Has anyone taught themselves how to lift one eyebrow or is it something you are born with?

My friend can do this Hmm but I can't. She has always been able to do it apparently. I wish I could because it seems like such a good social skill to have.

Would I be wasting my time trying to do eyebrow lift exercises? And yes, I probably do have too much time on my hands at the moment to be contemplating this.

I taught myself. My DH taught himself how to do it as he recognised how devastatingly effective it is.

I regularly 'parent by eyebrow' Smile

Psipsina · 21/03/2015 18:51

I've always been able to but didn't realise it was unusual till I was 10 and my sister told me I was weird.

mamakoukla · 29/01/2015 23:37

I taught myself after I thought Roger Moore's raised eyebrow looked cool DD is a natural or picked it up from me. Eyebrow has since developed its own brain and DH uses it as a mood barometer of sorts

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2015 23:31

But can you salute Spock appropriately Cpt?

I can only do my my right eyebrow and sneer on the left side!

CaptainJamesTKirk · 29/01/2015 23:19

Don't ask me... I can't even wink. :(

LiselotteHampton · 29/01/2015 23:17

I thought everyone could do this!

IrenetheQuaint · 29/01/2015 23:15

Excellent thread.

I spent ages trying to train my eyebrows in my teens but with no successSad

debbriana · 29/01/2015 23:10

I didn't mean shit. It's meant to be shut.

ScrambledSmegs · 29/01/2015 23:09

I can if I really concentrate, but it's 50:50 whether I give myself a headache.

Worth it though.

debbriana · 29/01/2015 23:05

Relax, calm down then try. Practice using one eye closed. Shit the weaker one. Open the eyelid that is stronger. My is my left even though am right handed.

Can you raise both eyebrows ? Try that too then drop the weaker one

Another way. Lift both eyebrows. Then look to the side.

When you are lifting your eyebrow, make sure you frown at the same time.

1: lift eyebrow
2: two frown
3: drop one like you are going to squint but try and keep it open.

I can't believe how long it took to explain this. I hope it helps.

PhaedraIsMyName · 25/01/2015 03:22

I taught myself. The left one. It is very effective.

alsmutko · 16/01/2015 19:00

I remember my dad saying 'that's nothing, I can do both at the same time'.

CatsClaus · 16/01/2015 18:53

i have to raise them both and then drop one...for some reason I cannot raise one alone.

there was a thread fairly recently about this and lots of folks had taught themselves to do it.

"parenting by eyebrow" ....was mentioned and it made me laugh :o It's a very excellent skill!

BertieBotts · 16/01/2015 18:50

I taught myself.

I think we should all engender this as some kind of pavlovian response to sexism for our offspring. That way the feminist cause is furthered Grin

RawCoconutMacaroon · 16/01/2015 18:47

Not only can I raise an eyebrow, for extra emphasis, I can lower the other one if required! Iirc, it's just something I've always been able to do.

LizzieMint · 16/01/2015 18:35

I taught myself when I was younger. It is very good for quelling. I can only do one side though

AuntieStella · 16/01/2015 18:32
Hmm

I can do it, and don't remember ever deliberately learning.

DC can't, despite valiant efforts.

alsmutko · 16/01/2015 18:30

Cuttedup - I can do the Elvis sneer as well but only on the right side. The left eyebrow I can raise but not the left. It's curious.
Anyway, it's great fun to be able to raise one eyebrow & say 'illogical captain'.

Bluestocking · 28/12/2014 16:02

Great feminist topic! I can't do this at all but often wish I could when faced with a chronic mansplainer.

Shallishanti · 28/12/2014 16:02

definitely a feminist issue. Nothing says
'Really??'
like a raised eyebrow

thenightsky · 28/12/2014 16:00

DD has been able to do it from birth. First time I noticed was when she was in her moses basket at about 5 weeks old Grin She is the only family member on either side to have this ability, so I can only assume it's not inherited and just some random muscle/nerve thing.

iseenodust · 28/12/2014 15:57

Just always been able to do it. Has a very useful quelling property I've found but now DS can do it back at me. But DH can't do it to either of us. Xmas Grin

BrightestAndBest · 28/12/2014 15:08

I can't do it (but wish I could). DS on the other hand has seemingly always been able to.

msrisotto · 28/12/2014 15:01

I can do it much better/more easily with one eyebrow than the other Hmm

CuttedUpPear · 28/12/2014 14:56

About time this important feminist matter was raised.

I think I can still do it (it's been a long time since it was required) but had to practise in a mirror first.

I can do a a great one-sided Elvis lip sneer if that helps.
