IIRC Peter was also partial to a bit of meat, and had a vision about being allowed to eat all kinds of meat, even creeping meat, so I'm having a bit of a belief problem when it comes to assertions that Jesus was vegetarian. I think they might need to have a leetle think about it all, no?

Zazzles007 · 06/12/2014 22:44

Wow, how come I never got that "Jesus was a vegetarian" lesson in the religious school I went to? Right, off to email those in charge at these school(s) about their incorrect religion lessons, and how PETA could help them there. Grin

TeWiSavesTheDay · 06/12/2014 18:48

Grin I bet he was really popular at surprise dinner parties "Oh, it's okay - I know he says he's a vegetarian but I've caught him eating fish loads of times!"

PuffinsAreFictitious · 06/12/2014 18:44

Jesus was a vegetarian? One of those vegetarians who eats fish then!

Grin

I googled and there is a site called petakillsanimals which is pretty comprehensive on their dodgy ethics. Interestingly although it mentions the horrible concentration camp poster (apparently peta claims Jesus was a vegetarian) and advertising targeted at children it didn't have anything to say about the misogynistic tone.
so possibly this falls under 'sexism people don't notice straight away'

KeatsiePie · 06/12/2014 06:09

I realized that I have the ability to google. Was thinking of Ingrid Newkirk. She is the founder and president.

I just don't know what to do with PETA. I think the laws re: the care and protection of animals are really reprehensible pretty much everywhere. I can see how PETA's shock tactics have worked to bring the issues to the forefront. But is that effective, or still effective, now? Don't ordinary people just dismiss it, even if they're not offended by the sexism, just b/c it's so extreme?

I've also read some terrible stuff alleging that PETA was cruel to animals they'd rescued.

KeatsiePie · 06/12/2014 06:04

But ... have I gone mad or isn't PETA's founder and CEO (or whatever) a woman?! Ingrid Something?

I mean I do realize not all women are feminists but it still seems startling!

I want Argentinian steakhouse steak. Blue. Cooked on a hot stone and brought to me mit pommes.

OfficerKaren · 05/12/2014 23:40

Saw a football club had said advert was being removed from outside its ground and PETA were reported as saying those objecting to this campaign were "reactionary".

jasper · 05/12/2014 23:32

queenstromba Grin

QueenStromba · 05/12/2014 16:34

I also fancy a nice rare steak now jasper. Must ask DP if he fancies a trip to the Argentinian steak house around the corner that does a nice 24 oz steak sampler. Maybe some sweetbreads to start.

jasper · 05/12/2014 12:03

steak for tea tonight

munkysea · 05/12/2014 08:54

Another vegetarian here. PETA make me want to chain-eat steaks just to stick it in their eye.

Zazzles007 · 05/12/2014 06:57

"head orifice" would have been a rather apt typo for PETA, I should think Xmas Grin.

RufusTheReindeer · 04/12/2014 23:49

Vegetarian since I was 9

But I do feel the urge to eat a steak and wear a fur coat while sat outside PETA head office

Accidentally typed orifice.....phew!!! Thank goodness I managed to change it

YonicScrewdriver · 04/12/2014 23:24

PETA have cow pats for brains, they really do.

Anonnynonny · 04/12/2014 21:10

They have total contempt for women.

Women have been complaining about this shit for years.

And they know about it and they keep doing it.

They are laughing at us and shitting on us.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 04/12/2014 20:08

The sexy nurse thing was really what made me never want to see anything PITA hur hur print again. And I say this as a mostly vegetarian tree hugger.

Zazzles007 · 04/12/2014 20:03

OK so while they are 'trying' to push animal rights, they have shown themselves to be real fucking sexist pigs on many occasions. Well done PETA Hmm.

LineRunner · 04/12/2014 19:58

I thought there might be some patriarchal planet-depleting narrative embedded in there somewhere, but then I saw the sexy nurse tits photo.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 04/12/2014 19:58

They are vile and if they convert more people than they turn off vegetarian/veganism I'd be shocked.

ParisWhenItSizzles · 04/12/2014 19:58

I know. I'm a lapsed vegetarian, trying to get back to it (hard as DH loves his meat) but PETA massively worry me. Yes, animal welfare is important, but not at the expense of all other considerations, which is what their agenda seems to be.

That pregnant model looked damned cold.

LiDLrichardsPistachioSack · 04/12/2014 19:54

I'm a bleeding heart vegan and they fucking piss me off.

LineRunner · 04/12/2014 19:52

Bloody hell.
