Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is this parody? I hope it is. (Reproductive rights for people with testicles. What?)

"I can’t have babies. And no one in the reproductive justice movement is talking about this."

This complaint is uttered by a transwoman. I.e. biological male.

everydayfeminism.com/2015/11/trans-women-reproductive-justice/

Has any actual woman ever demanded that treatment for her very real infertility of her real female body be placed above issues like contraception and abortion in the feminist movement? I cannot remember even one such instance.

But here this transwoman is, and demands that feminism prioritize sperm banking.

I have clicked on the link to the artist person.

They seem to be saying that when a trans woman is producing sperm, she is pregnant.

Shallishanti · 16/11/2015 20:48

hey toffeepenny brilliant clip from the Life of Brian- how were they so prescient??

ToffeePenny · 16/11/2015 20:35

I do think sperm and egg-freezing (don't know the proper terms) should be included in the cost of hormone therapy for transition though (and included in the consideration of the cost before giving it).

I think this for any medical treatment that makes the taker sterile.

I don't think that's a feminist concern though.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 16/11/2015 20:33

No. Not a parody. Welcome to the wonderful world of transgenderism.

Frogs in boiling water anyone?

ToffeePenny · 16/11/2015 20:24

Reading the poem I had to watch Monty Python

Regarding Everyday Meninism, I found some rather sweet comic about a hairy girl who hated her monobrow until her mother took her to see the self-portraits of Frida Kahlo. That one was also written by a woman.

Most posts seem to be by males for males, though.

I thought that transwomen wanted to take HRT so that they looked less like men. And she's angry that this has the side effect of suppressing sperm production? Well, duh.

I think Luna needs to go back to school - she seems to be lacking in an understanding of basic biology.

And Everyday Feminism has long become a refuge for the batshit crazy transactivist - the women that work there are falling over themselves so much to be right on and supportive that they don't seem to realise the absurdity of 95% of what they post.

(love the username - but aren't you more of a "splat"? Wink )

Edeline: Yes, that is one of the reasons why I am glad surrogacy is illegal in Germany. As is organ trade.
While this is a bit illogical considering that prostitution is legal (prostitutes can get pregnant from "clients", so I fail to see how it is better than surrogacy), I won't complain about it anymore. Not when surrogacy so clearly enables men to appropriate women's bodies.

Edeline85 · 16/11/2015 19:46

Also note the complete erasure of the surrogate (ie the actual biological woman) in her narrative...but then, isn't that what most trans seem to want to do anyway?

It's completely narcissistic. 'She' talks about reproducing like a solo act. Arghh!!! I'm having a hulk!smash moment!

VestalVirgin · 16/11/2015 19:46

@whatdoIget: Well, you could have worded it nicer, but certainly, having intercourse with themselves is exactly what they would have to do to get themselves pregnant.

If that was possible, that is.

@Lass: I have found transmen to be altogether more believable in their transsexuality than transwomen. Must be because there is no female equivalent to an autogynephile and the transmen are all actual transsexuals.

Edeline85 · 16/11/2015 19:42

Why so coy with all the talk about 'her' pregnancy? Because we all know that is impossible - if 'she' can produce sperm, then logically 'she' lacks the necessary biology to carry a foetus. So what 'she' is talking about is surrogacy.

I have huge, huge issues with surrogacy. The idea of women's reproductivity being commercialised (at best) and exploited (at worst) terrifies me. This though...this is the ultimate in male entitlement. What 'she' is talking about is the complete appropriation of a woman's reproductivity.

I am beyond disgusted. This is just another penis-owner trying to control and exploit womanhood. Fuck this.

UnDeuxTroisCatsSank · 16/11/2015 19:35

When feminists accuse trans people of suffering from mental illness that means they feel profoundly they "are" or should be the other sex, they are booed and accused of being TERFS. But reading this article it is hard not to think some sort of mental distortion of facts and reality is at play.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 16/11/2015 19:34

"Where's the foetus going to gestate?! Are you going to keep it in a box??"

whatdoIget · 16/11/2015 19:25

Sorry that was meant to be a joke hope it hasn't offended anyone

whatdoIget · 16/11/2015 19:24

It sounds like they want to get themselves pregnant with their own sperm?! Well they can go fuck themself then

LassWiTheWeelStockitFarm · 16/11/2015 19:15

The writer could have made a perfectly reasonable case about the lack of affordable sperm and egg storage for any person who faces infertility because of medical treatment. And then stopped writing.

Whilst one might have less sympathy for the writer than one might have for say a man or woman facing infertility because of cancer treatment, it's not a ridiculous suggestion.

Interestingly in the recent Channel 4 programme about transmen one of the young men refused the option of having eggs stored as he felt the notion of becoming a genetic mother after he transitioned to a man was too weird to contemplate.

CrayonShavings · 16/11/2015 19:09

EF is becoming more and more like a parody site, did you see the one about changing the word 'ally' to 'turncoat'?

This one, however, really takes the appropriative biscuit.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 16/11/2015 19:04

Huh
What does she mean when she repeatedly talks about getting pregnant? Is this like the female penis and the hrt mesntrual cycle - ie renaming something completely incorrectly as a form of wish fulfilment?

LassWiTheWeelStockitFarm · 16/11/2015 18:56

I immediately knew that wasn’t an option, and that once again a financial barrier had come between me and my dreams

And that of course has never happened to any one else ever.

It sounds straight out of The Handmaid's Tale.
