Ooh ooh! Do I get to start it?

Wine and cake all round. And a celebratory burst on the patriarchy-blasting cannon!

Old pub here

Thank you Buffy. It is good to meet you. I have seen you around.

Aaah that's better. I like bouncy castles. Not today. Another day.

Also I feel a bit confused about this pub we are in. Is it a pub or a treehouse? I am totally lost here.

I think I will just sit here with my lemonade and take it all in.

Hi folks.

It's been a rough day. I need to be here and have a long cool lemonade. I am glad this place exists.

Aaahhh.

LurcioAgain · 20/07/2016 20:55

A tree house in the pub beer-garden - perfect. Can we put a precautionary bouncy castle underneath it, just in case of too much beer/wine/gin accidents?

slightlyglitterbrained · 20/07/2016 20:39

KindDT That's interesting. I worry that DS, as a summer born boy, may not be held to the same standards of empathy and communication skills as his female classmates. We'll have to see how that goes when he starts school in Sept.

FreshwaterSelkie - it was well, well, overdue. He's apparently been flagrantly breaking Twitter's own rules for some time, but the persecution of Leslie Jones seems eventually to have pushed Twitter into action.

On that note, is anyone going to see Ghostbusters? I'd like to go see it - trying to work out if DS will be happy to go watch Finding Dory with his dad while I slip off to another screen or whether he'll kick off.

OublietteBravo · 20/07/2016 20:36

I think the cannon would need tethering to the tree house. Otherwise it might fall out when fired (I reckon the recoil would be quite violent). Perhaps it is safer to leave it in the pub...

Do goats eat like tree houses?

FreshwaterSelkie · 20/07/2016 18:37

I've brought some barbed wire and a flowery hand painted sign that says "No bois aloud".

In other news, I see that soi-disant arch troll Milo Yanno-thingy has been banned from Twitter. I don't twit myself, but I'm assuming this is good news for womankind?

JacquettaWoodville · 20/07/2016 17:16

Can't we leave the cannon in the pub? Take turns to woman the Vipers' Crows' Nest to look out for intruders?

Xenophile · 20/07/2016 17:08

I take it we don't need to discuss periods here then?

Right then, sisters. Do you wanna build a snowman treehouse?

VestalVirgin · 17/07/2016 22:08

Or is it just sitting at a desk tapping a keyboard that rightfully requires a penis?

I suspect that it is the earning a living wage part that requires a penis. Because if people with uteruses could earn a wage that a small family could comfortably live on then ... women might decide we don't need males.

JacquettaWoodville · 17/07/2016 21:00

That's interesting, KindDT

Further to my last posts in the old ones, I've been talking to my dh who deplores a lot about the way boys are brought up. He says anything that looks like empathy is stamped on

In the Times today there is an article about how, compared to little boys, little girls are read more stories (rather than factual books) and have nursery rhymes sung to them more with the result that the boys are far behind in their communication and understanding, potentially for ever. The recommenadtion is that people should treat their boys like girls on this score.

I don't dare link the rational male article in case it leads them back here. But he is not a rational male.
I'm trying to think of a way to restart the hating thread without bringing our pal onto it. It's been totally detailed now Angry

JacquettaWoodville · 17/07/2016 20:15

Ah, work is a male space, is it?

Wonder if the spinners, weavers and wool carders of old knew that? The crop-pickers, hearth cleaners and housekeepers? The governesses and the nuns? The nurses and the seamstresses?

Or is it just sitting at a desk tapping a keyboard that rightfully requires a penis?

is too much of a Lady to imply anything about penis size and key hitting ability

Felascloak · 17/07/2016 17:41

I read the rationale male article. Need some sort of revolted emoji......it was quite disturbing. Apparently work is a male space that we've infiltrated Hmm

FreshwaterSelkie · 17/07/2016 17:35

I know, what a weird thing to do for no discernible reason, eh? Grin

Those two articles were the beacon of sense in a sea of MRA dross.

Felascloak · 17/07/2016 17:22

Yes why were you looking that up? Grin

I just did the same. Really scary Shock

Found this though kareningalasmith.com/2013/12/16/thanks-and-all-but-no-thanks-i-dont-want-men-in-my-feminism/
www.feministtimes.com/space-invaders-men-in-feminist-spaces/

FreshwaterSelkie · 17/07/2016 16:52

So, I was just idly googling "when men invade feminist spaces", you know, for no reason whatsoever , and I was pretty shocked at the results I got back.

Of the first ten results, EIGHT of them linked to anti-feminist/anti-woman articles about how to exclude women from men's spaces, FIVE of which linked to overt MRA sites (Men Going Their Own Way, A Voice for Men and reddit MRA).

Page two contained much the same weighting, including offerings from such delights as Return of Kings (rape apologists), "Anti Feminist Tech", and "The Rational Male".

WTF?? I was kind of hoping for a few enlightened articles to mull over about the ways in which men and women take up space, physically and online, and it was entirely overrun by men's issues. I can't help but feel there's a point to be made there somewhere...Hmm

NeverEverAnythingEver · 14/07/2016 11:37
Grin

Of course we wash our hands.

The way I'm feeling now I'm inclined to wash my hands of everything...
