Very quietly, it would appear.

Given that the original notion was in the Times, I don't think it's unreasonable for people to assume there was truth in the rumour. Obviously it is clear that was a double-bluff, so all those who guessed can feel superior

fayyive · 22/01/2015 00:35

I think RM wanted everyone to think Page 3 had ended.

Possibly because he wanted to see the reaction, and very possibly also because he decided to have a bit of fun and toy with people who want the end of Page 3.

I bet he's having a little giggle to himself inbetween sips of his cocktail in his big mansion.

GingerCuddleMonster · 22/01/2015 00:24

though I don't condone page 3, this has been played very well by the paper/business. I think old RM may have read the art of war Shock.

"If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant."

fayyive · 22/01/2015 00:08

oh you already know. teach me for not reading

Page 3 lives!

I told you so! Don't assume anything until you hear actual confirmation from a proper source.

Quote from Thu's Page 3:
“Further to recent reports in all other media outlets, we would like to clarify that this is Page 3 and this is a picture of Nicole, 22, from Bournemouth. " -accompanied with a topless photo of Nicole, on page 3 "between page 2 and page 4" exactly as Murdoch said.

AWholeLottaNosy · 21/01/2015 23:52

Just read this. Cunts.

BobbyDarin · 21/01/2015 23:22

The Sun couldn't afford to look like losers. But printing it tomorrow doesn't mean it's going to get printed again on Monday, for example.

KarmaViolet · 21/01/2015 23:20

Yes. And at least poor Nicole won't be destitute and sent to the workhouse because according to twitter that's what was going to happen if page 3 was abolished. Hmm

PuffinsAreFictitious · 21/01/2015 23:13

Well, Birdo will be pleased that he can get a little tingle over his cornflakes tomorrow.

So pleased for him Hmm

meglet · 21/01/2015 23:08

I've just seen this on twitter. Murdoch is a warped piece of work.

PetulaGordino · 21/01/2015 23:07

Ah well that's two fingers up at us isn't it

KarmaViolet · 21/01/2015 23:01

Sun's page 3 tomorrow (picture with the text "Further to reports in other media outlets, we would like to clarify that this is page 3 and this is a picture of Nicole, 22, from Bournemouth. We would like to apologise on behalf of [sic] the print and broadcast journalists who have spent the last two days talking about us.")

KarmaViolet · 21/01/2015 22:57

Apparently Page 3 is returning tomorrow.

PhaedraIsMyName · 21/01/2015 20:48

Would The Star's lower sales be anything to do with its explicit cover pictures? I usually cover The Star up with a Guardian or a Telegraph if it's on sale.

I wonder if Sun readers actually realise sitting reading the Star in public with its porn covers is too much?

YonicScrewdriver · 21/01/2015 20:45

Ok, well, I think it's pretty cool, so let's agree to differ.

TheHoundsBitch · 21/01/2015 20:42

I don't think it is any better for 13 year old girls if there are still women in their underwear on Page 3.

BruceTwee · 21/01/2015 20:42

I'm with you TheHounds

Yonic

I thought it was about context and the fact that the women are on page 3 solely for the purposes of male pleasure. I understand what you're saying about the 8 year old scenario but isn't it ultimately about changing societal attitudes about men gawping at pictures of women?

In this respect I think a point has been made, and hats off to the campaigners, but in five years time I'm wondering if we'll be questioning what has actually been achieved.

Apologies if I sound like I'm getting down on on the work done so far.

TheHoundsBitch · 21/01/2015 20:41

I'm not worried about my DC seeing nipples/ nudity, I am worried about him seeing pictures of women in a purely decorative, sexualised context. Which is what page 3 is even if their nipples are covered.

YonicScrewdriver · 21/01/2015 20:39

Yup.

It's still better for the future 13 year old girl though.

TheHoundsBitch · 21/01/2015 20:37

It's not about egos though, they are still objectifying women, just covering their nipples. Women in bikinis have a place in holiday ads though, they are there to illustrate being on the beach/ by the pool/ whatever as well as for titillation, whereas 'Page 3 girls' (nipples covered or not) are there purely for men to look at.

YonicScrewdriver · 21/01/2015 20:24

But... In five years' time, today's 8 year olds won't know anything about that, they'll just know the man on the bus is looking at a bikini picture, which at least are in other places like holiday ads.

Egos and who has won don't matter.

TheHoundsBitch · 21/01/2015 20:17

That's just what I said upthread Bruce. It's insulting.
