Ooh ooh! Do I get to start it?

Wine and cake all round. And a celebratory burst on the patriarchy-blasting cannon!

Old pub here

It's funny how the possession of female reproductive organs make you subject to catcalls and discrimination and all that shit though.

Confused
INickedAName · 03/09/2015 13:36

Found the pub again, it keeps dropping off the I'm On list.

My Dad said he couldn't come visit our home because "TomTom" can't find it. House was in middle of field and it didn't show on SatNavs when they first became popular, thing is, we had lived in that house for years before he got the TomTom and had done the journey many many times.

I can't tell you what it means, but I can tell you what it looks like: a facebook post saying "I am a man now" with a link to the NHS page on gender dysphoria, followed by a tendency to reframe discussions of biological sex categories as discussions of the trans experience. Also a statement that possession of female reproductive organs has no relevance to whether one is a man or a woman.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 03/09/2015 09:56

I don't really understand what it means to come out as a transman. Confused

NeverEverAnythingEver · 03/09/2015 09:56

Credit check is pretty mysterious. I was once refused a credit card because apparently I don't owe anyone any money. Hmm

FinglesMcStingles · 03/09/2015 09:08

I once failed a credit check with British Gas because they think my house - which has been here for nearly a hundred and thirty years - doesn't exist. Surely they should have figured out how to tie google earth into address registers somehow by now!

In other news, XSIL has just come out as a transman, and freely admits this is a recently made choice. Thanks to you lot I'm having real trouble resisting the urge to point out the ridiculousness. I just want to shake him and scream, 'biological sex isn't a costume you can swap at will!'

Thanks for the link!

DH used to work next to the DHL delivery/sorting office. They could see his office from their windows. But they couldn't deliver to it as they didn't have a record of it existing.

Not sure which is worse - denying an entire country, or a building right in front of your eyes.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 01/09/2015 20:38

My friend's local post office does not recognise South Korea. "There is no such place", they said. Beat that.

ChunkyPickle · 01/09/2015 14:06

I discovered that the local FedEx affiliate doesn't actually know how to send a letter with FedEx (!)

On the bright side, DP went to buy star wars Disney Infinity 3.0 figures, and came back with Yoda, and a female character I don't recognise because he thought he'd get a more balanced mix of female characters! It makes me smile when he thinks about the example we're setting our kids.

Wrote a long to-do list and done half of them. School looming. :(

Thanks, everyone. Smile

"Empathy, to a boy like me, is repeating what someone says back to them to display understanding and compassion."

Parrots do that, FFS.

Glad things are OK Seneca.

YonicScrewdriver · 29/08/2015 23:17

Back again, JS?

Relieved you are safe, Seneca. And that your DBro is well prepared!

SenecaFalls · 29/08/2015 23:13

I am relieved, but I've also been mindful that today is the 10th anniversary of the landfall of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana. My family has been very lucky; so many others have suffered terribly, and this anniversary must bring a lot of fresh grief. A solemn toast to those valiant folks.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 29/08/2015 22:55

I saw that Seneca, and I'm glad, I have family on both coasts of Fl and I always worry for them. This despite having lived there and knowing that they are super prepared, even down to having enormous generators ready to go.

jsommer7345 · 29/08/2015 22:13

Empathy, to a boy like me, is repeating what someone says back to them to display understanding and compassion. No, I cannot say I have ever seen this done by little boys or really supported by their adults around them. Empathy is very big thing in that you are actively listening and recieveing and then unselfishly relaying that information back to the person. I find this hard for any child, but yes - I would think it is more allowed in female groups than male groups... where self assertion is so important in becoming a successful human male... many times you are reward for asserting yourself or expressing yourself (I can see the adults rewarding a boy who yells or puts himself out there).

From my experience I have had to actually ask for empathy from my young boy nephew... Asking him to repeat what I just said... so no, I believe boys do not do this enough and they need to!

SenecaFalls · 29/08/2015 22:03

Thanks Lass. I think we are only going to get a lot of rain.

We've been helping my brother secure his boat, and then we are going to open his "hurricane kit" which mostly consists of red wine and some of Islay's best. Smile

ALassUnparalleled · 29/08/2015 21:46

I don't usually venture into the pub but hope all goes well Seneca
