I miss reading her posts and I've just seen on another thread that she deregged. Sad

I name change a lot and lurk more than I post on the feminist boards so buffy won't 'know' me but i miss her! (In a non-stalker way). If anyone speaks to her tell her to come back because some random on the internet said so!

Oh no. I had a break myself for a week and missed this. I hate to sound like an obituary but I loved Buffy's posts, always intelligent, thoughtful, calm under ridiculous pressure, remarkably humble too. She taught me so much. I would like to be more like that, at least in theory - the practice is beyond me! I hope she is happy wherever she is. For me this place just isn't the same without her. Take care, stay safe, be happy.

And pleeeeeeeaaaaasssssse come back .

Seeks out mustard stained clothing.

I can't wait until she comes back and we all have to sing about our feelings.

Shame to see her go, hopefully she'll come back sometime, I find your experience and knowledge very insightful as often many of your experiences etc I would never have acknowledged/though about with my man head on.

GwendolynMoon · 26/06/2015 12:06

I salute all the posters, Buffy included even if she is on a break, who so tirelessly argue and educate on these boards. I'm afraid I just don't have the patience (to argue that is, I certainly don't have the knowledge to educate but I am learning) but I really appreciate those who do and I have gained so much from reading FWR over the last 2 years or so.

UptheChimney · 24/06/2015 20:21

Just catching up really really shouldn't be here and that is sad. I read & lurk here in FWR more than post, but we'd had a couple of really useful exchanges, from which I learnt a lot & PM'd a bit about academia etc etc

I'm so sorry that she was tired by the harassment. OTOH, I bet she's getting on with stuff. Wish I could kick the MB addiction!

If anyone's in touch with her elsewhere, give her my best! From a raddled old feminist academic to an up & coming one

LuisGarcia · 18/06/2015 02:13

Thank you for all you've taught me, Buffy.

And Yonic and SGB and Puffins and ...everyone

PuffinsAreFictitious · 17/06/2015 21:33

My apologies Lass, the poster who made the original comment to Buffy was someone called Phaedra, who appears to have stopped posting now. It wasn't you who accused Buffy of supporting child abuse, rather it was the poster I've already named.

Hovis2001 · 17/06/2015 15:35

Oh, no! I'm another who has learnt a lot from Buffy. I remember reading her thread about her thesis and thinking I desperately wanted to read her 'alternate conclusion' (IIRC correctly she was writing a second conclusion as a piece of speculative fiction, as if she was writing in a world without patriarchy, thereby exploring how it shapes debate / styles of discourse...).

Best wishes to Buffy, wherever she may be! :)

Anniegetyourgun · 17/06/2015 10:03

My best wishes to Buffy too. No doubt she's keeping the faith in other arenas so the MRAs haven't won at all; she's just moved on, not given up. Let them waste their time dicking around on here, keeps 'em off the streets don't it?

Keepithidden · 17/06/2015 09:29

Another who misses Buffy, I learnt a lot from her. Hope you're happy and well Buffy. xx

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 17/06/2015 07:16

That's such a shame, I only talked to Buffy on one thread but she had such interesting opinions and arguements. Comes across as a really lovely and intelligent poster.

One of those people you would like to know in real life.

YonicScrewdriver · 16/06/2015 22:55

Lass

I didn't see the post but I know that you and I often have very different interpretations of responses to your posts. That may also be the case here.

I also think that, as Buffy didn't flounce, but quietly deregged, she would probably prefer this thread not to be ongoing, so I will try and bow out now.

UptoapointLordCopper · 16/06/2015 19:12

Saying that criticising someone behind their back is not right is not the same as saying that slagging off somebody to their face is acceptable.

staples765 · 16/06/2015 18:26

But slagging someone off when they are here is...acceptable!

LassUnparalleled · 16/06/2015 18:16

I should have commented when she made the comment at the time.

There was no need at all for her to refer to me in relation to the comment she was complaining about. I wasn't aware of who it was or what it was nor was I a party to it. I found it pretty distasteful.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 16/06/2015 17:59

Oh, and I agree that slagging someone off when you know they aren't here to rebut is distasteful. And childish. But not unexpected.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 16/06/2015 17:57

Of course you think that Lass. And the reasons are pretty obvious.

CollatalieSisters · 16/06/2015 15:07

Sorry, cross post, stupid phone.

CollatalieSisters · 16/06/2015 15:06

Lass, "sleight of hand attempt"?
Do you think it is fair to flatly declare another poster's intentions, especially apparent malintentions, when she is not here to defend/explain herself?

UptoapointLordCopper · 16/06/2015 15:03

Since she's not here to defend herself I don't think it's right to be posting criticism directed towards her.

LassUnparalleled · 16/06/2015 14:43

The last post Buffy addressed to me was a complaint that another poster had accused her of supporting child abuse and a rather sleight of hand attempt to link me to it.

Puffins Buffy was very happy to treat experiences which supported her view of women constantly living in a state of oppression as evidence of that but any experience which doesn't as being merely personal.

Personally I find posters like Yonic and Seneca ,Lurco ,BertrandRussell, whirlinggalaxy far more conducive to an interesting debate.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/06/2015 13:51

Nah - 'appreciation threads' are like funerals, for the benefit of those left behind not the dearly departed. Grin

If Buffy has gone to a better place, I'm happy for her.

But still hoping for reincarnation sometime...
