Gender Identity Specialists warn of “ever increasing tide” of Transwoman Sex Offenders

The British Association of Gender Identity Specialists have agreed with radfems about the transgender movement attracting sexual predators. They claim to have dealt with an increasing number of incarcerated sexual predators who they believe to be pretend transexuals who wish to transition to gain special privileges and access vulnerable women. They are also worried that they have lost the right to not treat individuals who they believe are not really transgender or who will pose a threat once transitioned.

The relevant excerpt of their testimony to the parliamentary committee looking into the GRA is here at Gender Trender and the whole testimony can be found as a PDF here and makes for interesting reading.

"A person has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment if the person is proposing to undergo, is undergoing or has undergone a process (or part of a process) for the purpose of reassigning the person's sex by changing physiological or other attributes of sex."

My reading of this is that all you have to do to be classed as transgender and protected under the equality act is to tell a doctor that you are transgender and would like treatment.

Right now in the UK the gatekeepers are the clinicians, I don't think that anyone can just declare they are a woman can they? I thought at least some treatment/therapy of some sort was required? (I'm not in the UK anymore so could be wrong about that).

By the way I wasn't downplaying the report, I think it's fascinating, worrying and not really too surprising. A bit naive of the clinicians not to realise that there might be trouble ahead. I just think that it wasn't entirely honest to say that there was a rising tide of Transwoman Sex Offenders, because the implication is that more and more sex offenders are transwomen, when the sex offenders were all bog standard men when they committed their crimes.

Of course if large numbers of men successfully become classified as transwomen and get out and commit more crimes (which is quite possible) then there would indeed be a whole new group of criminal transwomen.

IrenetheQuaint · 13/09/2015 22:50

I thought that the Equality Act referred to trans people who were undergoing or had undergone a recognised course of treatment?

QueenStromba · 13/09/2015 22:38

I see it as a bit like the Catholic priesthood. Obviously not all Catholic priests are paedophiles but it's a position that was attractive to paedophiles due to the access to children and the fact that the church would cover for you and move you on if you got found out (I say was because things seem to be changing at last). Trans is the same. Not all trans are sexual predators but it's something that would be attractive to sexual predators because it gives access to vulnerable women and the trans propaganda machine will protect you if you are found out (as long as you are deemed proper trans).

That would be contravening The Equality Act Irene. Trans is a protected characteristic and that protection kicks in as soon as someone says they are trans.

Ego's solution was mandatory immediate hormones and surgery.

Commitment to some form of treatment programme (as ego mentioned earlier) is the obvious suggestion, isn't it? Would that be practicable?

The specialists do not believe that these individuals truly 'feel like women' or have dysmorphia.

What does that even mean though?

For any transwoman?

I mean, please, women are constantly told that we are being transphobic and "gatekeeping" womanhood when we question self identified transwomen's testimony that they feel like women but it is ok for everyone to do exactly the same thing to a person just because they happen to be in prison? Sorry but I'm sensing a jolly convenient hypocrisy here.

It seems a new rule has been added. So a woman is now someone who feels like a woman and who has an acceptable motive for saying so. I would like more clarity on what an acceptable motive is. Wanting earlier parole or housing in a women's prison are being presented as unacceptable motives. What about being sexually excited at the idea of oneself as a woman? Or being repulsed by the idea of oneself as a gay man? Are they acceptable motives?

QueenStromba · 13/09/2015 21:58

I wouldn't class 'ever increasing tide' as a particularly emotive phrase. I googled it to check the contexts it is used in and, along with references to terrorism etc, found it in sentences such as "You are constantly against the ever-increasing tide of other businesses competing for consumer attention." and "With its new breath of life however, La Belle Tortue Lodge is hoping to ride the ever-increasing tide of tourism arrivals in Seychelles ?? at its own turtle??s pace, naturally."

Then the report might have been better to say "it is a valid concern. ..

" an ever increasing tide...." is emotive.

QueenStromba · 13/09/2015 21:46

I agree that gendertrender is not misreporting as the transgender movement can't have it both ways. It was hailed as a wonderfully progressive thing that in Ireland you can now officially change your gender based on nothing but your own say so. We aren't even just expected to accept that males are transgender because they say they are, we are expected to accept that they are women just like we are. Since women who dare to stand up for sanity and say that men cannot be women are on the receiving end of a whole load of scary shit from trans people and their allies, trans people have no right to disown anyone who they think gives trans a bad name. We can't say that Janet Mock, for example, isn't really a woman but the transgender community can claim that Chris 'Jessica' Hambrook and his ilk aren't really trans? The hypocrisy is astounding.

The submission does use the expression "ever increasing tide" and Gendertrender is clear that the concern raised was men claiming the status for nefarious purposes. The submission is also clear that the claims are predominantly made by sex offenders.

FloraFox · 13/09/2015 19:50

But if a transwoman is any male person who says they identify as a woman, how can they be pretending?

ALassUnparalleled · 13/09/2015 19:47

I agree with Ego "ever increasing tide" is misreporting.

I knew about Lana Wanchovski but had never Googled her. She looks great and she looks as if she'd be fun to be around.

nooka · 13/09/2015 19:33

Oh and I think in this case Ego is right, gendertrender is misreporting. The 'ever increasing tide' is of men who have committed serious sexual crimes trying to access transgender services in order to claim transwomen status. The specialists do not believe that these individuals truly 'feel like women' or have dysmorphia.

The issue is with a model of care that is based on self validation. Which is interesting as presumably it is their (medical) model. It's also interesting as it appears to go against normal medical practice, at least in the UK where patients cannot demand the treatment of their choice against the opinion of their doctors.

nooka · 13/09/2015 19:24

Did anyone see the interview with Jenner on the Ellen show? It was a really interesting insight into the conservative/republican mind, someone who now identifies as a woman, has previously said that they were heterosexual (ie only interested in women) but who clearly has a real issue with homosexuality (ie really struggles with saying gay marriage is not just OK but a good thing). There is an interview with Ellen afterward which is also very interesting to watch.

RomComPhooey · 13/09/2015 19:19

Yes, unmistakably feminine but quirky and edgy, like you say. On camera, she was very much at ease.
