Why don't men care..?

Why do men care so much about football ( and other sports), Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, computer games etc but not give a fuck about violence against women? ( which is real and life destroying) Why do they want to be heroes in a virtual life but not the real one? I know this may be a bit controversial but it genuinely puzzles me.,,

Opining that men are responsible for male violence against other men, is not being dismissive of that violence.

It is putting the responsibility for dealing with it, where it belongs - with men.

That's not dismissing it.

Not sure about that one either lightening! Just before our friend weighs back in. Both male and female children are at risk of sexual abuse, although female children get an extra additional amount when they get bigger as most street type sexual stuff seems to be against females and commencing around puberty.

Also male on male (adult) sexual violence is not exactly unheard of.

It's all just horribly toxic isn't it and the problem is men who are violent causing such a lot of harm and grief in society, often the men who are engaging in a fight down the pub are the same ones as going home and beating up their children & partner, sexual violence as an expression of power is going to be in there as well. Basically there are just quite a lot of nasty fuckers about.

Then you've got the blokes who think they are "nice" and yet are committing sex offences and I don't even know what to do with that, education I guess is the only way forward and changing society so that certain things are not seen as acceptable or desirable behaviour.

LightningOnlyStrikesOnce · 26/12/2014 17:56

...about the ordinary violence levels anyway... sexual crimes are nearly always perpetrated against women by men.

LightningOnlyStrikesOnce · 26/12/2014 17:53

Ok BobbyBingoo you were right there I was wrong. But like the others said, it ain't women doing it. It's men who perpetrate violence, almost exclusively.

AskBasil4StuffingRecipe · 26/12/2014 17:42

Yeah, apparently we're supposed to stop men killing each other.

It's not up to men to stop each other. It's up to us.

Then only once we've sorted out men's problems, can we concentrate on our's.

And not before.

And it's not their job to sort out their shit or our's. Just our's to sort out all the shit. Whoever's causing it.

Entitlement, what's that?

PuffinsAreFictitious · 26/12/2014 17:24

True.

Inconvenient for those men who want us to concentrate on them though.

AskBasil4StuffingRecipe · 26/12/2014 17:19

Also more men than women are assaulted, only if you take sexual assaults out of the figures.

When you put them back in, more women are assaulted.

AskBasil4StuffingRecipe · 26/12/2014 17:13

BobbyBingoooo, who do you think are killing all those men?

Who do you think are assaulting them?

It's not women.

Men need to do something about male violence for their own protection, let alone women's.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 26/12/2014 17:12

OQOTU

Don't worry, Bobby has a bit of a habit of turning up, stating something as if it's gospel fact not that more men are assaulted than women isn't true, but probably doesn't need to be stated again and again in a discussion like this one and then leaving.

Although, I suspect he'll grace us with his presence again now Xmas Grin

OmnipotentQueenOfTheUniverse · 26/12/2014 16:28

If women aren't going to look out for women around the place then who the fuck is? It's not men you see marching around the world when atrocities happen to women and girls. Look at the marches in India, in Egypt. It was women and girls standing up to try and draw attention to male violence. And yet here we have people saying yeah don't bother with that you need to work for men. Well men can fucking well work for themselves why do women have to do it as well and ignore their own situations.

I feel like giving up sometimes.

OmnipotentQueenOfTheUniverse · 26/12/2014 16:23

People who are POLITICAL often care about lots of groups of people for crying out loud.

Why do you get to accuse me of being a single minded callous bitch? You don't know me FFS.

OmnipotentQueenOfTheUniverse · 26/12/2014 16:22

?

I was responding to someone upthread who implied that women are not at risk of the types of casual street/pub violence that men are.

Who doesn't care about violence against men? This is the charge that is always levelled at feminists. I spent stacks of time recently posting on threads about police violence against black men and pointing out that this is not just a US problem and that the stats of people killed in custody are disgraceful and not a single fucker has ever been found guilty in a court of law. Is that good enough? Do you care enough to want some links to organisations who are working around this?

FFS.

Yeah I'd rather be punched in the face than raped any day of the week (assuming neither assault resulted in permanent physical damage) and I very strongly suspect that most men would choose to be punched by a man than raped by a man as well.

This idea that women don't ever get hit by randoms or fronted up to in the pub is weird though and so I wanted to challenge this idea that it's some kind of payoff where women get this sort of violence and that sort of violence but at least they don't get non sexual related street / pub type violence and that's just not true at all is it.

LightningOnlyStrikesOnce · 26/12/2014 12:35

OmnipotentQueen (love it, btw) I think we're on the same side basically. I've also experienced non-sexual violence, in fact as I said sometimes it has seemed preferable! The point is that women can get all the crap that men get (all right perhaps slightly less on average, but the same thing) and then the specific sexual attacks as well. I disagree that they're the same thing though. I know what kind of fight I'd rather be in.

BreakingDad77 · 26/12/2014 08:39

So dapper laughs is back, walls of female support, more like why both genders don't care.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 25/12/2014 23:27

Why don't Klaxons care?

Sollers · 25/12/2014 23:25

Why don't white people care?
Why don't straight people care?
Why don't able-bodied people care?

OmnipotentQueenOfTheUniverse · 25/12/2014 22:42

Lol @ majority of women being unaffected by "equality issues".

You would be hard pressed to find many women who haven't been on the wrong end of a grope, aggressive proposition etc etc it doesn't have to be rape before it's "over the line". And the fact is that most women don't feel they can do anything about it and so ignore it and wish it wouldn't happen.

Men on building sites rarely whistle at women any more, for example. Women and girls didn't like it, enough complaints were made to the industry over the years that they decided to try to stamp it out. And it is much less prevalent than it was. So, win, I think.

This idea that most women in the UK have never been adversely affected by some kind of sexist (usually sexually motivated) poor, unwanted & often illegal behaviour from a man is ridiculous and why on earth would anyone even try to claim it!

vestandknickers · 25/12/2014 22:33

My husband isn't at all interested in football, video games or Lord of the Rings, but would certainly be most concerned about violence against men or women.

Not sure what your point is OP.

OmnipotentQueenOfTheUniverse · 25/12/2014 22:27

And the nonsensical post of the day award goes to.... ...........

FloraFox · 25/12/2014 22:18

Has a klaxon gone off somewhere? If this is due to schools being out, there is clearly a need for more teaching and fewer holidays.

MoreBeta · 25/12/2014 18:33

The truth is there is little that men can do. They (in general) love their wives, don't beat their wives, believe in equality but beyond that feel there is little they can actively do.

The truth is the majority of women also largely feel they are unaffected by equality issues and have never been raped or beaten by a man.

The majority of men and women therefore just are not aware of the issues and have more pressing issues to deal with - its much like famine, the global slave trade, melting of the ice caps, extinction of species. Its all too much to deal with.

Irvine360 · 25/12/2014 18:16

Men care alot about alot of stuff me being a man but women in the west have turned them selves into there own victim minority the second you disagree on a small point your painted into a corner and ganged up on. So if u want real equality give some one a chance to speak and explain them selves also alot of the lonelyness women suffer or getting cheated on its there fault for putting money and financial security over equil footing in a relationship and not willing to ever say there wrong even when there right ,men do it all the time with women. So if u want mr. Right there are plenty of them stop narrowing your choices and learn some thing from non western feminist free women its not about money it's about quility of the person and are sexually attracted to him because a rich man can replace you at the drop of a hat and he can probly get away with beating you to because another you is easy to find sorry these are the facts and they get worse sorry but most common men don't give a fuck about someone who you told them I told u so.
