This is the 17th incarnation of the Feminist Pub!

Here be goats, cannons and chat on feminism and related themes. Also snacks. And booze, copious booze.

Welcome!

Gibbering the more I read, the more I think this tiny vocal minority are just entitled, horrible individuals, whatever sex or gender they are. I really hope the police start to get involved at some point, and they're shown for what they are.

Enormouse that is shocking - sounds like in some ways NI hasn't emerged from the 70s, which perhaps shouldn't surprise us.

GibberingFlapdoodle · 25/02/2015 13:56

Should have said rUK obviously, but blimey NI does seem to be a world of it's own.

GibberingFlapdoodle · 25/02/2015 13:55

Northern Ireland sounds like a bloody awful place for women actually. It begins to seem like an embarassment to the UK and the UK is not exactly the best place to be born female.

I expect people are fed up of this, but I am realising that I've been underestimating this transactivist threat (not being on Twitter and the like) and I am absolutely horrified. This is just a handful of individuals out of a slightly bigger handful: why are they being allowed to hold the trump card when their rights intersect with women's? How did they ever get to feel so entitled if they're such a downtrodden group? This doxxing, harassment and threat business is terrorism and a threat to free speech no matter who is doing it to whom.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 25/02/2015 13:52

Angry My GP is big, admittedly, but I can get all those things on site at the GP.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 13:41

Penguins here's the full fee list for Marie Stopes www.mariestopes.org.uk/women/contraception/marie-stopes-contraception-care/marie-stopes-contraception-fees it is prohibitively expensive for most people. And I'd say completely out of reach for anyone on a low income.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 13:36

I could go to Marie stopes but the IUD is £106 and the Mirena £197 plus £64 for consult fee

NI is failing it's women in every respect.
I actually avoided applying for uni last year because I didn't want to be tied to the fuckhole place for the next 3 years. I intend to move when Mr M completes his MA.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 13:31

The gp is a one man affair in a tiny village, miles from the next village, with an occasional female locum in two or three days a fortnight. He's a pretty good gp so I'm loathe to change him.

I just have to suck it up and wait for the fpa appointment. And keep avoiding Mr Mouse. Too scared of ending up in the same situation if there's another condom failure.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 25/02/2015 13:31

So you can't get the coil or depo at all, have to wait ages for the implant, and then those fucking law makers have the fucking cheek to also limit access to legal termination.

Sorry. That was a bit of a rant. So angry on your behalf.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 13:27

I was after the coil or the implant. The pill doesn't agree with me. So I have to go to the family planning outpatients (where they only offer the implant) Hmm and I have that almost month long wait for a consultation.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 25/02/2015 13:18

He. You specified the sex.

Would changing GP help?

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 25/02/2015 13:17

Just the pill? is that normal in NI? I assumed you were after the coil or implant as I know some smaller gps don't fit them. He/she really limits you to one choice.Angry

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 25/02/2015 13:04

Copper wasn't it Duke of Norfolk who clearly couldn't imagine what sort of 'being' Cromwell was, as he wasn't a noble, so called him 'you ... person!' Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/02/2015 12:59

Protestant tradition a bit of a thing in my circle when I was growing up, and Luther was always The Good Guy, but I find I'm having to revise a lot of things ...

Damn! You go along living your life as a person and periodically somebody or something reminds you (and not in a good way) that you are only a woman.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 12:56

petula I thought that I'd be able to go home and then go to the gp and get my contraceptive of choice. Apparently not, he only prescribes the pill.
I'm just really pissed off. I went to the fpa clinic between lectures when I lived in London and got the depo injection.

Sounds like the kind of thing he'd say copper.

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/02/2015 12:51

I posted this on the Wolf Hall thread but thought maybe I should ask here too in case we have historians active here Smile: I read in Wolf Hall that Wolsey said that Luther said that you shouldn't mourn if your wife died in childbirth because she was doing what God intended (the giving birth, I guess, not the dying Hmm). Did Luther really say that?

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 25/02/2015 12:51

Hugs, Enormouse.

shitting hell enormouse it just adds insult to injury Sad

you shouldn't be in a position where you're trying to sort everything out at once whilst trying to hold it together to get through the travel, procedure, recovery and costs, or lose even more money

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 25/02/2015 12:40

How does Owen Jones' head not explode from being such a hypocrite?

Enormouse that's so crap, so frustrating they make it so difficult to access contraceptives.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 12:12

I thought that too freddie. I've just gotten off the phone to bpas and I'd be charged a similar amount to Marie stopes. I thought I'd be able to get LARC at a reduced amount as I had booked my termination with them.

Apparently not, their reduced fees only apply at the time of abortion.

I wish I had got it done then but I wasn't thinking straight and just wanted it all over with as quickly as possible.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 25/02/2015 11:53

That's ridiculous, Enormous - cheaper (but obv. not as convenient) to get on the next easyjet flight to Manchester.

PetulaGordino · 25/02/2015 11:51

it's like they don't want women to have control over their own fertility. oh wait...

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 11:44

Yep, only Thursdays for my nearest. And apparently, I was lucky to get an appointment in March. Some clinics are booked through till May.

PetulaGordino · 25/02/2015 11:41

1 afternoon a week?! Shock

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 11:16

19th March, the earliest appointment for a consultation they can give me. Fucking hell. That or cough up about £175 to get an implant fitted at Marie Stopes in Belfast. Oh and £64 for the consultation on top.

Fuck me.

Enormouse · 25/02/2015 11:09

Your dd sounds fab. I went from bum length hair to shoulder length-ish at a similar age and I loved it. No more massive weight pulling on my head and giving me headaches, no getting up early to brush and plait it, no staying up waiting for it to dry. Practically everyone was complimentary.

I need a mini rant today. Trying to phone the local family planning clinic to book an appointment for nearly an hour. Line constantly busy, but I'm not surprised. The booking line is only open in the morning, and the clinic only open 1 afternoon a week. Bloody NI. Of all places that could do with family planning being more accessible.
