex work in public.
All I can say is most clients I see are just ordinary, your brothers, guy on check out at sainsburys, accountants, boring old golfer dad's and bus drivers, they're all the average client.
It's generally that old cliché of if someone protests a tad too strongly it's suspicious

SapphireStarfish · 10/12/2015 17:32

Lass

The first part was regarding an ex and there were reasons and past history I gathered that was why he was behaving as such.

And your second point

Please tell me where I said that is the only possible reason someone would despise a sex worker?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 10/12/2015 17:28

I've known men despise me for what I do and I felt it was that way because of the freedom and independence I have which they didn't like

I rather doubt that is the reason. I have been financially independent my entire adult life. I'm aware many regular posters on here think I live in a bit of a bubble but I have never experienced being despised by men because of it.

some patriarchal men have a hatred/disgust for prostitution is because of the independence it brings some women?

My husband finds prostitution disgusting because he finds the idea of renting women for sex and the men who do it disgusting.

SapphireStarfish · 10/12/2015 17:26

None of my exes and me broke up bcos of sex work,? I think you've misunderstood there, wasn't with my ex at the time I thought he hated my independce from him
