Very quietly, it would appear.

"I don't like it but it's not a reason to ban it."

No one is banning it. The campaign is asking the Sun (very politely) to pull a feature. The government isn't banning it. Ofcom isn't banning it. We are asking the editor to make a voluntary business decision.

chocoluvva · 23/01/2015 14:11

The NMP3 has simply asked for it to be discontinued.

And for the sun to be displayed with Nuts, etc on a high shelf- rather than at eye-level with children.

EveDallasRetd · 23/01/2015 13:44

The NMP3 campaign has never asked for it to be banned. Never.

Did anyone see Dylan Sharpes Apology(NonApology). What a load of whiney pissbaby toss.

(In other good news, by midnight last night the petition had got 18,000 new signatures Smile)

purpleponcho · 23/01/2015 13:38

I don't like it but it's not a reason to ban it.

I vote with my feet. Crap paper, not worth 10p, let alone 40.

I expect the print media are all going to have to do a bit better than they currently are to survive.

Which one is going to be the bravest and start reporting actual fucking news again? That's what interests me, tbh. Not a pair of tits (and I'mnot talking about Cameron and Clegg...).

alicemalice · 23/01/2015 13:38

That's not a bad policy mengog.

Mengog · 23/01/2015 13:25

Miranda Kerr is on page 3.

I think The Sun will never officially scrap it. They will try and quietly phase it out, I think people should let it.

alicemalice · 23/01/2015 13:17

Apparently not, ladyblahblah.

They often miss days. Suspect the gaps will get longer between when they feature it.

magicpixie · 23/01/2015 13:16

hopefully the paper will go bust now

LadyBlaBlah · 23/01/2015 13:15

Re earlier posts....is there a page 3 girl in today's edition??

SauceForTheGander · 23/01/2015 13:08

The way the head of PR Dyl has behaved on Twitter has made me think the whole paper should be scrapped.

ChocLover2015 · 23/01/2015 12:53

no publicity is bad publicity.they have certainly kept us talking about them this last week!

I am absolutely disgusted by the actions of that revolting, evil rag. These shameful men have treated women with absolute contempt...what kind of society do we live in where women are seen as nothing but objects of mockery and there to be humiliated, with OUR bodies used as THEIR weapons to hurt us with. I am not sure my opinion of men can get any lower right now. It feels like a personal attack.

^ This is exactly how I feel about all of this.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 23/01/2015 11:11

I did feel the celebrations were premature as I knew the Sun wouldn't want to let the 'feminazis' win. I didn't expect they'd pull this stunt though.
I doubt it was planned, I think it was just a last minute fuck-you.

I think it will gradually fade out and be replaced by wet t.shirts or arses or something equally wonderful.
Ive heard that no one working on the paper wants it or likes it - but they put it in there for white van man as they are so afraid of losing him.

chocoluvva · 23/01/2015 10:26

No page 3 nudity today - hurrah.

I think it's probably on its way out too. Not only do they not need page 3 for sales, but some outlets deliberately don't stock the sun because of page 3. It's not in its interests.

I repeat - the NMP3 campaign has got the dreadful way women are portrayed in the media into the media. And that will probably be a good thing.

Event on Sunday to protest against the Sun

ClaudetteWyms · 23/01/2015 10:18

I signed the NMP3 petition and was "against" it, but I have to say that in the scheme of things it's not something that bothered me massively. Now it really really fucking bothers me, the S*n's behaviour this week is beyond contempt and shows what they really think of women.

I have even been on some S*n holidays (cheap and cheerful), but will not do that any more (I did get the codes off MSE rather than paying for the rag, but still).

Utter cunts.

alicemalice · 23/01/2015 10:18

Hi all, have messaged MN to see if they can let us have a sticky or group or something. Will talk to NMP3 crowd too.

There's no page 3 nudity today.

I do still think it's on its way out tbh. Think the Sun were planning to drop it quietly and the story got leaked to the Guardian. They didn't like that. But hopefully the long term plan to let it slide remains. This is gleaned from reading comments from journos on Twitter.

chocoluvva · 23/01/2015 10:15

alice - good idea.

Off to google today's sun to see if there's a 'page 3' girl today.....

Olbasaddict · 23/01/2015 10:01

That is a great idea. I feel galvanised. I always hated page 3....I remember sitting in the maternity dept when pregnant with my last baby, and a man came in with his partner and young daughter, and he sat beside me. He opened his copy of the S*n, and sat at page 3 for ages. This absolute fuck of a man was surrounded by women who were feeling anxious and vulnerable, and cared NOTHING for how we might feel at his repulsive behaviour. Not to mention his pregnant partner and his little girl.

Right there was everything I loathe about readers of this rag and defenders of page 3.

Good to hear, house.

Yes, the bikini idea would have been shit. But better than my 15 year old niece having to sit next to a bare boobs perusal on the bus.

Could we have a permanent NMP3 and media sexism group on mumsnet? I think this latest stunt has galvanised many of us. I know MN supports NMP3 officially but just trying to think what we can do next.

GoldfishSpy · 23/01/2015 08:57

Rupert Murdoch, for example, is an arsebadger.

Olbasaddict · 22/01/2015 21:52

I caught Pause for Thought today going to work, and the guest was Ruth Scott, who was talking about women's equality. She quoted Sarah Grimke, and I thought it was quite apt on a day where men have sought to quash women.
"...I ask no favors for my sex. I surrender not our claim to equality. All I ask of our brethren is, that they will take their feet from off our necks, and permit us to stand upright on that ground which God designed us to occupy."
