Ooh ooh! Do I get to start it?

Wine and cake all round. And a celebratory burst on the patriarchy-blasting cannon!

Old pub here

Hi coldcanary

Welcome to the pub. I am new here myself. It is interesting to hear your take on Gostbusters. The original is not really on my radar, and I am interested to find out whether the new film stands on its own.

For now though I am having a nice cup of camomile tea and pondering the meaning of my laundry which I outsourced this week being collected and delivered by a man.

I usually love doing laundry. However, a laundry crisis situation developed so we called upon [[https://www.laundryheap.com]] to avert it. So far, so clean clothes delivered at 11pm on a Sunday.

coldcanary · 24/07/2016 22:04

Fellascloak there are lots of lovely affectionate cameos in the film from as many of the original cast as they could get - I suppose in a way it could be seen as the original cast giving their blessing the new film (even Ray Parker Jr redid the song) & it's dedicated to Harold Ramis which was a lovely touch.
My problem with the film was that in the original the character quirks were just accepted and not made a big deal of, but in the remake the quirks seem to be exaggerated in an odd way.
Ok I've had wine & am probably not going to articulate myself well but it seemed that because they were women they had to exaggerate the quirkiness of the characters and make the fact that they are extremely intelligent seem weird.

Hoorah! The treehouse is a success!

Thelilywhite · 24/07/2016 21:26

Hello cold canary Welcome to the pub/Tree House. I don't post much but lurk a lot and have learned much ! Agree with what you said about ghost busters. Went to see it last night and it really lifted my spirits Grin

Felascloak · 24/07/2016 21:21

Hi canary! Maybe I will go and see it. Been putting it off because I love the original so much

coldcanary · 24/07/2016 21:16

Ok I've lurked long enough Smile
I've been on MN on and off for about 6 years under various flounces names and have only ever dipped my big toe into the feminist boards twice.
My 10 year old daughter loves Ghostbusters! I was sceptical as a huge fan of the original but after the first 5 minutes we were both hooked. Strong, clever and funny female characters and great special effects. Chris Hemsworth was utter rubbish but you can't have everything Grin keep with it because the first 5 minutes are frankly crap.
DD1 has watched the original and still prefers that one (as do I) but she really enjoyed it & is hoping for a sequel.

Hello! Yes I'm still here buffy! Sorry, it's been a busy few days. Just catching up now whilst the wee one's asleep.

ISaySteadyOn · 22/07/2016 12:15

Going by how I remember myself at 10, I would think so. There's no gore, just green slime and some cartoonily scary ghosts. I didn't see it in 3D though so the ghosts might be scarier then. Of course, I don't know your 10 yo so YMMV.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 22/07/2016 11:31

So is Ghostbuster good for a 10yo?

ISaySteadyOn · 21/07/2016 17:57

Settles in away from tree house edges. I saw Ghostbusters last night. I really enjoyed it. Much better than the original though I would have liked a bit less spectacle.

erinaceus · 21/07/2016 17:11

Thank you Buffy. I have a thread in mental health which explains where I am better.

Thank you for your understanding. I often get feedback that I come across as aggressive, which I find strange as I am not an aggressive person. I get told I am opinionated too. I have opinions Hmm

Learning: do not internalize Reddit. Sounds like a good learning to me.

Felascloak · 21/07/2016 11:34

That did not come out as well as it did in my head. Bollocks.

Sorry Buffy

I am all over the shop right now.

erinaceus · 21/07/2016 02:52

BuffytheReasonableFeminist

It's a pub, and we redesign it regularly.

FTFY, Buffy.

It is good to be here.

Thank you. I am just happy that the pub exists, has other people in it, and that the lights are on.

Hello Felascloak

Welcome to the pub-treehouse-still not quite sure to be honest. Would you like a drink?

Felascloak · 20/07/2016 22:59

Hi! I'm a bit scared of heights. I like goaty fuckers though heh heh.

JacquettaWoodville · 20/07/2016 22:44

And we are going on a family trip this weekend which will be nice.

JacquettaWoodville · 20/07/2016 22:43

Seneca, I think you are right!

Buffy, day was so so but am finally feeling cool after showering and sitting in front of a fan for 30 mins.

SenecaFalls · 20/07/2016 22:29

If memory serves (and that's a big if), I think the goat was a play on words, goady fucker/goaty fucker and the goat's job is to butt the goady fuckers out.

BOOM!

No intruders, just feeling exuberant.

OublietteBravo · 20/07/2016 22:02

Oh so that's where the cannon came from. Grin I never knew that.

JacquettaWoodville · 20/07/2016 22:02

Hiya Erin!

Shall we have the butterfly fairy lights or the red hot chilli ones, do you think?
