glosswatch.com/2015/03/03/do-all-feminists-think-like-rapists/

This is partly in response to a feminist activist who tweeted that "Rachel Hewitt thinks like a rapist" (Rachel Hewitt being the woman who wrote an article for the New Statesman saying that female-only spaces had helped her cope with the trauma of rape) twitter.com/stavvers/status/570246367140036608

So pleased her blog is back! Thoughts on this article?

Excellent response

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 05/03/2015 10:04

Glosswitch's response to OJ today.

Looking at the Twitter convo around OJ reminds me why I hate that site -- its like trying to shout through glass and then getting cut off mid-...

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 05/03/2015 07:44

That Libfem article rings very true for me too.
So pleased to see Glosswitch back, she is awesome.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 05/03/2015 06:53

Yy flora that's so useful to me, as only just realising I need to come out as a rad fem to a few friends, whose reaction will be interesting.

Seshata · 05/03/2015 04:01

So pleased glosswitch is back!

And thanks for posting that piece on liberal feminism flora. It mirrors my own thought process, with the exception that I was taught that gender is a cultural construct in first year anthropology at uni, so the gender identity aspect of liberal feminism always felt uncomfortable to me.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 05/03/2015 00:40

Oh my. She is fucking brilliant

As the Countess said, she nailed it... Aggain.

Uppatea · 04/03/2015 21:01

I discovered she was back today by optimistically clicking on a link I knew was going to a dead blog but clicking it anyway... Grin my attitude of denial sometimes has a happy outcome.

scallopsrgreat · 04/03/2015 20:23

I want to be Glosswitch when I grow up.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/03/2015 19:41

Bloody brilliant Annie. She nails it, as ever.

WoTmania · 04/03/2015 17:46

Love Glosswitch's writing and am glad she's back especially with such a fantastic post :)

HermioneWeasley · 04/03/2015 15:05

Hurrah, an articulate and thoughtful response.

BriarRainbowshimmer · 04/03/2015 14:56

I'm glad she is back and ok Smile

FloraFox · 04/03/2015 13:52

Glosswitch tweeted this wonderful blog (not from her):

liberationcollective.wordpress.com/2015/03/03/leaving-liberal-feminism/

I think stavvers is displaying narcissistic rage in this episode.

LurcioAgain · 04/03/2015 12:05

Glosswitch is back - happy dance!!!

ApocalypseThen · 04/03/2015 11:39

Delighted that Glosswitch is back. I've missed her writing.

OutsSelf · 04/03/2015 10:34

Yay Glosswitch. WTF is up with Staavers? Glosswitch is a great thinker and writer and thank god this hasn't shut her down. It's really telling when your effect on and response to women's issues is indistinguishable from that of an MRA extremist.

harrietTheFly · 04/03/2015 10:21

As "cis" even.

harrietTheFly · 04/03/2015 10:21

Yay I'm happy Glosswitch is back. I was really sad when I found out her blog had been taken down.

I don't know who stavvers is but I struggle to take seriously anyone who describes themselves as his.

She really said that about poor people and books? Good grief. Yy to Countess and I'm doing it too now!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/03/2015 22:29

The attacking soft targets is it exactly - rape victims, for instance.

Glosswitch's riposte was splendid - dignified and furious. Her writing has always been good but it gets better and better.

ArcheryAnnie · 03/03/2015 22:25

That's fair enough, OddFodd! Also you are right re childish and tiresome. I've met her type before - she's basically Rik from the Young Ones, clueless, relentlessly attention-seeking, tediously middle class (not an insult to anyone else, but relevant here as she is posing as a would-be revolutionary), more edgy than thou, doesn't bother trying to actually change anything, just does performative politicking against soft targets. I think my favourite stavvers moment (the point I unfollowed) was when she went on a rant about how showing photos of books discriminated against the poor, and real poor people had kindles as they didn't have the space for bookshelves. Or something. It wasn't that coherent. That's when I realised she was a batshit armchair-anarchist poseur who hadn't a fucking clue.

But back onto the real issue: Glosswitch is indeed ace. I hope she's managed to set up things whereby that Asshole Who Cannot Be Named can't get at her and her children.

OddFodd · 03/03/2015 22:08

Yes, you're probably right Annie. I would just like to celebrate the fact that glosswitch is back without having a whole thread focused on loonspuds.

stavvers seems like a teenager saying stupid and provocative things just to shock. I think she's really childish and tiresome. I hate the way twitter legitamises idiocy. Not having a go at you, just bewailing the nonsense of social media :)

ArcheryAnnie · 03/03/2015 21:50

Stavvers already has oxygen, OddFodd. I think it's important to someone who has 14 thousand followers, and a platform, to point out when she's talking misogynistic (and often homophobic) nonsense.
